Why does a well bred German Shepherd cost so much?
For a breeder to get a German Shepherd to breeding age properly, they are going to be spending anywhere from $6000 to roughly $12,000 PER dog.

Initial cost of the dog is roughly $3000-$7000 if it is purchased elsewhere and not from the breeders breeding stock.
Embark testing roughly $250. 
In our area, Penn hip and OFA is around $1300 a dog. 
Raise the dog for two years, which includes food, supplements, vaccines, deworming, vet bills, etc. 
Add in unexpected injuries or accidents.
And then, in some cases, the dogs do not pass one or more of their health test screenings, and therefore cannot be bred. So after two years of raising this dog and spending all of this money to hopefully have a dog worthy of breeding, the breeder is out This expense.
Some dogs do not develop the temperament or conformation that the breeder is seeking as well.
Some (or most) DO pass and can be bred.  then you have to factor in the possibility of pregnancy and whelping complications.

Some dogs do not produce what the breeder wants, and therefore will not be bred again.
Some moms turn out to not be good mothers and therefore should not be bred again.
Some stud dogs stop producing good s***m count. 
The list goes on and on.
Proper housing, fencing and shelter for the dogs and the puppies is more expensive than anyone can imagine.

A virus or illness could be brought onto the property and cause puppies and parents to be sick…. this can cost the breeder thousands upon thousands of dollars. 
The work involved with raising litters is intense and every single day. Breeders do not get a day off. 
I appreciate every good breeder.
I know the hard work, tears, time and dedication that they have put in. it is a passion. It is a labor of love.

I need to do a little rant this morning.

This positive only training or “one size fits all “ training can be very dangerous.
Every dog is different and while some softer or more biddable dogs can be trained with positive only; that just isnt reality with most dogs.
A fast growing GSD with a propensity for testing boundaries could become a spoiled velociraptor very quickly without proper and FIRM correction.
A lot of people seem afraid to correct their dog believing it will make the dog fearful or not love them; that it’s abusive etc etc
But correction, that is on time and done properly is an absolute must in most cases.

If you’re unsure how to do this, you should reach out to a trainer for help. And certainly not a positive only trainer.🫣

Puppies need to learn rules, boundaries, and limitations from a very early age.

Litter announcement: Trooper and Summer had nine puppies yesterday. there are four males and five females. All the males and three females are solid black. Two of the females are bi colors.🥰

I’m very sorry everyone, but I won’t be doing a video of Nicas and troopers five week old puppies today and possibly will be skipping Jordan‘s six week video tomorrow. We are dealing with hurricane strength winds and power outages. It’s taking everything in me to keep puppies warm and generators going. Plus, I have another litter due at any time.🫣 all the puppies are doing well. Picture of Patara for attention. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
