This poor kitten was found in one of our Vet Assistant’s backyard! Her eye was bloody, swollen, and inflamed, and she could barely keep it open. 😾👁️

Dr. Lau, our awesome veterinarian who was on-call, examined the kitten and pulled out a foxtail from under her eyelid! The tiny kitten, nicknamed Leela, seems to be feeling much better already, and will be on a course of oral antibiotics and oral pain medicine, as well as some eye ointment. 😸

While this outcome seems extraordinary, this is far from a rare occurrence. This month alone, we’ve had at least 5 separate cases of pets presenting with foxtails embedded in their eyes. 😯

Make sure to stay alert, and if your pet seems to be in any discomfort (in their eyes, nostrils, or really, anywhere), make sure to schedule an appointment with your regular vet. And, of course, be careful when walking your dogs, especially if you’re in drier, grassier areas. Just because you don’t see any foxtails doesn’t mean they aren’t there!

This upcoming Wednesday, June 18, is Veterinary Appreciation Day! It is a day dedicated to recognizing the devoted, hardworking, compassionate veterinary heroes who give their all to improve the lives of animals. 🩺👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️

As the weather gets warmer, and school lets out for the summer, there’s one more monumental event you don’t want to miss… Kitten Season! 😻

Kitten season is the period of time where there’s a huge surge of kitten births and intakes at shelters. In California, we often get this twice a year, and right now, it’s in full swing! This means neighborhood strays and ferals who are not spayed are having litters of kittens, which also leads to the increase in kitten population at our local shelters! 🐈🐈‍⬛😺

One kitten we wanted to shout out is Sunny D. Her mom, Sue, recently adopted her from a local shelter, and brought her in for her first-ever vet visit with Dr. Johnson!

At the visit, Sunny D was enrolled in our Kitten Package! Dr. Johnson came up with a vaccine schedule, and Sunny D got an exam, nail trim, and was sent home with some flea prevention. 🩺👩‍⚕️

Isn’t she adorable? 🤗🥹

We’re back with more Staff Shoutouts! 🥳

You more than likely have seen this familiar face – our shoutout for today is Pia! 🤩😁

Pia is one of our veterinary assistants, but she also is our Social Media & Marketing Manager (and she runs this Instagram page, so she’s posting this herself, hee hee). 🤭

“I grew up without pets, and I think I’ve overcompensated, because currently I live with my FOUR pets (2 cats named Artemis and Athena, and 2 pups named Scampi and Clunk). There’s never a dull moment in my home, which I jokingly refer to as “The Zoo”… and the same can be said about working at RAHC! It’s always a blast.

I started in this field right at the beginning of the pandemic, on a whim, and it was the greatest decision I’ve ever made. I love learning about the science and ethics that go into veterinary medicine, and, of course, I love all the cats and dogs I get to befriend.

When I’m not working, I’m usually either at the beach, playing video games at home, listening to music, or reading a new fiction novel.

I love working at Reed Animal Hospital; my coworkers and the awesome pets make every day a joy!” 😌🩶

Hi everyone, hope you’re having a lovely Sunday! 🤗

We’re just popping on here to let you know that we will be CLOSED tomorrow, Monday the 26th of May, in observance of Memorial Day. We look forward to helping you and your fur babies when we reopen at 8am on Tuesday. 🗓

We also would like to thank those who gave their lives while serving, and we are thinking of those who have lost someone they love. 🇺🇸❤️
