We see many rattlesnake bites - especially this time of year! Be sure to follow these tips to protect your pets!

🐍 Keep an eye on your pet when they are roaming the yard. Discourage your pet from sniffing in tall grass or under rocks as this is where snakes gravitate towards.

🐍 Keep your pet on a short leash on walks.

🐍 Consider the Rattlesnake Vaccine (ask Dr. Buntain or Dr. Lackie if your pet is a good candidate!)

🐍 Consider specialized rattlesnake aversion training if your pet is in snaky situations often.

Like people, dogs can stumble upon a snake by accident. Your dog’s curiosity or protective instinct can put them at further risk.

Vaccines work by stimulating an animal’s immunity to help defend against potentially harmful agents. The Rattlesnake Vaccine is intended to help create an immunity to protect your dog against the effects of western diamondback rattlesnake venom. Even after your dog is vaccinated against rattlesnake venom, he or she should be taken to a veterinarian for evaluation and care as soon as possible following the snakebite.

March 2025: Meet Luna! Luna is a 3 year old Klee Kai who loves to look good but is particular about her nails trims. She gets that tickle feeling on her feet during her mani - pedi. You know the feeling... it can make you squirm! As part of our Fear Free practices, Luna was prescribed a medication that involves the reduction of feelings of stress which in return results in a better experience for her. She *almost* doesn’t mind coming in now - as long as there’s treats! We sure do enjoy spoiling her when she comes in!

Our pets can't tell us when their mouths are sore or if they're feeling dental pain - but they often show us through their behavior.

Keep an eye out for these common signs of dental issues:

🦷 Bad Breath
🦷 Difficulty chewing or dropping food
🦷 Excessive drooling
🦷 Red, swollen or bleeding gums
🦷 Visible tartar build-up
🦷 Pawing at the mouth
🦷 Behavioral changes, such as irritability

February 2025: Callie is the sweetest ol’ gal! She loves her dad and everyone she meets. Callie recently had some issues with her liver and gallbladder. We put together a treatment plan and prescribed a medication called Ursodiol for Callie. Ursodiol is used to treat chronic liver diseases and to prevent and attempt to dissolve gallstones in dogs and cats. Ursodiol restores healthy liver function by promoting regeneration of healthy liver tissue. We are happy to report that is on the mend and feeling better!

Please help us wish Lindsay a Happy Happy Birthday! 🎈

Lindsay is one of our sweet Veterinary Technicians!

Lindsay helps wherever she can around the clinic - taking care of routine appointments, assisting in surgery and even catching the phone when it’s ringing off the hook. Lindsay says she especially enjoys working with sick and hospitalized patients. She says it’s “because she loves taking care of the patient and seeing them get better for their families”. She really enjoys that extra one on one time with her patients. There really isn’t anything better than nursing a patient through an illness and watching the patient and parent light up when they are reunited and it’s time to go home. ❤️

Our Docs + Techs have been busy examining and cleaning all the teeth this month for National Pet Dental Month! 🦷

Here’s Lindsay assisting the Doctor with dental x-rays. 🫶

Cats + Dogs form what’s called “biofilm” on the surface of their teeth. Ew. Biofilm is an organized thin layer of bacteria that (if not removed) will harden into tartar. Ew.
The tartar allows infection to move below the gum line and around the teeth. Oh no. Now we have Periodontal Disease. This causes inflammation and infection. This can lead to pain, bad breath, tooth loss and even systemic health issues that affect organs like the kidney, liver and heart.

February is National Pet Dental Month! It’s a good reminder of the importance of dental care for our pets.

Did you know we perform dental x-rays before our dental cleanings?!

A dental x-ray can detect issues like cavities, tooth fractures, bone loss around the teeth, tooth root abscess, impacted teeth, cysts, tooth resorption and any abnormalities in the jaw bone structure. Many of these things can go undetected without the imaging and are often not visible during a regular oral exam.

Just like with us - early detection allows timely treatment and prevents further complications and pain for your pet.

Meet Charlie! Charlie is 15 weeks old. It was discovered recently that he has a heart murmur. A heart murmur is an extra heartbeat caused by a disturbance in blood flow. A veterinarian can detect a heart murmur using a stethoscope when they hear an abnormal whooshing sound in the heart. His mom is taking very good care to monitor his heart. Between his regular scheduled appointments here with us, Charlie also see's a doggo cardiologist to keep a close eye on his murmur for any changes. He is a lovable, happy pup who doesn't meet a stranger!
