Here are some tips to reduce the risk:
โ€ข Protect your pet: talk to your vet about preventative treatments
โ€ข Treat your yard: to make your yard less hospitable, clear debris and check out treatment products designed to kill flea and ticks
โ€ข Perform checks: After they've been outside, check your pet for visible insects and unusual bumps that could be engorged ticks

This week's featured friend is Scout! He is approximately three years old and is Red and White Australian Cattle Dog Mix. Spunky Scout is curious and full of energy! He loves to run, jump, and play. He is smart and always keeps us on our toes.

Scot gets along well with other dogs, we suspect he will acclimate well to cats and children as well. Stop by the shelter to meet him! We are open Tuesday thru Saturday, 10am -4pm.

Meet Rufus!

Rufus is a 10 month old neutered boxer, lab, Pyrenees mix who is still all puppy.

At 10 months old, he is looking for a family with patience and help him with his training

The current owners got him through a private adoption about 3 weeks ago and learned the pup does NOT like cats.

So it is recommended that the new owner has no cats. Rufus does appear to like other dogs.

This high-energy guy is all puppy. He still needs some potty training and will chew when he gets too board.

He does appear to have some separation anxiety and does not like having his back paws touched.

We're starting off strong with sweet Zee Zee - one of our longest shelter residents. We can't understand why she hasn't found a home yet - she is high energy and excitable. She loves toys and to play. But that doesnโ€™t mean she doesnโ€™t love her downtime - after a good play session Zee Zee can turn into your typical lazy pup and loves to snuggle. She is a happy girl, positive and silly. Mixed breed approx 5 years old.

Meet Kora!

Kora is a beautiful spayed 2 year old mix breed.

Described as a 45 lb sweet heart who loves people and enjoys cuddles, being goofy, zoomies (watch out when she gets going ๐Ÿ˜€) and walks.

While she loves people of all ages, it has been determined that she doesn't get along with other animals.

Thank you to our community. ๐Ÿพโค๏ธ We've received an outpouring of support that has eased our burden as we work through the difficult circumstances at the shelter. Our staff continues to follow recommendations from our veterinary providers to ensure the health and safety of the animals in our care following the recent animal cruelty case at 18 Middle Street in Geneva. The shelter remains closed to the public on Saturday, February 22. Donations are still appreciated and can be dropped off in our vestibule. How AMAZING are these!!! Kids at the Geneva Middle School took to time to draw some of the past and current adoptable animals. Look at what a great job they did!!!! NOTE: Our website is getting updated, and we hope to have it current before March 1st. In the meantime, please call or stop by the shelter for the most up to date adoptable animal..

Tonight Board President, Kurt Koczent, addressed more 50 volunteers and staff members at the annual volunteer appreciation dinner held in Canadaigua. Time is one of our most valuable assets and the amount of people who spend their time helping the animals and the shelter cannot and should never go un noticed. Special thanks went out to the following in additional to all that attended: Krystal Wentz for all the amazing adoption write ups shared here in FB and IG. Jeannne Kaminsky - Our Volunteer Coordinator Kathy Perry-Ernisses who keeps us all organized and on track Susan Cunningham for the amount hours assisting on the fundraising committee. Tim and Barb Kesel for all of their time and effort spent on the spaghetti dinner and pancake breakfast. Phelps American Legion for the repeated use of their space for multiple fundraising events. Mike and the entire Valcom Family for the amazing OCHS shirts and merchandise. Heavy Kevies for catering tonight's dinner (it was soooo good!) Ontario County Fair Board for the use of the Carriage House tonight for the event. And Lastly, everyone who has helped in some way in 2024. We cannot do it alone. (More pictures of the event to come tomorrow)
