At K-9 Outcast, we strive to build a stronger bond between trainer and dog. We teach basic and advanced obedience that couples with socialization.

Amazing Saturday class! We practiced our primary heel, secondary heel, reverse primary heel, reverse secondary heel, through and guard. Teaching our dogs to not only be forward and focus but face backwards and focus! We strive to have our dogs conditioned in all situations.

Spent some time working on our Auto-Sit! Every team we had this weekend successfully escaped getting struck by an imaginary car.

We practice an Auto-Sit for situations where we need to stop on short notice. If our dog is with us, and we stop, we want the dog to stop.

This weekend we are focused on how to get our dog into positions and why they are important.

A good heel (both primary and secondary) keep your dog focused on you instead of distractions while walking.
A front is a good position for focus and to get the dog geared up with a collar and leash.
Auto sit can save your dog when you have to make a sudden stop while crossing the street.
Changing from primary to secondary heel can help you and your dog navigate crowds safely or keep your dog away from other dogs while walking in close proximity.
A motion sit or down can place our dog into a stationary position while we walk ahead and handle something or greet someone we don't want our dog around.

Help Wanted!

We are hosting a trunk or treat for our martial arts studio. We are looking for people to decorate their vehicle trunk and pass out candy. If anyone is interested in decorating please send us a message!

The event is October 27th from 5pm to 8pm. Setup begins around 4pm! Feel free to bring some candy to pass out or anything else you would like to hand out!

We are a little biased. We much prefer dogs over dealing with most people. As a matter of fact, most of the people we get along with are also dog people!

We are focusing a lot on our positions and our auto-sit.

Next week we will be testing our pups on a different level. We are going to have them do some things with noise to see if they can work through distractions.

We worked a lot on the difference between basic, intermediate and advanced obedience.

Basic or Beginner Ovedience: starting from the very beginning. Either a new dog or a puppy that has no training. We lure the dog and mark the dog with rewards. We are teaching the dog a new command and imprinting the position with a word and marker or reward. Every single new command a dog learns makes them a beginner with that command.

Intermediate Obedience: the dog now knows the command and does not need to be lured into the correct position. We are polishing the dogs speed and sharpness. We are rewarding the dog only once they get into the position. We are still focused on the dog fully and may need to correct the dog or fix the dogs positioning. These dogs are not quite ready to be tested off leash with the new command.

Advanced Obedience: We don't need to be looking at our dog to ensure they do the command. If the dog does not listen, they get corrections. We do not need to use our hands for guidance and the dog will listen to complete verbal commands. We can have the dog do numerous commands and reward randomly. The dog will work through distractions.

Yes there is a lot more that goes into each stage of training. These are just the basics of each level and what we look for in determining which handler is responsible for which level.

Such a fun night! A few of us met at Rumrunners for dinner and had a blast with our pups! They got their own dinner as we ate, and no one had any issues! Can't wait for our next outing in October!

This beautiful baby is ready for the week! He was sooo excited for his first training session and we are so excited to see him again this weekend!!

The start of learning how to balance, focus and conquer fears. Amazing beginning of adding more agility to training!

Something was up with all the dogs this past weekend. Enjoy some amazing fails!

Started teaching our pups how to heel backwards! It is important to note: When teaching anything new, take it slow, don't get frustrated, and have fun! Heeling backwards has the same command as heeling forward. Heel is a position, so they should stay in a heel regardless of forward, backwards or sideways walking.

We train our dogs while sitting? Why would we do that? Here's why! 1. Dogs are primarily visual, we don't want to have to stand, every time we tell our dog to do something. 2. We take pur dogs out in public. Our dogs know how to act at food establishments. 3. A very great bonding experience, while doing new and different things with our dogs. 4. The extraordinary focus we gain while working our dogs from a chair.

Why do we teach an AutoSit? Here are some main reasons! 1. If you are about to cross the street and you stop, your dog will not continue and risk being hut by a car. 2. Teaches the dog to walk with you, rather than in front of you or behind you. 3. Enhances the amount of focus the dog needs to have on the handler, in order to recognize the handler has stopped.

Want to know what these Outcasts love? We love heeling! We love being able to work our dogs without standing! We love spending quality time with our dogs! We love being able to bring our dogs outside with us! We love having fun with our dogs! We love training!

We had a private yesterday who is working towards her AKC certification test. We have only been working with her team for 2 weeks. The amount of work this team puts in is outstanding. We are so pleased to have the privilege to work with such an amazing team. We cannot wait to see them succeed in their AKC testing. If anyone else is looking to get into any form of competition with their dog, we are full AKC certified!

This Sunday was full of amazing training! Heeling, about turns, recalls, seated commands and so much more. We love how well our teams can perform both standing and seated!

February has been amazing so far! Let's see how much work we can get done in March! We are blessed to be able to work with some of the best behaved dogs in Lee County! Keep up the great work. We have so many new things to teach all of you!
