We are sad to report that Fernando is back up for adoption and will need to be the only dog in the home. Although he prefers a home and space of his own without other animals, he still does well going on walks or public outings with other dogs around!

Unfortunately, being brought back to the shelter has taken a huge toll on his mental wellbeing. We are hoping to get him into at least a foster home asap, so that he does not continue to suffer with high levels of kennel stress. We will provide all necessary items when you foster, you just provide the home and love!

Meet Fernando!

A stunningly handsome fella that charms his way into stealing hearts of everyone around him!

This guy is a natural model waiting for his big break on the cover of ‘Doggo Monthly’! He’s the Fabio of the dog world, captivating everyone with just a tail wag and batting those vibrant eyes. Surprisingly, this bachelor is still on the hunt for his true love…. a home and family of his own! He loves long walks on the beach, leisurely strolls in nature, and picnics in the park. 😉

This fella is more than just a pretty face, he’s a brilliant pup with a keen mind! Although a very well mannered and medium energy good boy, there’s no denying that he does have tendencies commonly seen in huskies. He has an active mind that exhibits creativity and curiosity. To prevent his mind from wandering and sniffing out undesired adventures, he needs plenty of opportunities to engage in activities that challenge his intellect.

One of our amazing volunteers gave him a shelter break recently and had all good things to report! During his public outings, he was friendly and social with everyone, gentle with kids, and courteous to other dogs. He is potty trained and communicates his need to go out by standing at the door. He was even the perfect pooch during his hike with a large group of dogs and their hoomans!

His personality is wonderfully balanced with moments of play followed by cuddles and relaxation. Since he is young and playful, he enjoys zooming around the yard, tossing around toys, and going on hikes. When he’s not goofing off, he enjoys snuggling in the couch, laying in the grass feeling the warmth of the sun, going on car rides to get a pup cup, and hanging out at dog friendly establishments! Anytime he is in public, he is a true gentleman that is very well mannered and great on the leash.

Fernando is a husky mix that weighs about 60 pounds and is 1 year 6 months young. He is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on all his vaccines including heartworm prevention!

Meet Stryker!

Appropriately named for his striking good looks and inner beauty, this guy is a head turner and people gravitate toward him!

Those rich brindle colors of warmth and depth, eyes full of life, and a smile that radiates a gentle kindness are irresistible and draws you in for more. His handsome outer appearance is only the start of his true beauty, with an inner beauty that naturally shines bright in any situation!

Stryker carries himself with a confident and proud posture, but remains humble through his actions. He moves with an effortless grace, gentle curiosity, and a composed demeanor that naturally draws in attention. He is a perfect gentleman on the leash, staying close by and strutting with an appreciative stride and that adorable curly tail waving from side to side! He’s also incredibly well mannered with kids and loves getting their attention.

Adding to his charm, he seems potty trained and mostly just waits around patiently until someone gives him attention. We do catch glimpses of him being silly in his kennel and it warms our heart to witness such a happy and innocent soul enjoy the little things in life! Sometimes he wants a better view of the shelter and chooses to sit on top of his house to watch everything happening around him. Every once in a while he has so much fun tossing around a stuffed toy that he magically makes it snow…. then embraces the new cloud like bed he made!

He has a wonderfully balanced personality with playful and silly moments accompanied by relaxing good manners. He enjoys running and getting the zoomies in a yard, splashing in a kiddie pool, playing fetch with plush toys, and wrestling with his people. However, spending the day at the lake splashing in and out of the water amplifies his love of life and showcases his lively personality! Once he’s had a little bit of fun, he’s ready to snuggle on the couch and embrace the love of his family.

Stryker does greatly enjoy running and rough housing with other dogs! However, his enthusiasm to play can be a bit much for other dogs. He hasn’t quite figured out how to dial back his initial excitement, but has made some improvements during his time at the shelter. Unfortunately, he is not cat friendly with indoor or outdoor cats and needs a cat free home.

