Took an early morning trip to Madison County Arkansas while it was still in the 70’s for most the trip. Of course it hit 96 degrees heading back, but not a bad trip.

She is a home raised Commercial Heifer conceived and born on our farm on 3-9-2022 out of one our F1 BWF cows. She didn’t take as an embryo recip and got pasture bred to our low birthweight Gardiner Hometown bull back in February. She was just confirmed bred in the 2nd stage yesterday by Ultrasound.

She’s got to be around 1,300 lbs right now.

When you’re heading to the barn at 3:00 a.m. to pull cidr’s, Lut and put Estrotect patches on the heifers you have “locked up” in the barn since the evening before…. And see fresh cow p**p on the gravel driveway. 😬 🤦‍♂️

Then turn on the lights and count all the heifers in the barn, with a gate open. 🙏🙏 Thank you Jesus!

LIFE AND DEATH ON THE FARM

One of the first things you need to think about when deciding to raise livestock is how you feel about death.

What I mean is that you WILL experience death in some capacity, whether it is from animals simply growing old, getting sick at some point, Mother Nature taking them out, or even worse, the “unknown”.

This morning I found my only GAR Fireproof E.T. Bull calf. It appears he went to sleep and simply did not wake up. Once again, here is another “new” experience for me, after raising cattle for 22 years. No explanation whatsoever at this point.

I remember an older farmer once told me, “If death comes knocking, better it take place in the field than in the house”.

Sometimes that’s the only comfort you can find after giving them your all.
