I’ve spent the past 10 years learning a lot about canine psychology and dog training during my time as a military canine handler, and I’m still learning from each and every dog and owner that I work with. Whether

you want your dog to sniff out IEDs, or come when called, I’ve learned that all behaviors start with the same thing: engagement and building a bond with your dog. If your dog is focused on you, they’ll do what you ask them to. Here are a few issues that we’ve helped owners to solve:

A common question we receive is: How do you manage group training?

The answer is we use controlled environments and techniques to ensure each dog can focus, even with others around. Only once the student has shown us they understand what we are asking and can do it on a regular basis, then we begin training them around other pups.

What a perfect example of what is possible with our Mobil Day School program. Pete is out around other dogs and people in new environments all day most days of the week.

So something that use to be challenging like the Vet, isn't anything scary or new for him any more! I have to give a shout out to Pete's parents as well, for doing the homework and for trusting us to do what we do best.

Training Tip Monday: Why We Love Sit with Duration 🐶❤️

At Dogology University, we’re all about keeping things simple and stress-free for our furry friends. That’s why we prefer teaching Sit with Duration over Sit and Stay. Here’s why:

Sit with Duration is all about clarity. When your pup learns to sit and hold that position until released, it makes things easier for both of you. There’s no confusion—your dog knows they’re supposed to stay put until you say otherwise. It’s a straightforward rule that builds patience and focus.

On the other hand, using Sit and Stay can sometimes be a bit tricky. Having two separate commands can confuse your pup, especially in high-energy situations. Simplifying it with Sit with Duration means one clear instruction and a happy, confident dog.

We believe in making training fun and uncomplicated, so you and your pup can enjoy every moment together!

Ziggy is learning sit here, using a high reward treat as the lure we make sure to gain Ziggy's attention for the best results. Then, we begin by bringing that lure (treat) to our chest and saying the word sit, when Ziggy does the behavior asked we tell him "good" to him this means he is doing what we are asking, but not done yet. Then to release we take a step back and a then say the word "yes" to release Ziggy from the sit position and deliver a treat.

The first one is a sit, stay wait, second is recall, and loose leash walking

We have high expectation of our students, and they in turn depend on us to the not so glamorous jobs such as picking up poop, daily sanitation, and weekly heavy disinfecting. Possibly a good reminder to do a good cleaning of YOUR dogs home (crate, bed, room)! Happy cleaning! 😁

Last weeks big field trip was to Cabellas in Dundee! The pups had fun and got lots of loves with some great training around distractions.
