Tuesday evening, CCAS director of operations Melanie Waite participated in Pace Center for Girls, Lee “Funky Fashion Show.”

Melanie’s dress was made completely out of recycled dog and cat food bags. She fashioned a necklace out of ribbon and dog tags. Her purse was made out of the shelter pups favorite snack, puperoni!

There were so many unique dresses from many different organizations!

🏆 Melanie’s dress won “People’s Choice!”

💇‍♀️ Hair was generously styled by Megan Kennedy at Station 19. Megan has been doing Melanie's unique and colorful hair for over 10 years!

💋Make up was done by Liset Vega.

Thank you Pace Center for Girls for inviting us to participate in such a fun and fulfilling event!

🐾Did you know? At Cape Coral Animal Shelter (CCAS), our staff and dog handlers work on basic training and enrichment with our dogs! 🐾

Here's why:

Basic training and enrichment activities are vital for the well-being and adoptability of our dogs. These efforts help improve their manners, reduce stress, and enhance their mental and physical health. By teaching commands and providing stimulating activities, we prepare our dogs for successful transitions into their forever homes. Our goal is to ensure every dog is happy, well-behaved, and ready for their new family. Together, let's give our furry friends the best start possible! 🐶🎓❤️

Monday morning we made our final visit this year to the City of Cape Coral Summer Youth Program.

We visited the children at the Four Freedom Parks program. The children had a great time seeing the puppies and the puppies had a blast as well.

This visit puts us at over 400 youth visited this summer for the City of Cape Coral. We appreciate them for including us in their program and allowing us to give back.

🌟 Meet RC: The Super Senior Sweetheart in Need of a Forever Home!🌟

Hello, wonderful friends, family and faithful village members! We have a very special furry friend who needs your help to find his forever home. Meet RC, a super senior dog who is as sweet as can be!

RC is a gentle soul who has faced some challenges with grace and resilience. Due to cataracts, RC had to have his eyes removed, but don't worry—this hasn't changed a thing for him! RC was already hard of sight, so he gets around just fine and adapts wonderfully to his surroundings.

Despite his age and limited hearing, RC's heart is full of love and he's incredibly easy-going. He gets along famously with other dogs and even cats, making him a perfect addition to a multi-pet household. His chill demeanor makes him the ideal companion for anyone looking for a calm and loving friend.

RC is looking for a loving home where he can enjoy his golden years surrounded by kindness and comfort. If you or someone you know is ready to open their heart and home to this sweet boy, please reach out. Let's give RC the loving forever home he truly deserves! 💕

🐾 Interested in Adopting RC? 🐾
Call us at 239-573-2002 or email us at [email protected] to learn more about this amazing dog and how you can make him a part of your family.

Happy Hump day! Here at CCAS we are celebrating making it halfway through the week with this heartwarming kitty update.

“Hello,

We renamed Honor & Bunny because their personalities came out very quickly. Honor hid first behind the dryer and after 4 1/2 hours of trying to locate him, moving every piece of furniture, we finally found him under and behind our dresser. His new name became Houdini.

Once he started coming out around us, he loved getting petted and being brushed. Bunny was so jealous of him that her new name is Jelly, Jelly belly, Jellyroll etc.

They made the trip back to Michigan in our RV and have become pretty good travelers. Jelly is the larger female and when I feed them canned food she will start eating her food and push him out of the way to start on his bowl so now I feed him separately in another room.

She is a bully to him but they get along great and are always close together. They love looking outside and even have a small bunny visit them by the back door nearly every day.

We love them very much and are thankful we found them. Thank you for making that possible.”

Peaches has been trained to ride in a carry pouch and go into doctor appointments, stores, and loves to ride in the car. She is taking her first airplane ride this summer. Peaches loves blueberries and even when blueberry picking with her sun hat.

🌟 Thinking of Adopting a Kitten? Consider Adopting Two! 🌟

If you're contemplating bringing a furry friend into your home, adopting a kitten is a fantastic choice. But did you know that adopting them in pairs is even better? Here's why:

1. 😺 Companionship and Socialization: Kittens are highly social animals. When they have a sibling or a fellow kitten to interact with, they learn important social skills like playing without biting, sharing, and grooming each other. This helps them grow into well-adjusted adult cats.

2. 💪 Entertainment and Exercise: Two kittens can entertain and exercise each other. They’ll chase, pounce, and wrestle, which keeps them physically active and mentally stimulated. This means they’re less likely to get bored and develop behavioral issues.

3. 🫂 Emotional Support: The transition to a new home can be stressful for a kitten. Having a familiar companion can ease this transition, providing comfort and reducing anxiety. This makes the adjustment period smoother for both the kittens and you.

4. 🙈 Lower Risk of Destructive Behavior: Single kittens can become lonely and might resort to scratching furniture, climbing curtains, or other destructive behaviors. With a buddy, they're more likely to engage in constructive play rather than seeking out trouble.

5. 🩺 Health Benefits: Kittens that grow up together tend to be healthier. They encourage each other to stay active and help each other burn off energy, which can lead to healthier physical development.

6. 👥 Lifelong Bond: Adopting two kittens at the same time can create a lifelong bond between them. Watching their relationship grow is not only heartwarming but also beneficial for their overall well-being.

While it may seem like more work, the benefits of adopting two kittens far outweigh any potential drawbacks. Double the kittens, double the love! 🐾❤️

🌟 All our available kittens can be viewed on our website, www.capecoralanimalshelter.com OR you can stop by the shelter any day we are open to meet them in person. No appointment is needed to visit our kitties.

Thursday we continued our commitment to the City of Cape Coral Summer Youth Programs with another on site visit.

The children learned about what we do and got a full tour of our shelter. At the end of the tour we set up a play date with some of our puppies.

There were laughs, smiles and excitement from all of the children and our puppies loved the attention as well.@

🐾 Did you know? Since opening our doors, The Cape Coral Animal Shelter (CCAS) has taken in and provided treatment for 144 heartworm-positive dogs to date! 🐾

Heartworm disease is a serious and prevalent issue here in Southwest Florida. It only takes one mosquito bite to infect a dog, making year-round prevention crucial. At CCAS, we've seen dogs of all ages, from just 1 year old to 11 years old, affected by this disease. But there's hope!

We cover the full cost of heartworm treatment for all of our adopted dogs when you use our clinic. Our mission is to ensure every furry friend has a chance at a healthy, happy life in their forever home. 💖

Protect your dog from this preventable disease by keeping them on heartworm prevention medication all year round. Don't wait – reach out to our clinic today to schedule an appointment and get started on heartworm prevention.

📞 Contact us at 239-573-2002 ext. 106 to learn more and make an appointment with our affordable care clinic. Let's work together to keep our dogs safe and heartworm-free! 🐶💚

There we passed out dog and cat food to those in need and signed up qualified pet owners for free spay/neuter.
