Aureole Ranch Horse Rescue

Aureole Ranch Horse Rescue We are a 501c3 non profit organization that focuses on the rescue and rehabilitation of at risk horses.

We are a small, private rescue located in Napa Valley, CA that hopes to raise awareness of horse welfare. Among our passions, is to fight the new proposals of America's horses being slaughtered in the US for human consumption over seas. Most Americans have no idea that horses are still slaughtered...and when they find our that the horse's meat is sent to Europe for human consumption, they are sh

ocked. Educating the public and gaining awareness is key in the volatile and on going battles against proposed slaughter houses. Aureole Ranch will work with individuals as well as other organizations to help where and whenever possible.

With immense gratitude to Amy, my trusted friend, we accomplished the remarkable feat of delivering all three horses and one mule to their new foster home in Grass Valley, a staggering 300 plus mile drive round trip.

A speacial thank you to Flo & Jacob for opening up their hearts, home and pasture to foster our beloved equines of Aureole Ranch Horse Rescue.

Tonight as I return home, I’m exhausted but I’m grateful to have support for our little rescue, both near and far. ♥️🐴

Aureole Ranch Horse Rescue is loosing a longtime pasture in Calistoga. We are in need of local pasture or paddocks . We have
3 horses and one mule and ideally we would love to keep them all together.
We would consider adoption to the right person/home however we are not looking to have the horses purchased to resell/ rehome. All of our animals come with an adoption contract.

We have one rideable horse but she is a standardbred x-racer and would require retraining to take a saddle.
Two of the horses are very bonded and we hope they can stay together.

If you have any leads, pasture to rent etc , please message me. We have until December to figure all of this out😞

Holy snikey it’s been hot… 100 plus degrees all week. My car was registering 108° right before the ponies got a spray off. They are growing their winter coats so this is particularly brutal for them.

The Chinook helicopters are making their way over to the in Healdsburg. They came over our Calistoga pasture.
This is a scary fire as we have significant winds. 🥺

A beautiful evening and Dinner time at our Saint Helena property! Our Pasture was finally drying out, however, we’ve had a good bout of rain which set us back a little bit. Hoping for blue skies this week!

I section off portions of our Calistoga-based Pasture to let grass grow. I opened it up last night for some chow time!

If you’re happy, and you know it, clap your hands… Or maybe your hooves lol

This is a bit delayed thanks to the crazy weather of the past week… but We’ve received such an INCREDIBLE gift. A donation from Erin King, owner of , in the form of a 2 stall barn. It will take us a little while to get this unit up and useable but we’re beyond grateful for this donation ♥️ Erin is compassionate about all equines, and we’re so thankful for her tremendous donation.

Also a shout out to for their tremendous effort and time to help our rescue pick up this VERY HEAVY set of panels. … and all while it was raining. It’s such a gift to have our local community helping us.

The words ‘Thank you’ aren’t even close to appropriate for all that’s been done for us.

Just a little update about our current weather and how we’re dealing with it in Calistoga. Rain is never fun but these storms with 40 mile an hour gusts and 2+ inches of rain pushes our limits.

I’ve been delaying this post for a week now…

As I know that he was loved by so many this post is particularly hard. It is with tremendous difficulty and a shattered heart that I let our supporters know that we lost Merlin ,our mule. This has been a very personal loss for me and I just needed some time to grieve.

My husband found Merlin down when he went to feed in the morning. It was cold & raining. His body temperature was very low with a faint heart rate. We tried for several hours to get him to his feet, but he wouldn’t even try even with a shot of steroids to jumpstart his body. This loss has left me completely shattered. We aren’t really sure what happened. Our vet suspected maybe a heart issue.

We saved Merlin from the Sunnyside feedlot in Washington state. Originally posted by a horse Angel , Sabrina, I immediately knew that we needed to help him. He was emancipated and had lice. He looked so incredibly sad.

With the help of many supporters, we were able to pay for his bail and transportation down to California. I picked him up on a hot summer July day, and got him back to Calistoga where his care would begin.

I had no idea how special he was but it did not take long to figure it out. Even though he had been starved, he loved humans and scratches so much that he would walk away from his food. He would welcome visitors with his silly bray and demanded scratches from anyone near.

Going to the barn to feed and care for the other animals has been so difficult knowing that I’ll never hear his welcoming he-haw or get to give him his belly scratches ever again. This loss has left a deep hole in my heart. 💔🥺. Merlin will be greatly missed by all who knew him from near and far.

If you would like to donate toward his vet, bill and final resting place, we would be grateful
