JUNE IS PET PREPAREDNESS MONTH!
This post is about what to do in case of an emergency. We'll be posting various ways you can get prepared for your new or existing family member this month.

It’s important to include your pets in any emergency plans you make for your household. They are totally dependent on you for their safety and well-being. Make sure to keep yourself informed of any events that can impact where you are and know a safe place to take your pets. Know which hotels and motels along your evacuation route will accept pets in an emergency.

Build an emergency backpack or tote and include the following
- 10-day stock of your pet's food and medication
- Toys to help with stress
- Thumb drive with digital copy of up-to-date vaccine and medical records and printed copy of what's on the thumb drive
- Extra collar, harness and leash and durable ID tag with pets name and phone number
- Portable crate
- Name, address and phone number of vet
- Emergency contact in case something happens to you
- Current photo of your pet in case they get lost

April 30th is Adopt a Shelter Pet and National Therapy Animal Day!

Did you know that Bad Dog Boutique is a social enterprise of The Arc Ontario and the Arc Ontario works with both animal shelters and therapy dogs?

ONTARIO COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY at HAPPY TAILS ANIMAL SHELTER
Helps support homeless, abused, and neglected pets in Ontario County.

Our JET Animal Care flight volunteers at Happy Tails every other week.
In this flight group, the participants gain the skills needed to work in an animal-related field. Some skills that you will be working on in this flight group would be safe-handling of animals, recognizing animal behaviors, and caring for various different types of animals.

PET CONNECTIONS
A division of The Arc Ontario, combines the healing power of pets with socialization to provide a unique experience for each person. Pet Connections was created in 2012 as the first of its kind Animal Assisted Intervention (commonly known as pet therapy) resource specifically developed to benefit people with disabilities or other challenges.

April 23 is lost dog awareness day!

This day increases awareness concerning missing dogs and celebrates reunions.

Through networks of shelters, veterinaries, social media, and other media sources, many lost canines and families reunite. The day is an opportunity to learn more about prevention and networking. There are also steps to take to prevent your family pet from going missing. Some of these preventative steps also help return Fido to you if he does go missing.

Happy Earth Day!

How you can do your part this earth day

- Choose locally or handmade products or purchase through a local store vs an online retailer: Ruffwear brand sold in our stores and is made in the USA.

- Go green with pet care: Explore eco-friendly options like biodegradable p**p bags, recycled or sustainably-sourced toys, and cat litter made from recycled materials.

- Mind your meals: Consider sustainable pet food brands or explore lower-impact options.

- Become a p**p patroller: Double down on responsible pet waste disposal by using biodegradable bags.

- Get outdoors and clean up: Take your furry friend on a walk and pick up trash along the way.

- Plant a tree together: Beautify your yard and create shade for your pet by planting a native tree.

April 17 - 24 Is National Pet ID Week!

Did you know that Bad Dog sells ID's and provides engraving with each purchase? Stop in today!

National Pet ID Week is always for seven days starting April 17. It gives pet owners an excellent opportunity to review the steps they can take to ensure their pet has the best chance of being recovered should the animal become lost.

An estimated one in three pets will go missing at some point. Data also suggests that about 5 million animals enter shelters each year. Of those shelter animals, 40 to 60 percent are lost pets. Getting those pets back home can reduce shelter crowding and free up valuable resources and kennel space for truly homeless animals.
