Iā€™m so excited to announce I will be offering Fearless Vet Visit training at New Leaf Veterinary Clinic starting January 21st!

Fearless Vet Visits are 25-minute private training sessions in an exam room carefully designed to help dogs who are afraid of the vet overcome their fears.

Spots are currently limited to 4 clients per month. You can book your training session by clicking the link below.

Is your dog afraid of the veterinary clinic? We can fix that with training. Fearless vet visit training is private training in a veterinary clinic, providing a real-life setting to help your dog learn the vet isn't so scary.

Getting a kitten or know someone who is? My incredible cat behavior colleague is starting Kitten Kindergarten! Itā€™s all online and easy to learn. Also, Erica is a wonderful human and teacher. Youā€™ll love her!

Calling all kittens!! I am so excited to announce my first ever KITTEN KINDERGARTEN class! Did you know kittens have a socialization period of development just like puppies? This sensitive period is actually strongest between 2-7 weeks, but kittens are in their sensitive socialization phase up to about 15 weeks old. I'm accepting kittens up to 5 months old for class.

This is our opportunity to mold kitten brains into brave, confident, happy, well rounded adult cats. We want to carefully and positively introduce all kinds of novelty like body handling, new people, vet visits, car rides, carriers, and more!

In this 3 week introductory class, we will go over what is socialization, do socialization exercises together, begin basic training, learn more about your kittens, and create a strong bond with your new kitty.

Classes will be Mondays at 6:30pm mountain time, December 9th-23rd. Class is virtual, which means you can join from anywhere in the world!

Thank you vet techs for everything you do!

Thank you vet techs for everything you do!

This week is National Veterinary Technician Week! A vet tech is an integral part of the veterinary team. They are trained and licensed in the state of Ohio to perform many important tasks, such as drawing blood (phlebotomy), assisting with surgical and anesthetic procedures, administering injections, and much more. Vet techs help keep our hospital flow efficient while providing excellent patient care. THANK YOU to our wonderful vet techs for all that they do. We'll be featuring them throughout the week. Feel free to leave words of appreciation or drop by to thank them in person!

Common Mistakes People Make When Training Their Animals
"...I see animal caretakers making the same mistakes over and over while training their animals. Professionals like us frequently make them too! In this multipart article, Iā€™ll list mistakes I commonly see and how you can fix them." -Erin Maloney of Raising Pawtential & Erin Maloney Equine Services

Learning shouldn't hurt. And since professional licensure is not required to call yourself a dog trainer in the US and unlike in many countries where they already ban the use of shock, (and in some cases prong collars), in the US, it's still completely legal to use these barbaric tools in the name of "training".

I will not allow promoting the use of shock collars (or any aversives) on my page. I'm sure some have anecdotal stories of how well they worked for their dog (because pain will 100% interrupt behavior - you don't need to touch a hot stove more than once to learn not to do that again), but we know there are more effective and more humane ways to train dogs.

And for every story you have, I have a counter story about a client who came to me with fallout effects of those inhumane training methods. Just recently another client came to me after "training" with a national chain who told them to throw bean bags at their fearful dog when she was just communicating that she was upset. And guess what? It made her more fearful, and didn't "fix" her unwanted behavior. And now she's worse off. And there's no consumer protection in cases like this. All I can do is apologize and help them.

The research and evidence is clear. Behavior suppression is not behavior modification. Learn why not to use shock collars here:
