My experience in a corporate salon would never allow me to invest this kind of time into the pets I work with & it’s these moments that make ALL the difference!! Trust is so big when handling dogs & without it, things can truly take a turn for the worse. Unfortunately, it wasn’t safe to attempt a groom on Butters. We agreed having a vet do it would be best & in the meantime we’ll focus on building trust & so she can one day get on the grooming table free of all anxiety, fear & stress! I’ve been handling dogs long before I became a pet stylist & I always get the question “how do you do it?” & the answer is very simple! Patience, understanding & compassion.
Dogs feel anxious, nervous & afraid in unfamiliar environments & need understanding. Puppies can be overly excited & need to be taught, just as we teach our human children, which requires great patience! Elderly pets go through medical conditions such as arthritis & cancer and should be gently handled with care & compassion.
Pet stylists are no different from teachers who work with children or nurses who help heal the sick. Passion is the first prerequisite & everyone is not cut out for the job. Be wise in choosing your pets groomer 🐶💕✨
