*Update*

🐾 Good morning and happy Wednesday🐾

As you all know, it’s been a really rough year for us at Hair of the Dog. First and foremost, thank you to our incredible clients who have been so undertanding and flexible for us 🫶🏼 Kenzie has taken on a HUGE roll and has been doing her best to integrate Becca’s schedule into her already full schedule. We understand that this can be frustrating and inconvenient at times but things are starting to smooth out and Kenzie is now getting a hold of the ropes. Becca’s injury was very unexpected and the path we are walking with it is very unknown and uncertain. We really appreciate everyone patience and kindness as we continue to navigate this new road ❤️
Currently Kenzie is NOT taking on any new clients. She is booking out 2-3 weeks in advance. We highly recommend booking your next appointment at check out.
There are some changes coming up in the next few months which will be discussed in the next couple of weeks so stay tuned!

🎃 Happy October Everyone 🎃
🦇Announcement 🦇

It’s been a while since we’ve done an update. Kenzie has been going crazy carrying both of our schedules as I am not much help to her at this time. It’s been decided by my neurology, physical and occupational therapy doctors that its in my best interest to step away from grooming. Over the next few months Kenzie will be taking over and will be the sole owner of Hair of the Dog. These past 6 months have been anything but easy on Kenz and I. Kenzie is not only working full time daily and carrying 2 schedules, she’s also my full time caretaker at home as well. As of right now we are very backed up on returning messages and we ARE NOT TAKING NEW CLIENTS. Over the next few weeks we will be moving most of my clients to Kenzie’s schedule and she will be taking over grooming your dogs.
We are overwhelmed with everything at this time as we continue this rollercoaster of a healing journey I’m going through. We are so incredibly grateful for everyone’s patience and understanding!

🐾 Happy Monday 🐾 *UPDATE*

I‘d like to both apologize to my clients and potential new clients and thank all of my clients who have ridden out this crazy injury with me. We are way behind on returning messages and will be getting back to everyone starting today! I’m still currently recovering from a traumatic brain injury from a car accident in April. These past few months have been a struggle to say the least. I have a great neurologist and an amazing team of occupational therapists that work with me twice a week every week. I’m moving into my 4th month of recovery. I’d like to take a minute to explain a little of what’s going on and why it is so hard for me to groom as I normally would. I understand it is hard to see that I have a serious injury because on the outside I appear normal and healthy. On the inside, my brain has been injured and is taking longer than the average to heal therefore no matter how I may appear on the outside, I’m uncomfortable in some way that others cannot see visually. A lot of you have seen me and the way my symptoms can change within a couple of hours. The result of the accident is my equilibrium not aligning with my ocular. Due to this I have daily headaches, sound and light sensitivity, balance issues at times, when my eyes and brain get tired but vision will become slightly blurry and I get pain in the left side of my head, on bad days I can also have memory issues as well as taking longer with my speech. When my symptoms start, my neurologist needs me to stop and rest. This is imperative to my healing. This causes delays during the day and it may take me a little longer to complete your dog. All of these make it extremely difficult to complete 1 groom let alone a full schedule. I’ve learned a lot over the past almost 4 months about how my particular injury is affected. I can safely groom but I do have a hard time with difficult dogs due to the motion. At this time I cannot groom difficult dogs, I do apologize. Kenzie is doing her very best to not only keep up with her own schedule, but also mine along with helping cook and clean at home because I’m unable a lot of times to do those simple things by the end of my days. I’m so grateful for the progress I’ve made but I still have a long road of recovery ahead! We are truly doing the best we can at this time.

My deepest apologies to everyone we have not yet gotten back to, we will be diligently working on that early this week starting today. And again, thank you all of my amazing clients who have helped me, supported me and loved me through this entire mess! Words can’t express how thankful I am. It’s not been easy with lots of reschedules, last minute cancellations and my forgetful brain not putting in appointments. With each passing week I’m improving and able to do a little more. While it’s still a little rough, I’m pushing my hardest to get back on top of things and run a regular schedule as you all are used to ❤️

🐾 Happy Friday Everyone 🐾 UPDATE🐾

I am still having a rough recovery and am only returning part time in the mornings from 8-12:30 for the time being. Kenzie’s schedule is running as usual and she’s doing her best to also take on some of mine as her already made schedule allows. I understand it is frustrating to have to reschedule and while most have been VERY understanding, a few of you haven’t been as understanding. I am dealing with a brain injury. My girls and I are doing the very best we can to keep the schedule maneagable for the safety of your dogs. Please understand that it’s just as frustrating to me knowing your pets need to be groomed and I’m physically unable to do that as usual. I am doing the best I can to try to keep up and also heal so I can come back and be 100% as fast as possible.
🐾💕 Now, for those of you that have been more than understanding. Those who have been rescheduled several times and never once complained. Those of you who were willing to break your dog families down into smaller groups for me to groom over several days to lessen the stress on me. Those who offered to reschedule just so I could rest. Those who brought their dogs and had to come pick them up unfinished because I couldn’t finish them that day. Those who have offered to come to my home and help me. You have no idea what that truly means to me. I have received numerous calls, texts and get well soon gifts along with love and understanding of my current condition. The outpouring of support and concern for my health makes me very emotional. Thank you for being the best clients I could ask for. I have a close relationship with my clients and a special bond with each of you on all different levels so most of you know this past year has been a lot on me with my health. Thank you for standing by me and remaining loyal ❤️ It truly means the world to me. I love you all and can’t wait to get back to doing what I love and miss so much every day!

