We’ve had our first two dogs bitten by rattlesnakes this week. Stella is grateful that she's been vaccinated annually and got a quick treatment of antivenin! Thanks to her owners quick response, she was back home in just 24hrs ready to go again!

A few things to remember when it comes to keeping your furry friends happy and healthy.
1. It is important to seek veterinary care as soon as you know your pet has been bit. Oftentimes, the swelling and other symptoms do not set in immediately. Just like you, the quicker they begin to receive care the better their chances and the better the treatment works.
2. Remove any collars or harnesses so that they don’t constrict breathing once the swelling begins. Try to keep them as quiet as possible and limit movement.
3. We have antivenin that can be administered to your pet, which is much more affordable than the human alternative. So don’t let the fear of price stop you from getting help!
4. There is a rattlesnake vaccine available to your pets (and horses). While it doesn’t guarantee the outcome, it has shown us that symptoms are lessened increasing their chances of survival.

It’s kitten season!
Remember that kittens best chance of survival is with their mom. We do carry the supplies if you find yourself needing bottles or milk replacer, but we do not have the staff for 24 hr kitten care.
If you have kittens to give away/or are in need of barn cats, holler at us. We do keep a running list this time of year to help get these guys to new homes!

We’ve seen a major increase in missing/found pets lately so we thought it deserved a post.

1) If you find a pet with a rabies tag, it should have a phone number to call. That rabies tag number is linked only to that specific vet clinic. They should be able to tell you which pet that tag number was issued to.

2) Microchips are implanted by your veterinarian, and can’t fall off like a collar can so are a great option! ANY vet clinic or animal shelter that has a chip reader can scan that chip and help the pet get reunited. Most microchips are NOT a GPS so you won’t be able to track your pets, it is to be used if they’re found by someone and scanned.

Update: The girls are hitching a ride north to a rescue organization in a few weeks.
These girls are looking for their forever home. They’re currently with a foster, have been checked for microchips (didn’t have one), and are now up to date on vaccines, and the doodle has been groomed. They have been exposed to other dogs, cats, and chickens. Foster says, they wouldn’t recommend leaving them unattended with any of the above but are fine with supervision. They do seem to be bonded, so a home together would be amazing, but not necessary.

****SHOT CLINIC UPDATE****

A couple things for the shot clinic tomorrow.
1. Due to construction traffic, things could get a little hectic. When entering the parking lot, use the normal entrance. To exit, please go through the South Gate of the barn and proceed up to third street. You'll come out by the dentist office, and we won't create a traffic jam!
2. When entering the clinic, please use the north door on the front of the clinic (not the normal front door). We'll loop you through the clinic and out the front door, to minimize excited dogs making new friends.
3. Remember that we're only offering discounted vaccines and microchips during this time. To keep the flow moving for everyone, we cannot do other services during this time, but we'd be happy to schedule you for any additional services your pet might need.

Julio and Cinthia Sanchez lost their home and all their belongings in the Smokehouse Creek fire. Julio has been an employee of the Canadian Vet Clinic for nearly three years. Anyone that knows him knows that he’s always willing to help, running everywhere with a smile on his face. They have four children- Ashley-12 , Valeria-11,Julio-7, and Bella-5.

Thanks to some very generous people at HerculesAg, we have the opportunity to raise some money for this wonderful family.