He will make for the perfect companion for anyone looking for a sidekick to join them on adventures! His friendly demeanor and calm assurance would be make for an easy bridge to social interactions amongst introverts. He’s a natural when it comes to making friends and creating a comfortable space, leading you to opportunities of new friendships! His gentle enthusiasm for meeting new people and experiencing new adventures would enhance an extroverts busy lifestyle! Every social interaction would feel like a celebration with Stryker working the crowd to create unforgettable moments of joy and laughter. No matter the home or lifestyle, he will be a loyal, loving, and comforting companion for one lucky family!

Stryker is an American Staffordshire Terrier mix that weighs 50 pounds and is approximately 1 year 4 months old. He is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on all vaccines including monthly heartworm prevention!

If you have visited Canyon Lake Animal Shelter Society anytime in the last 14 months since the new board and staff took over, you may have seen this poster on our wall. We call them our OG's. These were the dogs that had been sitting at the shelter. Some for a short time, some for a long time and one that didn't even have a name. They were our motivation to right a wrong. We wanted to show them that there was more in life than all the chaos that surrounded them on a daily basis.
As time went on, and more adopted stickers were added to their pictures, we knew that we must be doing something right! It was such a surreal moment watching Cleo walk out the door, knowing she was our last OG adoption!

We have had a lot of dogs come in and out, but these 23 will always hold a special place at the shelter!

Thank you to all the families who chose to give these dogs a second chance! We appreciate all of you ❤️

Meet the Belcher daughters, Tina and Louise!

Tina and Louise are ready for their own, separate, forever homes!

These girls are as fun and sweet as their adorable puppy faces! Bursting with love and happiness, they are ready to make you smile and laugh daily. They are well socialized with a variety of dog sizes and play styles, as well as one nice and one grumpy cat! They are doing amazingly well with potty training, just a few accidents here and there, and are kenneled trained. When it’s time to go into their kennels, they happily prance in and sit as they wait for either a meal or treat. Both girls know sit and are learning to stay put as they wait their turn for their goodies! Their intelligence and eagerness to learn and please will make the transition into a forever home a breeze.

Although extremely cute with innocent looks, they are active puppies that love to run, play, chew, eat, sleep, and repeat! They can be quite rambunctious at times and need a fenced in yard where they can get the zoomies, splash in a kiddie pool, and run and play until their hearts are content! To keep their mischief to a minimum, they would greatly benefit from having another dog or two to keep them entertained.

Louise is a super soft, adorable, and cuddly puppy that LOVES getting tons of attention. When cuddling on the couch, she can be demanding and does not understand personal space when asking for lovies. If she can’t hop into your lap but really wants pets, she melts to the ground and rolls onto her back for chest and belly scratches. She is a busy body that has a hard time sitting still for long. Even during cuddle time, she is wiggling around, pawing, and licking because she is that excited to get attention and never wants it to end! Besides soaking up all the pets, her idea of fun is hopping on and off the couch with a toy as she tries to get other dogs to play. She enjoys playing with toys, especially participating in a game of tug, but loses interest in the toy quickly and mostly just wants attention. She tends to be the follower of the two girls, often tagging along with her sister for the next adventure or puppy shenanigans. She’d greatly benefit from having an adult dog to help teach her how to be the bestest girl.

Tina is an athletic puppy that’s always up for new adventures when she’s not crawling all over you for lovies. She enjoys being outdoors where she can take in all the smells, feel the grass between her toe beans, and run and jump as if she’s training for the Olympics. Her athleticism is adorable at times, like when she jumps up and kicks as if she’s a baby goat! However, her curiosity and overly brave personality often leads her to being bored and seeking out her own adventures. She does need an active family that will provide her with lots of mental and physical stimulation. She would even love to learn and participate in agility sporting! Just like her sister, she is a busy body with tons of excitement that doesn’t allow her to sit still for long. She is also really cuddly and loves affection, but would rather you engage her in an activity of some sort.

Tina and Louise are possible Border Collie mixes that currently weigh 20 pounds and are 5 months old. They are expected to be medium to large sized once full grown. Both are spayed, microchipped, and up to date on all vaccines including monthly heartworm prevention!

Lambert has not had any interest, and he desperately needs out of the shelter! Not only is he becoming increasingly bored and tired of the same four walls, he also has an injured foot that isn’t healing. He needs to be in a home where he isn’t standing on concrete all day, and with someone that can clean and rewrap his foot daily.

