I am proud to announce that I am now a Certified Dog Behavior Consultant (CDBC) through the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants. Obtaining my CDBC is something I have wanted to do since the start of my career. I cannot tell you the amount of hours I have poured into this certification. This is a true accumulation of years and years of hard work. Each of my written case studies were over 25 pages long and I had to hand-write the majority of those pages due to being in a car accident earlier this year.

On the last picture of this post you will see the requirements for the CDBC application. The IAABC requires applicants to write their answers and none of the selections are multiple choice. Applications are rigorously scored and held to the ethics of the IAABC which promote animal welfare and professional conduct between trainers and behavior consultants.

This certification is also a turning point in my career as I am moving towards working with dogs with aggression, fear, anxiety and stress. From what I have seen in the past 15 years, we need more professionals in the industry who can work with these “challenging cases” and get to the root of the behavior through non aversive means.

Virtual Sessions can be extremely beneficial for training, particularly with reactive dogs. Here we have Holly and Shyla, who are working through their fear of strangers. I have worked with them in person and now have done a few virtual sessions. With virtual training it allows the dog to focus without the presence of a trigger (in this case, me).
