Our Mission:
Underhound Railroad was formed in 2009 by a group of friends, with the goal of rescuing innocent dogs from death row in Connecticut shelters.

Underhound Railroad is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) EIN: 47-1531047 volunteer-based animal welfare organization dedicated to rescuing homeless, abused and neglected dogs. Underhound Railroad has now grown to include rescue communities in Maine, Connecticut, Rhode Island, North Carolina, South Carolina and Utah. With our focus on rural areas where shelters are overflowing with abandoned dogs waiting to fi

nd rescue, our network of Underhound volunteers work hard to prevent undeserved deaths, see that medical, emotional and behavioral needs are tended to, and transportation as well as a loving foster family are provided to the pups on their journey to finding their forever homes!

Underhound Railroad has kicked off the new year! We have welcomed some incredible new rescues into our care and are excited to introduce them to you! 💖 Boomer and Birdie, an adorable brother and sister duo, are settling in. Ellie, a sweet lab mix, is already winning hearts with her lovable personality. And then there are our five newest little artists, the Masterpiece Pups!

💖Just look at that sweet face peeking over the couch. How has no one scooped up this bundle of love yet? 😲 Minnie is a 5 month old mixed breed dog with a tan coat, a charming white mark above her nose, and a unique bobbed tail that adds to her cuteness. She’s playful, snuggly, and adores cozy naps with her favorite people or doggie pals. Minnie gets along wonderfully with other dogs and has even done well with a cat during a sleepover. She’s truly the total package! ⭐

Ronnie came to us on October 6, 2022, after being rescued alongside three other dogs from a tough situation where they weren’t treated with the love they deserved. While his three friends have already found their furever homes, Ronnie is still waiting for his turn.

This sweet boy has been through so much, but he hasn’t let it dim his loving spirit. Ronnie is ready to leave his past behind and start fresh with a family who will cherish him.

Meet Patti Mayonnaise, the ultimate snuggle queen! This sweet pocket pittie, just about a year old, is overflowing with love. At only 35 pounds, she's much smaller than you might expect but her heart is absolutely gigantic. 💗 Patti adores kids, gets along great with other dogs and has recently been introduced to a cat and she did wonderfully! 🐱 Patti is all about cuddles with her people, and she doesn’t mind rocking some stylish doggie clothes (thank you Pittie Clothing Company and everyone who participated in our BOGO Fundraiser). On March 8, 2022, Tinkerbell came to us after being found as a stray. She gave birth under a shed, trying to keep her newborn puppies safe and warm. 💔 Cold, wet, she didn’t have to wait long for help. One of our fosters and her friend stepped in and scooped up the whole family, giving them a chance at a better life.

Now nearly 3 years later, Tinkerbell is still waiting for her furever home. She’s spunky, sweet, and so deserving of a family to call her own. 🏡

💖 We’ve already reached our fundraiser goal to help Tinkerbell, Ronnie, and Bruno with their adoption fees, but we still want to share Tinkerbell’s story and give her the extra attention she deserves.

Meet Minnie, an adorable 5 month old puppy with a gorgeous tan coat and a charming little white mark right above her nose! Bruno’s story is one you won’t forget. Back on May 4, 2022 he was found abandoned on the side of the road with just a shower curtain as a blanket and some water. 💔 Thankfully, a kind person stepped in, kept him safe and made sure he found a rescue to take care of him. Over 2.5 years later, Bruno is still waiting for his furever home. He is a sweet and playful boy with so much love to give. To help Bruno and other long timers like him, we started a fundraiser to reduce their adoption fees. Our goal is to raise $450 to make it easier for families to say “yes” to giving dogs like Bruno the homes they’ve been waiting for.

Marigold found her way back to Underhound Railroad and into the arms of her foster family. They made it official, and Marigold is now our first adoption of 2025! 🎉 She’s living her best life, sharing cozy snuggles and a bed with her sister Marley, who was also adopted from Underhound Railroad. To make things even sweeter, Marigold has her very own little girl who absolutely adores her. Marigold now goes by Mari. Happy tails! ❤️🏠

Two adorable older puppies, a boy and a girl, who desperately need foster homes. They were found shivering near a storage area, but despite everything they’ve been through, they’re incredibly sweet and loving. They’re not bonded, so they can be fostered separately, and they’ve already shown they do well with other dogs and even cats! 🐾

We’re looking for fosters in the Triangle area of North Carolina or Maine. If you’ve ever thought about fostering, now is the perfect time to step up! All supplies and support are provided. You just need to give them a safe place to land and a little love. ❤️

This lovable goofball made the journey from North Carolina to New York and has found his home with amazing repeat adopters. 💕 Chief has fully embraced his new life, where he’s all about lounging in style. ❄️ Brook the snow angel is ready for her furever family! She’s great with other dogs, loves everyone she meets and is fully potty trained. This 13 month old gem adores snuggles and giving hugs too. She’s super food motivated, eager to please, and loves nosework! Despite being found as a stray with a broken leg, Brook doesn’t let anything slow her down. She has been medically cleared for all activities. Her southern roots haven’t held her back from loving the snow—even at -3°F, she’s ready to play! ⛄

Meet Baby Bell! This sweet girl was found as a stray in North Carolina and brought to the local animal shelter. Her "before" picture breaks our hearts with her being so uncertain. But just look at her now! That HUGE smile says it all. 😁

💔 Foster Needed for Nellie and Her Puppies! 💕

Nellie has been stuck at a rural shelter in NC since early October. She came in pregnant and gave birth to 5 sweet puppies, who are now growing up in the shelter. This little family deserves so much more than that!

We’re looking for a foster in or near the Triangle area of North Carolina who can welcome Nellie and her babies into their home. 🏡 All supplies will be provided, you just provide the love and a safe space for them to thrive.
