ABOUT THE SHELTER: The California City Animal Shelter is located in California City, CA. Although located in Kern County, it is not a County facility, rather it is a City Shelter. Those two people are responsible for all of the animal care, the office work as well as any animal control calls across our over 200 sq
. mile city, so your patience with us is greatly appreciated. The shelter consists of 18 dog kennels and 20 cat cages. We do our best to get as many adopted and rescued as possible, but we need help getting our animals seen. If you are an adopter or a rescue who is interested in adopting or rescuing, or you need information, please try to refrain from calling the shelter. Please send a private message to this page, both are watched and responded to regularly but we can not always hear our phones and may not be able to get back to you as quickly. RESCUE: If you are a 501c3 and are interested in rescuing a dog or cat, we require your EIN, the name and contact information of your rescue/person responsible, and the name and contact information of whoever is picking up the animal(s) for you as well as what date/time said pick up is to occur. Rescues are welcomed but we can not hold animals, rescue is first come first serve as this is a small shelter and our ability to hold animals is limited. Because we do not have a veterinarian working with us at this time, we can not offer any vetting and therefore there are no pull fees for rescues. We do not have "rescue partners" or "pullers" and there is no list you need to get on to rescue from our shelter. We welcome rescues, but we ask that rescues come between the hours of 8-12. If that is not possible for the rescue, then we prefer Friday-Sunday for later rescues. While we realize this is not always possible and do work with rescues, we just ask that every effort be made to keep those hours only because our staff is only one person any given day and afternoons are designated for animal control needs. Thank you for your understanding.