At a minimum, we are looking for a temporary foster home until his foot is fully healed. We will provide all necessary items, you just provide the home, care, and love!

Meet Patch!

A real life teddy bear that wants to be hugged and cuddled all day!

Patch is the definition of a gentle giant with a calm, friendly, and incredibly affectionate personality. He craves humane affection and LOVES to be petted, hugged, snuggled, brushed or simply touched. He naturally draws people in with his pleading eyes, pouty facial expressions, and gentle mannerisms. Once the connection is made, he leans his entire pony sized body into you for more affection. He will even lay down and roll over for belly rubs, staying put for as long as he is getting attention!

Patch’s patience, tolerance, and calm demeanor toward kids makes him the perfect family companion! He remains calm and relaxed when interacting with kids, being just as laid back for them as he is with adults. He is a true gentleman that doesn’t jump and isn’t mouthy, just sits and soaks up all the attention! Since Patch thinks the world revolves around him, he wants all the people attention and isn’t fond of long interactions with other dogs. He will politely say hi to them in passing and coexist while the humans have a quick chat, but he has no interest in play. He does not do well with any cat, whether they are indoor or outdoors, and needs a cat free home.

Due to his constant need for companionship, Patch would do best with someone that is home most of the time. He would make a wonderful companion for a retired couple that needs extra love and happiness in their life! He wouldn’t mind being with someone that works from home, as long as he gets to lay at your feet while you work. A slower paced lifestyle would be ideal since he mostly wants long naps on the couch, a few walks and hops about the backyard, and lots of quality time with his family. Every once in a while his lazy nature is livened up with an adorable attempt at zoomies, rolling around playing with a stuffed toy, or fluffing up and rearranging his blankets. These moments are sure to bring a smile to your face and remind you of the simple things in life!

Patch is always a go to for new volunteers wanting to start with an easy dog, since he is infectiously friendly and a charm on the leash! Well, he does like to lean into you as you walk him, but he doesn’t pull or jump around. He just wants to have that human connection and encourages you to continuously pet him. Adding to his charm and good manners, Patch already seems potty trained!

Patch is a Mastiff mix that weighs a whopping 106 pounds and is approximately 2 years old. He is neutered, microchipped, heartworm negative, and up to date on all vaccines including monthly heartworm prevention!

Meet Chrissy!

A young and beautiful gal determined to not let her unfortunate troubling past put a damper on her zest for life! Her playful personality will warm your heart and fill your days with laughs and smiles.

We aren’t sure what Chrissy’s past looks like, but we do suspect she endured significant trauma that may haunt her for the rest of her life. She was found begging for help at a gas station that was next to a busy highway. She was underweight, her skin was a mess, and her eyes were full of pain and desperation, yet everyone just ignored her pleas for help. Thankfully, her finder loaded her up and showed her kindness for what seems like the first time in her life.

Although she has a beautiful soul and charming personality, there are residual fears from her past. She is sensitive to raised voices and negative energy, cowering in fear with eyes full of worry about what’s to come next. New situations can be scary and overwhelming, causing her to be shy and cautious. Gentle pets and positive words of encouragement help her relax enough to explore and begin enjoying the new experience. She also has an intense fear of getting bathed, more so than the average dog that protests bath time. Her foster mom learned that using a bucket of water and towel to rinse her off causes the least amount of stress. Despite her troubled past and ongoing quirkiness, Chrissy has a loving, loyal, and playful personality that shines when given time, patience, and positivity! She deserves a gentle and understanding home that will be kind and patient to allow her charming and silly personality to flourish.

Her boundless energy, enthusiasm, and lively personality keeps her on the lookout for the next great adventure. She is always eager to accompany her foster mom on their morning and evening mile long outdoor escapade! She’s the ultimate walking companion that is a charm on the leash and radiates a joyful presence. Chrissy needs a home and family that can match her boundless energy to keep her spirits high and the mischief to a minimum. This girl may be petite, but she is very athletic and may seek adventures on her own if she isn’t mentally and physically stimulated.