Happy Friday Everyone!

I will be personally returning calls and messages this weekend to get all caught up. While I’m not back fully just yet, as most of you all know I was in an accident and have been suffering from a concussion for a couple weeks now. I’m doing my very best to get back to grooming 100%! Happy Tuesday to our Hair of the Dog family!

We are so sorry for the delay in response and return phone calls.
My mom, Becca, is still in recovery at home from a concussion. She is doing well and is resting as much as she can!
With that being said, We are still taking on new clients! We are taking a little longer than usual to get to the phone☺️🐶
We appreciate all of our lovely clients who have been checking in with Becca during her recovery❤️

I would like to apologize to my clients that I had to reschedule today on short notice due to my horse having to have a second emergency surgery. Last week my horse had an enucleation surgery (eye removal) because she had cancer in her eye. This past week hasn’t been an easy recovery for her and this morning didn’t fail us either. Her freshly sewn up eye was wide open and needed another surgery to close it up. Unfortunately I was in the middle of working on dogs when my vet called and said she was on her way. I understand that it is an inconvenience and I do apologize. This year has not been easy between my health and my animals health. Thank you for being so understanding and caring. I’m offering free grooming for those who had to be rescheduled today. Rose is recovering once again and hopefully won’t need any more surgeries 🥴

As some of you know, I work 2 jobs and I am not open on Saturdays. I do make an exception for this big guy! This is Zeus and unfortunately he can’t have other dogs in the facility when he’s there due to him not enjoying the company of others but fortunately for me, I get one on one time with him! I’ve been grooming him for about 5 or 6 years now since he was a baby 🥰 He is one of my best grooming dogs and is just so sweet to me! I hope you all had a beautful weekend!

Quick Pete update!!
We are coming up on a year since Pete was dropped off on our front porch at Hair of the Dog. Pete is doing really well and we are working out some behavioral issues. He’s still obsessed with a ball and is still just as goofy as ever! He is working on getting over some social issues he struggles with. One day at a time Pete ❤️ Here is Pete watching the horses in the back yard today, it’s one of his favorite spots to lay! He’s so nosy 😆

I’m reposting this for all of our clients who know Tate 🥰 He was one of the little ones we bottle raised last year! His sister, Willow, found an amazing home with friends of the family and is living her best life ❤️ I just thought you all would love a little dose of adorableness on this Friday night ❤️ Tate has enough personality for all of Delaware and is more ornery than he is ever behaved but we love him just as he is! We thank him all the time for keeping our salon free of pests and rodents! His big brother Dominic also helps but most of you will never see him because he’s shy with new people so he snoozes in the back room in his bed 💙

While we can’t always have the salon cats out with the dogs during the day due to some dogs not being good with cats, on the days they can roam freely our dogs appreciate the emotional support on the table 😆 This is Reign and it’s her first day here at Hair of the Dog! She loves the cats and loved having a visitor on her table ❤️ When the cats can’t be out they are safe and sound in our back room out of view of the dogs!

We are a family owned and operated facility ❤️ From the lobby you can see our bathing and grooming area so you can see the grooming process openly with nothing behind closed doors. Our salon offers a kennel free grooming experience for your dogs with the option to have a kennel for those who don’t like to socialize with others. This allows them to play and socialize with others while waiting their turn to be groomed. They also get used to all of the sounds in a grooming salon while playing with their friends so when it’s their turn it’s not so startling. At the same time they’re getting good and worn out for Mom and Dad when they get home, it’s a win win for everyone!
🐶 Hair of the Dog is open Monday through Friday and we are BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. Which means we do not have set hours and don’t accept walk in appointments. We take grooming appointments starting at 8am and no later than 2 unless a later time was previously discussed. While we don’t mind your fur babies staying after their groom is complete to play until the end of the day, keep in mind that the end of our day varies from day to day. We believe in humanity over vanity here at our salon, which means we won’t demat your dog if doesnt brush out. We won’t compromise your pets comfort for a certain look requested. We believe every dog should be treated with love and kindness so we don’t force them to do anything they don’t want to. We gently work them through their fears with patience and time. Not rushing the process only promises a good experience for your dog with us further strengthening the trust between us and your dog. Time and patience is much needed when working with animals, we love when we finally gain that trust and form a bond with them. It makes everything worth it in the end ❤️

Since today is the day to celebrate love, I thought I’d share a picture of our very loved and adored salon mascots, Kaci and Tator Tot, snuggling together. They have a bond like no other. When Tate hears Kaci outside the door when she’s coming in, he RUNS to the front to see her! If he is unable to be out with the dogs that day due to someone not being cat friendly, we will let her in the back room to say hi to her friend. They immediately start loving on each other and playing/wresting with each other. They’re bond is precious ❤️
