If there is one thing I love, it is when a customer says I can have creative freedom with a mount. A great customer of mine harvested these two mergansers and we came to determine that they are Non Breeding Hooded Merganser Drakes. They have some very common features shared with a hooded merganser hen but they had noticeable yellow eyes and several distinct markings of a drake. They may look plain and brown but when you zoom in they have some beautiful patterns on their back, belly, and sides. I decided to show off the hood on the top merganser (as if it is above water waiting for a tasty meal) while showcasing the beautiful back on the bottom merganser while also showcasing the mergansers avid hunting skills as he is chasing down a reproduction minnow. This mount was so much fun to bring to life and I hope to do more like it in the near future!

Just finished up this stud of a blue goose that was taken during conservation season in North East Arkansas! Geese definitely require more attention but this one turned out awesome!!

Somehow, out of all the wood ducks I have mounted, this is the first wood duck pair that I have mounted on a duck box. I am a huge fan of how this turned out, and I hope to do many more like it in the future. If you didn't know, wood ducks typically nest in trees, but because of habitats constantly changing, natural cavities for them to nest in can become scarce. So, it is very common for wood ducks to nest in man-made nesting boxes, which can keep them safe during nesting season and allow hens to safely lay eggs out of the reach of predators. Wood duck boxes helped increase the population of wood ducks dramatically and were a crucial tool for conservation in the early 1900s. Wood duck boxes are still used to this day to help protect and aid the wood duck population.

I am beyond thankful this year for such wonderful customers who trust me with their most prized harvests allowing me to do this art that I love full time. I am also so thankful for a loving wife and family who supports me in everything I pursue, and also for the fact that we have a son on the way who will be here before we know it! Thank you so much to each and every one of you who has supported my business. It truly means the world to me and I am so excited for another year of serving you!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Good morning to all of my duck hunters! The day we have been anticipating all year long is finally among us! Opening weekend starts now!! Good luck, shoot straight, and be careful out there!

If you find yourself lucky enough to bag a beautiful bird this season and desire to have mounted, please take an extra 5 minutes to package it well. This includes wiping off excess blood, wrapping the head and feet in soaking wet paper towels and gently placing the bird in a large ziplock baggy with the air squeezed out. For years people swore by pantyhose to keep a bird in peak shape but it is NOT a option. Panty hose actually draws the moisture out of the bird and causes freezerburn to set in much quicker. Packaging correctly in freezer bags and paper towels will help extend freezer life tremendously and will make the finished product that much better. While there is a lot I can do to save a bird, please remember that what you bring me is a direct representation of what you will receive! Thank you and good luck to all!
