Thank you vet techs for everything you do!

This week is National Veterinary Technician Week! A vet tech is an integral part of the veterinary team. They are trained and licensed in the state of Ohio to perform many important tasks, such as drawing blood (phlebotomy), assisting with surgical and anesthetic procedures, administering injections, and much more. Vet techs help keep our hospital flow efficient while providing excellent patient care. THANK YOU to our wonderful vet techs for all that they do. We'll be featuring them throughout the week. Feel free to leave words of appreciation or drop by to thank them in person!

Learning shouldn't hurt. And since professional licensure is not required to call yourself a dog trainer in the US and unlike in many countries where they already ban the use of shock, (and in some cases prong collars), in the US, it's still completely legal to use these barbaric tools in the name of "training".

I will not allow promoting the use of shock collars (or any aversives) on my page. I'm sure some have anecdotal stories of how well they worked for their dog (because pain will 100% interrupt behavior - you don't need to touch a hot stove more than once to learn not to do that again), but we know there are more effective and more humane ways to train dogs.

And for every story you have, I have a counter story about a client who came to me with fallout effects of those inhumane training methods. Just recently another client came to me after "training" with a national chain who told them to throw bean bags at their fearful dog when she was just communicating that she was upset. And guess what? It made her more fearful, and didn't "fix" her unwanted behavior. And now she's worse off. And there's no consumer protection in cases like this. All I can do is apologize and help them.

The research and evidence is clear. Behavior suppression is not behavior modification. Learn why not to use shock collars here:

Hey everyone! As some of you know, we try to support our local Stark County Humane Society as much as we can. They take in all species, not just cats and dogs! Right now, they can use our community’s help with almost a dozen horses they rescued. You can contact them directly to make monetary donations for fencing, feed, hay, and other supplies. You can also use the link to their Amazon wishlist to directly purchase horse supplies. The horses and the Humane Society appreciate any way you can help!
