Very true words from our friends over at Doyle Botts Farm!

Very true words from our friends over at Doyle Botts Farm!

It's Farmers Market Week, so here's the Top Ten Reasons to Shop at a Farmers Market near you!

10. You like checking out produce that is new to you. Pommegrannie, anyone???

9. You know that -- aside from a home garden -- farmers markets are THE source for the freshest stuff you can find. We pick a lot of our produce the day we sell it.

8. You want to meet kids who can discuss the types of tomatoes we grow as easily as they can talk about the latest courses on Super Mario Kart. (Note: Kids are headed back to school this week, so they may or may not be available to be tested on this...)

7. You can talk about growing things with people who grow things. We enjoy seeing people's garden pics.

6. You know that a dollar spent locally will mean more to our rural communities than a dollar spent at a store owned by shareholders who have never set foot in this region.

5. You want to meet other people who hate picking green beans. (Seriously, it's the worst.)

4. You have a story to share about a raccoon, skunk, possum, rabbit, or other varmint who has destroyed your garden. Trust me when I say we will feel your pain.

3. You know the cost will not be much different than in a store, but also that the benefit of the purchase all goes to that farm family.

2. You like doing your part to change the fact that only 15 cents of every food dollar goes to the farmer or rancher on average. Buy at a farmers market and 100 cents of that food dollar is going to the farmer.

And the number 1 reason...
1. You like good food, supporting your local farmers, and understand that strong farmers markets contribute to having strong communities.

Thank you for shopping at farmers markets!

How about some fresh veggies for dinner? Or maybe you want to do some canning? We’ve got you covered!
We’ve been as busy as the bees this morning working in the garden and high tunnel! Currently available: 1 bushel of green beans, hot banana peppers, green bell peppers, tomatoes, and plenty of sweet banana peppers! And don’t forget, we’ve got beef, too! Give us a call or shoot us a message if you’d like some.

The Market is cancelled for tomorrow (Saturday, July 15th). If you’re interested in getting some beef, give us a holler and we’ll hook you up!

Market Canceled tomorrow Saturday July 15th!

Due to severe weather predicted for tomorrow during market hours, we have decided to cancel the market and reschedule our mid-season celebration.

We apologize for the inconvenience or change of plans this may cause for our customers this weekend.

If you are looking to get in touch with a vendor this weekend- please message or email the market and we can get you in touch with them!

You can find us again Wednesday July 19th at the Slade Welcome Center and Saturday July 22nd back at Natural Bridge!

Thanks for your understanding, as canceling is never an easy decision.
