Our staff shoutout for this week is Celesté! 🎉😻

Celesté started at Reed Animal Hospital Campbell at the beginning of 2024 as a Veterinary Assistant. She currently lives with her amazing fiancé and their two Lovebirds, Mango and Davina. 🦜

“I joined this field of work because I love animals so much! When I was asked in kindergarten what I wanted to be when I grew up, I said “a veterinarian, so that I could help animals.”

In 5 to 10 years, I see myself building a family with my partner and continuing into Veterinary Medicine to become a Registered Technician in the future.

In my free time, I absolutely love to read, dance to pretty much any kind of music, spend time with my family, and go hiking and explore nature. My favorite foods are lasagna and tortas, they are my comfort foods when I miss home.”

At the end of August, the Reed Campbell team had the honor of being visited by Dr. Cat, the Medical Director at Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG)! 🏥

🩺 During her visit, Dr. Cat taught our staff members facts and important information regarding life-saving CPR protocols for pets. The Reed Campbell team also had the opportunity to practice running different codes and performing CPR (on a plush dog, of course). ⌛⌚

Learning experiences, such as Dr. Cat’s seminar, allow our team of veterinary assistants, technicians, and doctors, to freshen up their skills while also learning new procedures and techniques. Thank you, Dr. Cat! 🤗

Currently, the city of Santa Cruz is seeing a massive Leptospirosis outbreak, which is affecting the sea lion population! 🦭🌊

Lepto is a zoonotic disease, meaning it has the ability to spread to humans and dogs as well. It is primarily spread through urine, and the gathering of sea lions on Santa Cruz beaches has created unsafe conditions for dogs and their owners in the area.

Recently, Leptospirosis was determined to be a core vaccine; dog owners are advised to protect their pups from the disease via vaccination. If your pup is not vaccinated against Leptospirosis, give us a call at 408-369-1788 to book an appointment! 💉

Is your dog an outdoorsman? 🌲⛰️
Scampi here is - and his paw-rent feels safe and comfortable bringing him on adventures knowing he is on flea/tick/heartworm prevention! 🦟🐜🪳

Pets can contract many diseases from parasites, such as Lyme disease from ticks, or heartworm from mosquitoes. The best way to ensure your pup is properly protected is by keeping them on a year-round preventative medication, such as Simparica Trio, to prevent any unwanted pests.

This is Everly! She was just recently adopted, and her awesome family brought her for an exam mid-July, where they signed her up for the puppy package! 🐶🐕🦮

Everly has been started on a customized vaccine schedule for all her core vaccines, already been dewormed her first time, given her first dose of flea/tick/heartworm prevention, and more. 💉

We love when we get to meet a puppy’s family, and the cute pictures are an added bonus! 🤗

Earlier in July, Luna came in for her first-ever heartworm test (which cost $0, due to her being signed up for the puppy package, how awesome is that?!).

Her appointment was coincidentally scheduled on her 1st birthday! We love how Luna’s mom dressed her up in the cutest birthday outfit; what a little fashionable princess! 👑🥰😍

This is Spencer. He was recently in for vaccines, as part of his puppy package. 💉 Less than an hour after his appointment, however, his owner noticed that his face was becoming increasingly swollen!

Swelling of the face is one of many indicators that a pet may be having a vaccine reaction; other symptoms can include vomiting, difficulty breathing, lethargy, and fever.

Thankfully, Spencer’s owners caught his reaction quickly and brought him right back to our clinic, where Dr. Rivera administered medications to assist in bringing down his swelling and for any allergic reaction. 💊 His temperature was thankfully normal, and his energy was completely fine. 🌡️🤩

Spencer made a complete recovery, and the staff also had a great time cuddling him and giving him lots of attention and kisses. 🤩🤗
His story is an example of why it is imperative to monitor your pet after they receive any vaccines, and to bring them to your vet if you see any signs of a reaction.

Yesterday, our staff had the absolute pleasure of meeting Daisy, a Miniature Fox Terrier. 🦊🐶

She did very well for her ear cleaning, and was very eager for pets, snuggles, and of course, treats. What a sweet girl! 🥹
