Is your canine protected against Leptospirosis?🦠😷

Leptospirosis, caused by Leptospira bacteria, can cause severe liver and/or kidney disease, can affect various animals (including people!), and can even be fatal!

“Dogs are usually exposed through contact with infected urine or contaminated water or objects” (AAHA.org). Since the disease is spread by wildlife, such as rats, racoons, opossums, and mice, any dog who goes outside, whether on a hike or just in the backyard, is at risk of being exposed. 🦨🦡🐀

Vaccination is highly effective against the main, most common types of leptospirosis. While historically, leptospirosis was considered a non-core vaccine, the AAHA Canine Vaccination Guidelines recently were updated to change the vaccine to core status! 💉💪

Hey everyone!

This is Bubbles, he’s a little over a year old, and around 8 inches long. 🐟

One of our clients received Bubbles as a gift, and learned he can grow upwards of 12 inches. Unfortunately, they already have a few fish, and are now looking for a new home for Bubbles. 🫧🐠

Dr. Johnson and vet assistant Josiah both love meeting new puppies, like Luna here, who came in on Friday for her first ever vet visit! 🩺👩‍⚕️🥼

Luna is a 7-week-old Chihuahua/Australian Shepherd mix, and she was the sweetest, most well-behaved angel for her visit, which included an exam, vaccination, and a nail trim. Her paw-rents signed up for a Puppy Package, which means her next few visits are all covered too!

How could you not love such a tiny pup? 🥰

Today’s staff shoutout is: Mikaela! Mikaela started at our clinic earlier in 2024, after working 2 years at Dr. Dave’s Doggy Daycare, right next door. 🤗🐶🐕‍🦺

“I am definitely a dog person. If you look through these pictures you’ll see how obsessed I am with my fur-child, Hades!
I started at Reed Animal Hospital not too long ago, and am currently also working my way towards veterinary technician school. Although I am a major dog person, I still love cats, of course. Hades, however, doesn’t love cats, which is why I don’t have one.

In my free time, you’ll probably find me exploring the woods with my pup, road-tripping wherever I want to go, or getting a bite to eat with my best friends. Joining the staff at RAHC was the best decision I could’ve made, and I can’t wait to learn more about animal care as time goes on!”

One year (and a day) ago, Dr. Megan Rivera worked her first day at our clinic and officially joined the Reed Animal Hospital family! 🐶🐱🩺

Since then, she’s met hundreds of awesome clients and their fur-babies, performed surgeries, worked on some unique cases, and become an invaluable part of the team. 🤗🤩

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Rivera as we celebrate her one year anniversary! We ❤️ you, Dr. Rivera, and we can’t wait to keep making fun, awesome memories together! 🥳

Ready for a cuteness overload? This is Scotty, and she just came by for her first ever vet visit! 🩺👩‍⚕️🐶

Scotty, a 10-week-old Yorkie-Poo puppy, visited with Dr. Rivera for a comprehensive examination and vaccines. 💉💊

As you can see, Dr. Rivera used a fan-favorite veterinary hack: peanut butter on a tongue depressor, a yummy treat to distract from the “ouchie” vaccines. Scotty LOVED the peanut butter, and didn’t cry for any of her shots! 🤗👏

Say hello to Echo! 🐩🐶😍

Echo is one of the smartest puppies we’ve met – and we’re not being biased when we say that! At only 14 weeks of age, he already knows over a DOZEN tricks, including his name, as well as “sit”, “lay down”, “shake paw”, “come here”, and more.
Echo also loved meeting the vet assistants at his exam today, and happily let them play with his paws, nose, ears, and body.

Echo is a standard poodle (which means he’ll likely be over 60lb when fully grown). Not only will he have routine vet visits, but he’ll also need regular grooming appointments. It’s important that Echo allow strangers to examine and handle him, as this will make any future vet visits or grooming appointments a breeze!

Good job to Echo’s pet parents! What a smart (and charming) puppy.

Our staff shoutout today is Josiah! Josiah has been a part of the Reed Animal Hospital Campbell family as a veterinary assistant for nearly 2 years, and before he started here, he actually used to work with mice!

“Working in this field has been eye-opening, in the greatest of ways. Being able to be a part of a pet’s diagnostic, treatment, and/or at-home care plan brings me joy, as I love bettering the lives of both animals and their parents.

Outside of work, I enjoy hitting up local breweries with my friends, reading, and hiking. I am also currently in school, and I take pleasure in expanding my knowledge every day.”

Shoutout to Dominique!

Dominique is one of our dedicated veterinary assistants. She’s been in the veterinary medicine field for around 10 years, 2 of which she’s been working with us at Reed Animal Hospital.

Like many of our staff members, Dominique’s house is full of pets: she has a 3 year-old Frenchie named Azula Bell, a 3 year-old Maine C**n Mix named Hades, and... a snake! Her beautiful ball python, named Narcissa Ivy, is the newest addition to Dominique’s household, and she just turned a year old at the end of June.

“If you can’t tell, I love animals. I’ve been in this field for a decade or so, and I really don’t see myself switching it up, since I love what I do.
My French Bulldog, Azula, is my best friend and companion. She goes everywhere with me, whether to concerts and ball games, or restaurants, or even Disneyland. I’m so glad I get to work in an environment that allows me to bring her to work every day!”

Today we’re shouting out Mary, one of our devoted Client Service Representatives (CSRs). Mary has been a key asset at our clinic since 2023. Here is her quick about-me:

“I love working at RAHC! I joined the veterinary medicine field because of my love for animals and experience working customer service. Currently, I have 2 pets; a tiny Chihuahua named Nala, and a grandma kitty named Chocolate.

I hope to someday run a huge farm, with both large and small animals, with my partner, Jorge. In my free time, I enjoy thrifting, hiking, and I have even taken up amateur taxidermy (mostly of bugs, though). I love cucumber salad, Snickers bars, and Black Cherry sparkling water. One of my favorite parts of working at the clinic is being able to work alongside my best friend, Pia!”