She loves other canine companions and wonderfully adjusts her play style depending on the size, age, and energy level of other dogs! She would thrive best in a home with another playful and energetic doggy friend that also likes to run, rough house, and play tug. Although she doesn’t seem to want to harm a cat, she is rough and chases them any chance she gets. So, she would not be ideal for a cat that isn’t fond of dogs and runs away from them.

Chrissy’s foster parents have done an amazing job preparing her for her forever home and report that she’s potty and crate trained! They say that Chrissy is intelligent and has the potential to learn so much with a little patience and consistency. Chrissy is thankful they allow her on the couch, because she enjoys lounging and watching tv with the family. She even gives little gentle kisses to show her appreciation! She accompanies her foster mom to work occasionally and is always on her best behavior, usually just napping in the office ignoring the hustle and bustle happening beyond the room.

Chrissy is a petite pibble/terrier mix that weighs 38 pounds and is approximately 1 year old. She is spayed, microchipped, heartworm negative, and up to date on all vaccines including monthly heartworm prevention!

We want to give a huge thank you to Girl Scout Troup 5145! They have spent the last few weeks cleaning, cutting down limbs, moving rocks, and building 2 gazebos for our new shelter dog park! They even built some dog agility equipment! We are excited for volunteers and visitors to use this safe space for the dogs to run and get away from all the noise and to spend more one on one time with them!
They are having a grand opening this Saturday August 3rd from 12-2. Everyone is welcome to visit and see all the hard work they put in to make this happen!

Meet Whitney Houston!

A petite lady packed full of love, cuddles, and kisses! She has a soft and comforting soul that will make her a true, loyal friend for life.

Whitney has overcome a challenging start to life, but she doesn’t let her past prevent her from living life to the fullest! She was one of 40 dogs rescued from a hoarding case where they roamed freely in an unsanitary house, yard, and sometimes the streets. One day the owner packed up and left, not caring what happens to the animals. Despite her past, she is not the typical unsocialized dog you might expect. She has an incredibly friendly, social, and affectionate personality that will put a smile on your face even on your grumpiest of days!

It’s impossible to resist her soft and kind comfort as she climbs into your lap and gives joyful yet gentle kisses. You’ll never feel alone as she will always be there to cuddle away your worries and kiss away your fears! Her affectionate nature knows no bounds and she loves both adults and children just the same.

Overall, she is an easy going girl that prefers a slower paced life to allow time to soak in the beauty of her life. However, she does have some s***k in her and gets bursts of happy and playful energy. It’s adorable watching her run around the yard flashing a delightful and joyous smile.

She greatly enjoys making new canine friends, approaching them with a calm and friendly demeanor. Her play time doesn’t last very long, but she ensures she gets as much out of the fun and games as she can! She loves to chase or be chased, darting around as if she doesn’t have a care in the world. Sometimes her little legs can’t keep up, but that doesn’t stop her from having fun as she knows she’ll get there eventually! She doesn’t seem overly interested in toys, but occasionally likes to play with those that have a squeaker. Her sister usually takes her toys and she never makes a fuss about it.

She loves taking strolls through nature at a leisurely pace. Her curiosity leads her to investigating the wonders of the world, taking in the smells, sights, and sounds of her environment. Her leash walking skills are phenomenal, making her the perfect companion for peaceful and easy going outings!

Whitney Houston is a possible dachshund/lab mix that weighs 30 pounds and is approximately 4 years old. She is spayed, microchipped, heartworm negative, and up to date on all vaccines including monthly heartworm prevention!

Celine Dion!

A delightful gal with an immense love of fun and games! There’s an infectious happiness radiating from her as she joyfully plays, runs, and hops about as if she’s dancing.

Celine has overcome a challenging start to life, but she doesn’t let her past prevent her from living life to the fullest! She was one of 40 dogs rescued from a hoarding case where they roamed freely in an unsanitary house, yard, and sometimes the streets. One day the owner packed up and left, not caring what happens to the animals. Despite her past, she is not the typical unsocialized dog you might expect. Sure, she can be a bit shy at first, but she warms up very quickly! A few encouraging words and gentle pets is all it takes to kickstart a bond that will grow stronger each day. It only takes a few days for her to begin a beautiful transformation into a playful, silly, and affectionate girl.

