I"m still in disbelief that this is finally done and AMAZING! 5000 pounds of salt and no more need to water the arena, no dust, awesome sponge-like footing, so soft and easy to walk on. Thank you to everyone who came to hand spread 100 bags of mag flakes and clean out the storage room to store the rest. I really was shocked when I walked in Monday to see these results!

Enjoyed spending with our boarders celebrating the holidays and making raku horsehair pottery ornaments! Tucked all the horses in and prepared as best as we could. Crossing our fingers that the next two days are just cold and uneventful!

If anyone has time Monday morning to come out to the barn to help, we need to remove the fencing around the outdoor arena so it is ready for grading and new footing! We plan to start at 9am and will see how much we can get done in 2-3 hours. Extra drills would be great!! PLEASE AND THANK YOU!!!!

One of the coolest things about therapy at a barn is that being on a horse is a "typical" thing that siblings and friends also do! Rather than being at a clinic, Olivia does therapy while her brother Jamison also rides! So fun!!

FRIDAY FOOTING FUND!! All donations today will help us replace the footing in the arena where we do therapy so it is safer and more comfortable for the clients, horses and volunteers!! Soft, low-dust footing is very important. Over time the sand particles break down and become dusty which is not good for our clients, especially those with respiratory issues. It also allows the sand to pack down as the horses and volunteers walk on it. So we have to replace the sand every few years! We have 4 loads coming next week but it is pricey right now! PLEASE donate to help us cover the costs without affecting our scholarship and horse care budgets!!

A couple of us are ordering and we can get a group discount with 4 so if anyone is interested in learning more let me know! The girls said they were light and comfy. Allison got to be blown up and said it made her feel very safe (take that Cairo)!
Definitely a worthwhile investment!

BEATS, Inc has been a leader in promoting the use of incorporating horses in therapy for nearly two decades! We have taught and hosted courses through the American Hippotherapy Association to educate Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapists about the benefits of using horse movement as a treatment tool for their discipline. We have presented at various meetings and conferences from the local level to national events. We also have contracts with colleges and universities from Michigan to Florida to provide doctoral level PT interns as well as OT interns clinical education experience.

Many of our kiddos and their families are juggling 5+ therapies per week. While many hours of therapies are spent in clinics, BEATS provides therapy in a natural setting where clients get to interact with horses, peers and volunteers. Barn day is fun rather than a place of work, while still allowing kids to reap the benefits of evidence based therapy.

This is Forst, a Norwegian Fjord, who at 34 years old is the leader of BEATS’ equine partners! He has been with BEATS for over 15 years! We now have 16 horses that range in age, height, size, movement and temperament to meet the varied needs of our clients. Once a horse is a part of the BEATS’ team they are given the highest level of care and a home through their retirement. We owe it to them for the services they provide our kids; but as they age, they have more health needs which is our biggest challenge financially. ALL DONATIONS TODAY WILL SPECIFICALLY GO TOWARD CARING FOR OUR HORSES!

Cam is a determined 6-year-old whose goal is to walk, maybe even run, so he can play sports like his big brother! Adding hippotherapy (the use of horse movement) has had a tremendous impact on his progress! He comes for this therapy twice a week and is the hardest worker!
