On Sunday we hosted Supreme Equine Grooming for a clinic sponsored by the Millbrook Pony Club. Sarah taught some grooming tips, how to clip, and covered mane and tail braiding.

Our students did pretty good for their first clip job and Scotty certainly paid his dues!

Sharing the happiest parts of our summer. Somehow I have no pictures of any shows but some of our summer clinic weeks.

This week has been a whirlwind. Keeping going, has kept me going. We had our last week of summer clinics this week and I am super thankful for the group we had. The adventures, learning, and fun had was much needed for all of us, and boosted the morale of everyone who walked down the barn aisle.

We often say it takes a village in this sport, and that has been at the forefront of my mind. We have received an overwhelming amount of support, check-ins, and people helping source horses. I am so grateful to feel the support of our community. Two of our student’s families created a GoFundMe, to help us fill the raw void in our field as quickly as we can. Thank you to everyone who has shared or contributed to this effort.

We most certainly experience the highest of highs and the lowest of lows with these horses. We spend more time with them than we do our human family more often than not. Hearing my students remember their horses while maintaining their enthusiasm for their next challenge makes my heart smile. Several times I’ve overheard how Jaws, Jet, or Scooter taught them “x” so they’re ready for “y”.

May recap- time really needs to slow down a bit!

We had a busy month, started with a working equitation clinic sponsored by the Millbrook Pony Club!

Next, we had a Horse and Rider Wellness Clinic where we had the very awesome Laura Spilhaus Equine Physio and Hope Ackerly from D2H Wellness join us to talk about keeping our horse’s bodies and ours in tip top shape.

Following that, we welcomed the John Jay and Dutchess BOCES FFA/Animal Science out to the farm and with the help of Dr. Mountan and Sharon Santandra from Rhinebeck Equine, Dr. Erwin and Meghan from Millbrook Equine, and Mackenzie Chauncey - Kent & Blue Seal Feeds taught students about bones, looking at x-ray images, gastric ulcers, dentistry, and the horse’s digestive tract.

It’s no wonder we finished up the month with some peaceful hacks!

Congrats to these ladies on receiving scholarships from the Eastern Hudson Valley Horse Council to further their education and help bring along their horses this year!

What a great opportunity on a local level to support our young riders! It takes a village, and we’ve got a good one.