This girl is a master of making new canine friends, and becomes a lively and playful character during play dates! She approaches every dog with a playful spirit and gently engages them to a game a chase. Once the fun has been initiated, Celine darts around with an added cuteness of delightful hops as she takes turns being the chaser to the chased. She isn’t always graceful with her movements, occasionally jumping into her friends as she comically attempts to jump over them. Even getting knocked over doesn’t end the party for her, she just gets up and continues with the fun. Adding to her charm, she loves squeaking and tossing around toys! She will run gleefully with a toy clutched in her mouth, eyes gleaming with mischief, and enticing others to join in on the fun.

She does amazing with kids and enjoys running and playing with them too! The more the merrier when it comes to living life to the fullest during play time! However, she would do best in a home without cats, as she tends to bark at and chase them.

She is not yet potty trained, but is making great progress. Most days she holds it until she can get out, but still has occasional accidents. She does amazingly well on a leash considering she had never been exposed to one prior to arriving to our facility. Every once in a while she will stop out of confusion about the leash, but a pat on the leg and gentle words of encouragement gets her going again. Although she has limitless energy when playing with other dogs, she does appreciate cuddle time. She will happily sprawl out on the floor, snuggle up to you on the couch, or take over the bed as she recharges for the next adventure!

Cellini Dion is a dachshund/terrier mix that weighs 28 pounds and is approximately 3 years old. She is spayed, microchipped, heartworm negative, and up to date on all vaccines including monthly heartworm prevention!

Trixie has an opportunity to be adopted out of state, but needs a foster home as she awaits transport! She gets spayed tomorrow, July 25th, and needs a foster home for a few weeks starting Friday, July 26th.

Trixie would do best in a home with larger dogs, as she is super bossy towards smaller ones. She is a princess that expects to be spoiled rotten and is packed full of silly shenanigans!

The moment we’ve all been waiting for has finally come…. CLEO HAS BEEN ADOPTED!!!

After 1 year and 6 months (553 days) at the shelter, Cleo finally has a home and family that is providing her the love and attention she deserves. Thank you Mr. Etier for choosing to adopt a second CLASS dog, we couldn’t ask for a better home for them!!

Cleo lived her entire life at the shelter, being passed over day after day as she watched countless other dogs get homes. Sadly, she was so comfortable at the shelter and in her kennel that she was scared and weary of new places and people. Two of our amazing volunteers, Tracey and Kristi, were determined to help us help Cleo get her happily ever after. These ladies devoted countless hours loving, socializing, and networking Cleo until her adoptive dad found her! Thank you ladies for everything you did to help Cleo on her journey.

Happy tails Cleo, we look forward to many years of updates with you in your HOME WITH YOUR FAMILY!! 🐾🐾❤️

Meet Lambert!

A handsome and happy puppy that is always flashing a charming smile. His happy go lucky personality will bring an abundance of laughter and joy into your life!

Lambert’s friendly demeanor and cheerful spirit will make for the best companion to accompany you through life’s journey. It’s impossible to watch his silly puppy antics without smiling. Although he seems close to being full grown, he still hasn’t fully mastered balance and movement with those lanky legs. His adorable clumsiness, goofy facial expressions, and head-tilted smiles will fill you with joy and light the darkest of days.

Not only is he great with people and kids, he also gets along wonderfully with dogs of all sizes and play styles! He hasn’t been around cats much, but has been scared of the few he has met. In a home, he most likely would open up to a feline friend and want to play.

He has a well balanced personality with a mix of playfulness and relaxation! He enjoys running and playing with people and other dogs, splashing in the pool, and just being a silly puppy, but also knows how to enjoy a lazy afternoon napping near his people. After a few rounds of play with his shelter doggie friends, he patrols the yard then lays down in the pool to watch and observe what’s happening around him.

Walks around the neighborhood will be pleasant and enjoyable since he is a gentleman on the leash! He sometimes jumps on people when first meeting them, but takes well to correction and has great potential to learn all the good manners. He would make for a great sidekick to accompany you on any dog friendly adventure. Whether it’s a quick car ride, a pup cup at your favorite coffee shop, a trip to the lake, or a visit to a dog-friendly restaurant, Lambert is always eager and grateful for any time spent with his favorite people!
