Oh our beautiful Queen, the stories you could tell π€π€π€
When you and Vinnie got on that trailer last year I had no idea what was in store for all of us over the next year with many parts being horrible and many parts being beautiful too π€
You were headed north and got off first and then Vinnie came here π
I never would have thought in my wildest dreams that you would come here but then your momma reached out asking if you could come here. I thought it would just be to stay so you and Vinnie could be accepting of eachother before going home but it turned into so much more.
When we went to pick you up I ended up taking photos of you on our first stop headed towards home and sent them to your mom.
Not long after I posted that you were on your way home I got an email asking if you were okay because you looked so different than you did on the range and in holding.
The truth? You weren't really. There had been significant weight loss and what we would find out just over a week later, confirmed muscle atrophy too.
You came here 4.5 months after Doswell quote "gentled, leading at liberty, picking up your feet at liberty", and what I would call a shell of your former self.
Of course your momma was hysterical and she was here by the weekend and had the vet here as soon as we could. We had a f***l run and your teeth done to rule out physical causes, both of those didn't contribute so we started a refeeding program.
Yesterday under oath the feeders admitted they didn't weight your hay (after the owner insisted they fed by weight not by flake) or feed but estimated it at 1.5lbs of grain and 5lbs of hay twice a day.
5lbs under the absolute minimum 1.5% forage rule for a 1200lb horse and a whoping 23lbs under the 3% forage rule for a 1200lb horse.
As time went on I watched you come alive, a reluctance to trot turned into a reluctance to canter and then before my very eyes you were running with the herd, acting like the boss mare you are, and showing me one reason after another to love you π₯Ήπ₯°π
You now happily halter, lead, pick up/out all 4 feet, turn in/out on two strand electric tape, load, take a surcigle, take a saddle and pad, ground drive, take a bit (although you don't love that one π
), and you have even had your first rides π
I wish we could have done more under saddle my sweet girl but when we first started riding we had to stop because you just weren't recovered enough to handle my weight yet so things got put on hold and we just did more ground work instead π
Thankfully now the vet is happy with your weight and says he only needs to see a bit more muscle along your topline π₯Ήπ
This journey of yours has been dark at points and I just hope that your time here has provided you the light that you have always deserved π€
As we load you up in the wee hours there will be two pieces of my heart on the trailer headed towards Maryland but I rest easy knowing that you are going to the BEST people and the best place π
Your people are fierce mustang advocates and have proven that time and time again in the time I have known them, I could not imagine better people to be handing the Queen of The Peaks over to π₯Ήππ
Here's to your forever our incredible Queen! May you forever be, Wild At Heart π€π€π€
