250 years of independence — what a milestone to celebrate! The team at Free Home Animal Hospital wishes you and your family (furry members included) a safe, happy, and healthy 4th of July.

As you gather for cookouts, fireworks, and celebrations this weekend, here are a few quick reminders to keep your pets safe:

🐾 Fireworks can be scary so keep pets indoors in a quiet, secure space during evening celebrations
🐾 Make sure your pet's ID tags and microchip info are up to date (July 5th is historically one of the busiest days for lost pets!)
🐾 Keep matches, lighter fluid, glow sticks, and food scraps like corn cobs and bones out of pets' reach
🐾 A tired pup is a calmer pup and a good walk earlier in the day can help take the edge off

At just 7 months old, Leroy James should be chasing tennis balls, running and living his very best puppy life.

Instead, this sweet Labradoodle found himself in the fight of his life after swallowing a very large rock that his tiny body simply couldn’t pass. Over the course of a week, Leroy lost 12 pounds and became sicker by the day.

His family loved him deeply and had taken wonderful care of him. When faced with the cost of emergency surgery they simply couldn’t afford, they made the heartbreaking and selfless decision to surrender Leroy so he could get the lifesaving care he needed. That decision came from love, the kind that puts a dog’s life above your own heartbreak.

We received a call from our trusted veterinary partner who was caring for Leroy. They believed in us. They believed in this community. And they knew that together, we could give this boy a second chance. We are so grateful for their compassion, their quick action, and the incredible care they provided.

Leroy is everything you’d hope for in a puppy. Gentle. Affectionate. Silly. The kind of dog who melts into you when you sit on the floor. Even through pain, his tail still tries to wag.

His surgery to remove the rock was lifesaving. Now comes recovery, monitoring, medications, and lots of TLC. The total cost of his care is $2,300, and we’re asking our village to help us cover it.
