🚨 Emergency Visit Highlight! 🐶🦴

This sweet girl is Maggie, an 18-month-old Labrador who came to see us today after getting a beef bone stuck around her lower jaw. Luckily, she was such a good girl that we were able to safely remove it without needing sedation!

While Maggie is back to her happy, tail-wagging self, this is a good reminder that bones—especially cooked or processed ones—can be dangerous for dogs. They can get stuck like Maggie’s did, splinter and cause internal injuries, or lead to broken teeth and intestinal blockages.

If you’re ever unsure about what’s safe for your pup to chew on, we’re always here to help! 🐾❤️

‼️ Confirmed Rabbit Death from RHDV2 in Douglas County, OR – 4/14/2025 ‼️
The Oregon Department of Agriculture has confirmed a case of Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease Virus 2 (RHDV2) in a domestic rabbit here in Douglas County.

🐰 What to Watch for in Rabbits (Domestic & Wild):

Sudden death with no warning signs

Fever, lethargy, or loss of appetite

Bleeding from the nose or mouth

Difficulty breathing or seizures

RHDV2 is highly contagious and affects both domestic and wild rabbits. It spreads through direct contact, contaminated surfaces (like food, cages, clothing, and hands), or even insects.

⚠️ If you notice multiple unexpected deaths in rabbits:
📞 Domestic rabbits: Contact the Oregon State Veterinarian
✉️ [email protected] | 📱 503-986-4711

📞 Wild rabbits/hares: Call the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife
📱 1-866-968-2600

Please help spread the word and protect our bunny friends—both at home and in the wild. 💔🐇

🦊 Rabies Confirmed Nearby – Keep Pets Protected 🐾

Five foxes in Josephine County have recently tested positive for rabies, including cases where people and pets were exposed. While we're not in that county, it's a good reminder that rabies is still present in our region — and vaccines are the best protection.

Wildlife that can carry rabies includes:
🦇 Bats (most common in Oregon)
🦊 Foxes
🦝 Raccoons
🦨 Skunks
🐺 Coyotes

💉 Vaccinate all dogs, cats (even indoor-only!), ferrets, and horses. Rabies is almost always fatal but 100% preventable with vaccination.

🚪 Secure your home and barns
👀 Report unusual wildlife behavior to Animal Control or ODFW
📞 Call us if you’re unsure whether your pet is up to date!

🌟 Wrapping Up National Vet Tech Week! 🌟

On this final day, we’re excited to celebrate Madison and Katie, two amazing Veterinary Assistants who help make our clinic a better place! 🐾

Madison is constantly upbeat and gives her all to make sure each patient gets the best care possible.

Katie brings kindness and care to every pet she meets, always going the extra mile to ensure their comfort and well-being—though we couldn’t quite snap a photo of her in action!

Thank you both for your hard work and dedication! 💚
