Our Mission:
Underhound Railroad was formed in 2009 by a group of friends, with the goal of rescuing innocent dogs from death row in Connecticut shelters.

Underhound Railroad is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) EIN: 47-1531047 volunteer-based animal welfare organization dedicated to rescuing homeless, abused and neglected dogs. Underhound Railroad has now grown to include rescue communities in Maine, Connecticut, Rhode Island, North Carolina, South Carolina and Utah. With our focus on rural areas where shelters are overflowing with abandoned dogs waiting to fi

nd rescue, our network of Underhound volunteers work hard to prevent undeserved deaths, see that medical, emotional and behavioral needs are tended to, and transportation as well as a loving foster family are provided to the pups on their journey to finding their forever homes!

Boomer needs your help. 🚨 This sweet 8 month old boy has been dealing with a recurring lump on his head. After X-rays at his primary vet, he’s now been referred to a neurologist at Carolina Vet Specialist in Winston. His specialty exam is scheduled for mid-February, and we’re raising funds to cover his past and upcoming medical care. 🩺 Boomer is the happiest boy who loves adventures and playing with his foster siblings. Let’s help him get the answers and care he needs! ❤️

Lillian has found her furever family! Her family says she is settling in beautifully, and they are seeing more of her sweet and smart personality every day. They are so grateful to have her in their lives and we couldn’t be happier for them! Happy tails Lillian! 🏠❤️

Meet Birdie, a 8 month old mixed breed sweetheart with a heart full of love! Rescued alongside her brother while shivering in the cold, Birdie has blossomed into a playful, affectionate companion. She adores romping around with her foster dog siblings and is perfectly happy sharing her space with cats. 🐈 Birdie loves to play tag and has a blast running around with her friends. She’s full of energy and loves being part of the fun! ⭐ Birdie also has a gentle side and is a big fan of cuddling and getting belly rubs. She’s super affectionate and loves spending time with her humans. When out on walks, she does great on a leash, enjoying the chance to meet new dogs and people along the way. Birdie would thrive in a home with at least one other dog to keep her company and share in her playful spirit. After 3 years, 7 months, and 14 days, Chyanne has finally found her furever home! Originally rescued in South Carolina with her puppies, this sweet girl has waited so patiently for her perfect match. Now she is living her best life in Maine! Chyanne adores her doggie siblings and is in absolute heaven with all the stuffed animals she gets to play with. From rescue to furever, her journey was long but every step led her right where she was meant to be. Happy tails, Chyanne! You’re home at last. ❤️🏡

💖Just look at that sweet face peeking over the couch. How has no one scooped up this bundle of love yet? 😲 Minnie is a 5 month old mixed breed dog with a tan coat, a charming white mark above her nose, and a unique bobbed tail that adds to her cuteness. She’s playful, snuggly, and adores cozy naps with her favorite people or doggie pals. Minnie gets along wonderfully with other dogs and has even done well with a cat during a sleepover. She’s truly the total package! ⭐

Ronnie came to us on October 6, 2022, after being rescued alongside three other dogs from a tough situation where they weren’t treated with the love they deserved. While his three friends have already found their furever homes, Ronnie is still waiting for his turn.

This sweet boy has been through so much, but he hasn’t let it dim his loving spirit. Ronnie is ready to leave his past behind and start fresh with a family who will cherish him.

Meet Patti Mayonnaise, the ultimate snuggle queen! This sweet pocket pittie, just about a year old, is overflowing with love. At only 35 pounds, she's much smaller than you might expect but her heart is absolutely gigantic. 💗 Patti adores kids, gets along great with other dogs and has recently been introduced to a cat and she did wonderfully! 🐱 Patti is all about cuddles with her people, and she doesn’t mind rocking some stylish doggie clothes (thank you Pittie Clothing Company and everyone who participated in our BOGO Fundraiser). On March 8, 2022, Tinkerbell came to us after being found as a stray. She gave birth under a shed, trying to keep her newborn puppies safe and warm. 💔 Cold, wet, she didn’t have to wait long for help. One of our fosters and her friend stepped in and scooped up the whole family, giving them a chance at a better life.

Now nearly 3 years later, Tinkerbell is still waiting for her furever home. She’s spunky, sweet, and so deserving of a family to call her own. 🏡

💖 We’ve already reached our fundraiser goal to help Tinkerbell, Ronnie, and Bruno with their adoption fees, but we still want to share Tinkerbell’s story and give her the extra attention she deserves.

Bruno’s story is one you won’t forget. Back on May 4, 2022 he was found abandoned on the side of the road with just a shower curtain as a blanket and some water. 💔 Thankfully, a kind person stepped in, kept him safe and made sure he found a rescue to take care of him. Over 2.5 years later, Bruno is still waiting for his furever home. He is a sweet and playful boy with so much love to give. To help Bruno and other long timers like him, we started a fundraiser to reduce their adoption fees. Our goal is to raise $450 to make it easier for families to say “yes” to giving dogs like Bruno the homes they’ve been waiting for.
