A few exciting projects have been completed this week. Our driveway is finally fixed, no more potholes!

Also, I scraped paddock 1 and filled in the shelter and next to the auto waterer. So much better!

First ride on Zaz! I don’t know if she’s been ridden since retiring from racing, so I’ve been taking my time with her. I kept this ride short and sweet, I was on her for about 4 minutes. I believe all first rides when starting a horse should be this way to ensure they have a positive experience. Zaz did everything I asked of her and definitely exceeded my expectations. She’s so sensitive and was already moving/stopping off my leg/seat! I’m so excited for her future!

Appreciation post for Cooper! He’s had some health issues the past month or so and is finally feeling better! I’m so thankful that he’s better and fingers crossed he stays that way. He is such a special boy🥰

Zaz walked into the barn for the first time this morning like she had been in here a thousand times before. I’m sooo happy with how she did. I was able to get her groomed and hooves picked while she stood there without being tied up. She’s going to be a hard one to sell❤️

Welcome to the BEC family, Zaz! She’s a 14yo OTTB. I’m planning on training her and then finding her a new home. She’s such a sweet girl and I’m very excited to start working with her!

Last night we put our sweetest boy, Jericho, to sleep. The worst part of horse ownership is having to say ‘goodbye’. He was such a good boy and he had the most gentle, pure soul. I’m going to miss you so much sweet boy💔

Spring grazing in northern climates should be introduced slowly and delayed until grasses reach 6 to 8 inches to optimize both the health of the horse and pasture. Calendar date is not important as weather conditions and grass growth can vary greatly from year to year. When pastures reach 6 to 8 inches, begin grazing for 15 minutes, increasing the grazing time each day by 15 minutes until 5 hours of consecutive grazing is reached. After that, unrestricted or continuous grazing can resume.

We also recommend feeding horses their normal hay diet before turning them out to pasture during the first several grazing events of the year. This strategy should help avoid rapid intake of pasture grasses. Even though hay and pasture are both forms of forages, there are significant differences. A gradual change from one feedstuff to another provides enough time for the microbial populations to adjust, reducing the chance of colic and laminitis.

The most perfect boys❤️

For those that don’t know these guys here’s some info about them😊

On the left is Sebastian. He’s a 16h 2004 Thoroughbred. He was my first horse that I got when I was a teenager!! He’s my heart horse for sure. We used to show every summer but as we started going up the levels, he broke his elbow in a freak accident. He’s fully healed and recovered now but mentally he doesn’t want to show anymore. So he enjoys his days by hanging out, bossing around his herd, and eating all the hay and treats he could ever want❤️

In the middle is Reid. He’s a 16.3h 2013 Selle Francais. I’ve had him for 3.5 years now! His sire was a Grand Prix show jumper so Reid has the bloodlines to do some big things! He was completely green when I got him so the past few years I’ve been training him. My plan is to start showing him this year and see how far we can go. He is such a special horse💜

On the right is Chief. He’s a 15.3h 1993(30 years old!) Tennessee Walker. He’s my mom’s retired trail horse. He’s her heart horse!! He’s such a sweet and special old guy. He gets private turnout overnight with as much loose hay as he wants, as well as a big senior feed/alfalfa pellet mash 3 times a day; he wouldn’t have it any other way. The old guy gets whatever he wants💙
