Veterans Anynomous/Suicide Prevention & Awareness
Dear Guest,
After retiring out of the United States Army as an Explosive Ordnance (EOD) Technician I discovered that finding comradely outside of the military is very difficult. Almost so difficult where a person would let defeat beat them and consequently take their own life. Cameron Hills Horse Farm (CHHF) is here to prevent and shed light on the seriousness of su***de through this non-profit organization ran by veterans for veterans. The CHHF family is not just about helping veterans but survivors of our Fallen Heroes. Many veterans have farms and even get relief from Veterans Affairs programs and government grants. This facility is not that, CHHF was built from the ground up by anonymous veterans that dealt with the same struggles throughout years of their service to this country. Finding someone to talk to can be difficult especially if the strain of war left a veteran heavy burden. Military service is tough and strenuous which leads to irrational/impulsive decisions. Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI) and Post Dramatic Stress Disorders (PTSD) are still at an all time high. Veterans and Soldiers exiting out of the military have difficulties finding identity within themselves and get so far away with who they were they seem almost robotic. Family’s get crushed and children suffer from unstable bonds, love/affection and marriages. Becoming an Equestrian is not easy and it demands love, patients, comradely, depression, anxiety, self-doubt, self-pity, heighten moments of accomplishment and euphoria but on a much tangible level. Working with Equine has shown me that these God given precious animals were the very first to carry man over the mountains in the Mesopotamian period. So our four legged friends have seen hardships and relate. A wise man once said, “every time you pull that horse out you are doing some sort of training.” This program allows the veteran to continue training and continue the calling that God has set out for them to carry. Several different animals such as the free range chickens and San Clementis Island goats which also aid in not only the veteran, but survivors and dependents too. The compound stretches 9.98 acres with 24/7 access, and some of the best riding trails for helping the veterans fell like they are, “back to their roots.” Unfortunately with the cost of the Equestrian mission in the United States the government faded out Equestrian activities for armed service members (hence the wild horses paratroopers land on at Ft. Polk). This facility regains the therapeutic horsemanship by allowing veterans to pet, groom, ride and even camp outdoors with the horses. Why would anyone not share this gift from these giants? I recommend texting or calling to schedule a time where you and your family can begin to see the countryside. Watch as your families and confidence grow back during these difficult times.
Very Respectfully,
Adam Wontrop
