A lifelong dog lover, she has worked as a dog trainer for private training companies, Parks and Recreation departments and a big box pet supply chain prior to launching her own business, Dog Genie in 2003. Dog Genie is a training company specializing in teaching people how to successfully use positive communication techniques with their dogs for a lifetime of happiness and understanding. Genie teaches all kinds of fun, positive and effective ways to train and communicate with dogs including: group classes, private lessons, consultations, puppy classes, nose work, tricks and more. Genie’s background is in Corporate Communications, Public Relations, Marketing Operations, Fundraising and Event Planning. She is also a blogger for the world renowned positive dog training website established by Dr. Ian Dunbar, Dog Star Daily (www.dogstardaily.com). Genie is also the first Certified Dognition Evaluator in California joining Dr. Brian Hare’s team of citizen researchers at Duke University. In an effort to teach and support others with positive dog training techniques, Genie is a mentor trainer for the Animal Behavior and Training Associates. Genie has been a greyhound owner since 1993 and served on the Board of Directors for Homestretch Greyhound Rescue & Adoption, an official 501(c)(3) charity located in Fillmore, California where she served as the Director of Media Relations and Training.

Spending time on cooperative care today💜 Both of my former shelter dogs are not fans of nail trims so pairing the experience (sub threshold) with cheese cubes and homemade sourdough bread bits for the win! The dogs are free to leave at any time - they are experiencing choice and agency as they learn to have trust in this process.

My NEW perspective is that if a PDS (Particularly Dangerous Situation) is forecast in my area - even in the absence of an actual fire - I gather and stage what I would bring for my animals and my family and hopefully it won’t be needed. Clear thinking at “Go Time” is a stretch. Good tips here especially regarding securing your most skittish/fearful animal first as well as timed practice runs. Be kind to one another 💙
