What does "DE" even mean?

In terms of nutrition, DE stands for digestible energy. DE - Digestible energy - is the amount of energy that is absorbed from a horse’s diet. It is measured in Mcal/lb (mega calories per pound).

Digestible Energy comes from proteins, carbohydrates, fats, and oils in grains and hay.

The DE requirements for a horse can vary widely, depending on their age, body condition, and level of activity.
