Good morning everyone! 🌞 I just wanted to thank you all so very much for the years of support and being that we are not actively doing intake, wanted to encourage you to change your Amazon Smile charity to an organization that is busy in the community and could really use this support right now! We love Compassion For Cats of Delaware and Senior Dog Haven & Hospice, Inc. and the amazing work they do! Welcome to our STAR Puppy Class! This is a 6 week course to go over the basics of dog ownership, obedience, and socialization. This class is fantastic for puppies up to 1 year of age!

When: September 27th
October 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th
November 1st @ 6pm Test Day!

We are in a heat advisory today so it will be very hot for visits and walks, but we will be taking extra precautions to keep the pups safe! 🐶You probably know that asphalt gets hot on warm days, but it’s not the only surface that can burn paw pads badly! 🔥
Feel the ground on warm days to make sure it’s not too hot, and if you must walk your dog on a hot surface, protect paws with booties to prevent burns! 🐾
What other walking surfaces have you noticed get too hot in summer?

Max giving his foster mama some snuggles before being handed off to his forever mama. Our precious Yorkie boy who came to us with excruciatingly injured eyes, circling and snapping at anything that came near him, after a member from the spca reached out to us for help, as he needed more love, patience, and tlc than you’re average surrender.. has been adopted! 💙 We are so grateful to his foster family for taking such amazing care of him through all of his transitions, from the patience of learning trust to the major surgery recovery from having his eyes removed. We are also grateful to have a second time Encore adopter who will spoil him until eternity. Welcome home, Max!

Who is getting ready for the 4th of July? Our girl Sophie is! Sophie is our sweet and adorable old girl (around 10) who has some rickety bones and joints in her back end but with a joint supplement and a pain med she gets around just fine! Sophie is also on a thyroid medication and has been thriving since she joined Encore!

Despite her medical needs she is sweet as can be and would be a great addition to any household.💘She does not appear to be in any pain. Sophie is available for adoption with the understanding that she is on thyroid medication, a pain med to make sure she’s comfy, and a joint supplement. Cape Pharmacy is graciously donating one year of thyroid medication to Sophie’s adopters as well! An adoption application can be filled out at encoreanimalrescue.org if you think you would be a great match for this beautiful soulful girl for her golden years.

Ruckus, (now Pippi), our girl with the special leg, is elated to announce that she has been adopted by one of our very, very special and cherished foster families and boy has she has hit the jackpot! (And we’re pretty sure she knows it! ;)) Enjoy your encore, sweet girl! 💕 Here is what her Mama has to say about her joining their family!

“We’ve been looking for a “Redding dog” for a while now.. A “Redding dog”, is a white female (like Delilah), but small (for carrying) and she had to have special needs, be disabled, or deformed (something that he felt people overlook dogs in rescue for), but not hospice. Well, in October, we transported a dog from the shelter in Philly, who met all his criteria, but she was adopted. After several turns for her over the last 7 months, she found her way back to him.. when the timing was just right for everyone. So, meet Pippi! (Like Pippi Longstocking.. her legs never matched either). We have one happy boy & pup!” 💕

The update you’ve all been waiting for.. Our sweet Max made out phenomenally with surgery. He had no complications, was able to have a much needed dental done, extracting 6 teeth and the others are now in good shape. They were also able to recheck Max’s bloodwork from last time and he’s looking great!! Our around 10 year old boy will soon be good as new, just on his medication to prevent further heart disease. We can all exhale and we are so grateful for our friends over at Forrest Avenue that take such good care of our special babies. 💙

Please keep our blind little Max in your thoughts today as he has surgery to remove his eyes. These poor eyes of his have likely caused him issues long before coming to Encore and he will finally have some relief and not need constant medication applied. The medications did their job as far as fixing his ulcers but they’re still uncomfortable for him causing him to rub them and cause trauma so we’ve decided this is the best route for him and know it will improve his quality of life. 💙
