So I am a couple days late but March 14 is "pi" day. (If you were not strong in math that is 3.14 ) It's been a long time since I have posted anything about my Pi....the horse. He is the my first horse. He is my most patient teacher. He tolerated my multitude of mistakes as a learner and therefore became my sacrificial lamb for the benefit of my learning and the horses that that would come after him. He has been retired for the past 4 years, but has enriched so many lives with his sweet demeanor. He now lives in my back yard. The horse that started it all for me and taught me more than I could ever repay him in alfalfa. Pi man...

Consider the charming Missdoubledally, a 2018 registered Quarter Horse Buckskin mare with notable ancestry thanks to her sire, CM Dynamites Dally, and great-grandfather, Doc O Dynamite. This well-started mare stands at 14.1 barefoot and displays natural talent for western dressage while remaining versatile enough for various equestrian pursuits.

Pretty big weekend at the Southern Equine Expo . Bravado and I demonstrated working equitation to full cloud eager to learn more about the sport. I competed with two other c**t starter throughout the weekend. It was an honor to be a part of it this year. I am so proud of Grace Thompson who blew the competition away (including me) and took home the buckle. It has been so fun watching her horsemanship grow from a youth mustang trainer into a very talented horse woman. She worked her tail off getting ready for this and it showed. Congratulations!

The 120 day journey. I cried when I picked her out and I cried again when I let her her go. Fancy on the inside and nothing fancy on the outside. She is now owned and love by 2 young girls that love dressage and eventing. She now calls Texas home. At thanksgiving I wasn't even sure if we were even going to be going to Texas. 30 very focused rides later, we packed her up and got it done. 17 of the best trainers in the nation we made top ten and finished 7th over all. I never expected more than my horse's current best and that is what she gave me. The makeovers are truely a production and take a crew. I can't thank my crew enough. Kasey Doty-Quiles for her organization, Kylieanne Marie for her marketing and social media. My sponsors: Evera Premo Cristina Goff Sierra Gowens
Dana Smith for being my copilate on the drive. The "Amy’s " for lending a hand whenever needed, the crew that tended to my son when I was with my horse Sarah Painter Samantha Gallagher Faithe Michaels . And if you weren't any of these people you were on the 3 a.m. freestyle practice crew: Kate Bryant Dori Hale and everyone else. And if I missed someone it wasn't intentional.

Texas update: just like you need to deal with the horse that shows up in training, traveling is no different. In a last minute decision, me and my travel partners, sebastian my son and Dana Smith hit the road Sunday evening and headed 9 hours south to Lafayette LA. Dana has family and horse connections there. We finally got to bed at 5:00 a.m. Georgia time. Yesterday we drove another leg to Cleveland, TX. By the time we pulled in at sunset the truck and trailer was encased in ice. We had crossed the front just north of Houston. We woke up this morning to sunny skies, cilly Temps, and dry roads. Last leg today. Another new dynamic to this Texas trip will be having my son with me. We have been working on school work when I have not been driving.

12/25/2023

This Christmas Eve I thought I would share with everyone a recent revelation that I have had. I have always known that gentling wild mustangs is different than gentling a domestic horse. The domestic horses are a custom to the presence of humans from the beginning. There is far less fear of us humans as predators as there is with the mustangs. Some mustangs don't even see humans until they are several years old and they recognize humans instantly as predators. The biggest obstacle in gentling a wild horse is convincing them that you are not a predator. How do we do that? Well a good trainer will learn how to present more like a prey animal. A famous horseman once said he could fix the problem between horses and humans if he could give horses an ounce of human and give us a gallon of horse. In short to gain the trust of a wild horse you will need to walk in his shoes, look at things from his perspective and understand him FIRST.
So why am I reflecting on this on Christmas eve? To remind us all that tomorrow is the anniversary of God doing just this for us. He sent his son Jesus to us to experience everything that we humans experience. He experienced everything that we face in our daily lives both good and bad. He lost a parent, he celebrated weddings, he laughed and made other laugh. He was tempted, he was poor, he was hungry. He was celebrated, worshiped and adored. He was rejected, persecuted, betrayed by others. He experienced stess and anger to the levels most of us couldn't handle. He often spent time by himself with his thoughts. There is not much in his 33 years that he didn't experience that some of us have including extreme suffering and death. This was how God bridged the gap between himself and us. He walked in our shoes and saw the world through our eyes.
Just like it was too much for God to expect us to understand his world and come to his level it is also too much for us to expect a wild horse to just accept blindly our domestic lifestyle. But if we take the time to get on their level we will gain their faith in our leadership then the gap can be bridge.
May you remember tomorrow as the day Jesus came to us.

Equine First Aid Course! Sunday, October 8th. Offered by Equi-First Aid Middle Ga. Hosted by Wild at Heart Ranch.

We are very fortunate in our area to have several large animal vets but even they can get overbooked and bogged down given their vast area of service. It is important to know what constitutes an emergency, what information do you need to give the vet in an emergency situation, what is your horse's baseline for temp and heart rate, how to care for a puncture wound until the vet can arrive, etc. This is exactly what the presenter from Equi-First Aid will cover. Note this course is a pre-req to their more advanced courses that we will host later this year. More details below!

When: Sunday, Oct 8th (9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.)

Where: Wild at Heart Ranch (Canton, GA)

What: Basic First Aid - includes a workbook, lecture, & hands-on application (we provide the well-behaved horses for the hands-on portion, aka., our lesson ponies!)

How Much: $210 (non-refundable after Sept 24th)

What Now: If you are interested, email us @ [email protected] and we will provide further instructions on payment and send you a waiver release form.
