She is unable to stand unassisted and is in pain. 😢 Despite it all, she has been very handleable and sweet with staff! She urgently needs a foster or adopter through a rescue to help her make it out alive!! Do you have room in your heart and home for this girl?! 💥 NATIONAL HAIRBALL AWARENESS DAY 2024!!💥
National Hairball Awareness Day is a key date for any animal lover, but particularly cat owners. Since the evolution of the very first cats over 6 million years ago, our feline friends have been coughing up hairballs as part of their natural grooming process.
A hairball is a small collection of hair that collects in the cat’s stomach. When cats groom themselves, the barbs on their tongues catch loose or dead hair, which they swallow. Much of this hair passes straight through them and out the other end but if some of it gets lodged in the stomach, the cat will vomit it out to remove it from their system.
Wild cats roamed the lands passing hairballs wherever they pleased until around 7500 B.C. when people in the Near East began domesticating them as pets by bringing them into their homes, feeding them, and caring for them. Cats no longer needed to expend energy hunting for food, and instead could live in luxury with their every need considered.
In the ancient Egyptian era, around 4,000 years later, cats grew in popularity thanks to the Egyptian’s belief in their god-like qualities. Cats were highly revered and treated with great respect, much like the way we treat our feline pets today. Now, 95 million cats are owned in the U.S. alone. As a result, National Hairball Awareness Day was started in 2006 by the National Museum of Health and Medicine, to remind cat owners to pay attention to their cats’ health and keep them well cared for.

We were thrilled with the thought of getting to stay with not 1...not 2... NOT 3.... but 4 Bouvier des Flandres this weekend, we couldn't contain our excitement!!
Rosie, Max, Brooks, and Gordon were all so marvelous and kept our VetTech sitter, Shelby Pennington , on her toes this weekend. With the big ole bear hugs, the avalanche of bodies in the bed, and the romping of the rhinos, 😂 Shelby is ready for another visit and has fallen madly in love with each and everyone of our new big fluffs!!
The Bouvier des Flandres is a herding dog breed originating in Flanders, Belgium!! They were originally used for general farm work including cattle droving, sheep herding, and cart pulling, and nowadays as guard dogs and police dogs, as well as being kept as pets!!

Training your dog🐾 as a family👨👩👦 can be a positive experience for your pet!!
Here at MMA PetCare & Dog Training we offer tips for family dog training to give your pup a high chance of success with everyone in the household!
Although there is some truth to the statement “too many cooks in the kitchen,” it doesn’t always apply to dog training! Families – households with more than one human - can successfully train their dogs together and help their dogs maintain those desired behaviors. Here are a few ways to ensure everyone in your family is creating a positive training experience for your dog!
One important concept is properly handling and touching the dog. All family members should learn to gently and respectfully handle and interact with your dog. In addition, adult family members should always supervise the kid’s interactions and training sessions.
Take Turns Working with the Dog
Your dog notices who supplies all the good resources, such as walks, hikes, food, treats, playtime, and snuggling. Naturally, your dog will bond the most with the family members who spend the most time with them! To help ensure everyone has a special connection and that the dog learns to work with and listen to all family members, have everyone take part in their care. Vary who exercises, trains, feeds, gives water to, plays with, and cuddles your pup!
Create a Cue Sheet
A cue sheet lists all the skills and corresponding verbal and body language cues that request a behavior from the family dog. For example, the word “sit” with the gesture of the right hand moving toward the bicep is used to request that a dog place their backside on the ground. This cue sheet will help family members be consistent with the dog. When your dog receives consistent information, they will learn faster!
