Thank you to Jsaree Jennings (a student at MCC) for recording this video interview of Marilynn Kellogg, one of Pet Connections' volunteers, and her dog Taz on Monroe Community College Campus.
In the video, you'll see the special bond between Marilynn and Taz, and how Pet Connections utilizes Animal Assisted Intervention to improve lives.
Pet Connections, a division of The Arc Ontario, creates unique experiences by combining the healing power of pets with socialization for people with disabilities or other challenges. Pet Connections was founded in 2012, the first of it's kind, Animal Assisted Intervention program designed specifically for people with disabilities. They've since expanded to include volunteer opportunities with training and certification, similar to national organizations.

Did you know it's International Assistance Dog Week (IADW)
This week was created to recognize all the devoted, hardworking assistance dogs helping individuals mitigate their disability-related limitations. We recognize and honor assistance dogs, educate the public about assistance dogs, honor puppy raisers and trainers and recognize heroic deeds performed by assistance dogs in the community.
In this video, we honor our Animal Assisted Activity and Therapy Trainer, Cameo Perry. In this short video, she demonstrates how to properly kiss and call over a dog for affection. Many dogs display signs of anxiety that we are unaware of; while we may think we're being kind and loving, we're not respecting the dog's space. Through her guidance, we can enrich our interactions with dogs safely.
Thank you, Cameo for all you do in the disability and training community!

Talk about a working lunch! See how Pet Connections Occupational Therapists use the treat launcher to demonstrate hand strength and coordination. Thanks to furry friend Bonny for assisting with today's activity!
Animal assisted programs encourage people with disabilities to improve their range of motion, strength, endurance, and to increase social interactions.
