Did you know?

In a study conducted by Canine Cottages, four different pups were fitted with special heart rate monitoring collars.

Heart rates were monitored over the course of seven days and revealed the following:

-When dogs were told "I love you" by their owners, their heart rates skyrocketed 46 percent, going from the average 67 bpm all the way up to 98 bpm.
-The dogs' heart rates decreased by 23 percent, basically from 67 bpm to 52 bpm, when they were being cuddled by their owners.
-Owners heart rates increased 10.4 percent when they saw their dogs after being away from them for a while.

Magawa, a landmine detection rat, retired in 2021 after five years of service. During his career, he helped clear landmines across an area equivalent to 20 football fields. Magawa was trained by the Belgian non-profit APOPO and used his keen sense of smell to detect explosives. He made significant contributions to clearing landmines in Cambodia, saving countless lives. Magawa was awarded a gold medal for his bravery and service.

We are proud to partner with St. Mary's County Animal Services to offer free obedience training to some of their residents through our Foster Free program! Hulk is currently taking our Basic Obedience class and he is quite the fella! He's smart, super playful, and just look at those eyes!!!! We offer Rapid Results classes to help with some of the most pressing behaviors. We also offer holistic support with massage and reiki classes. Our trainers are CPDT-KA certified or are on their way to achieve certification. Donna Poudrier is a certified trainer and animal behaviorist focusing on canine, feline, equine and avian. Behavior evaluation and modification is done in your home where your animal is given an initial evaluation and then a personalized behavior plan.
