Don’t stop this train.
“Don't stop this train
Don't for a minute change the place you're in
And don't think I couldn't ever understand
I tried my hand
John, honestly we'll never stop this train" - John Mayer
My friend reached out to me this morning. Her grandma was just put on hospice and they don’t know how much longer they have with her. I remember when I lost my memere and how hard it was and still is for me. Being so busy with the farm and life (!) I didn’t realize I’ve never actually dealt with it or really thought about it in depth. To me, everyone dies, but energy stays. She is still very much alive in my mind.
As I sit here waiting for a call before I can get on with my day, I’ve heard multiple times on the radio about family members passing and that there’s nothing we can do to stop it. Death is inevitable for every one of us and aging is a privilege.
It seems crazy now that experiencing death more than the average person we still don’t recognize the fragility of life. It should be fresh in my mind after the last year of loss and my brothers horrific motorcycle accident. Maybe it’s taking it for granted or self-preservation, numbness? Whatever it is we can’t forget that our time here isn’t infinite.
Why do we talk so much about life but never discuss death? After all, you have to live to die.
Take care of your family and friends. Most importantly take care of your vessel in all aspects. Mind, body, spirit/energy.
Here is your reminder to live life to the fullest. Make every day count. Appreciate life for what it is. We only get one shot at this thing… We can’t stop this train.
*Never thought I’d share this, but this moment from a couple years ago is burned into my memory. The fold/herd essentially held a funeral for a calf born to a first time mom during the arctic freeze. We have made it a point to always allow our animals to mourn the loss of their “family”. I don’t know why I took this video, but it serves as a reminder that life is
