Howdy, folks! 🎸 It’s me, Merle, your favorite Dogs Inc puppy in training! This Halloween, I got to hit the town Haggard style—yep, I went trick-or-treating dressed as my namesake, Merle Haggard! With a mini cowboy hat, bandana, and a whole lotta swagger, I was ready to show off my skills while collecting treats (and a whole lotta smiles).
Halloween was the paw-fect training experience! All the different sights, sounds, and people in costumes gave me a chance to practice my manners and stay calm in crowds. Even with the hustle and bustle, I kept my cool, didn’t get spooked, and even ignored a few tempting treats on the ground. 🦴 (Though I did give my best puppy eyes for one or two 😉).
Hope y’all had a safe and spooky Halloween! Can’t wait to keep learning and growing with every adventure. 🎶

🐾 It's time for your Merle Moment, my friends! 🐾
This weekend was pawsitively awesome! I got to hang out with the famous Calendar Girls Florida! 🎉 These ladies are so cool—they are a dance troop made up of all women over the age of 50, who put on shows and raise money for Dogs Inc. to train service pups like me. 🐶💪
The Calendar Girls do all kinds of fun performances, and have made it their mission to help people like US veterans with PTSD and those who are visually impaired. How amazing is that?! 🙌
I got lots of belly rubs (my fave) and even learned a few new dance moves. 🕺 Who knows, maybe I'll be the next star of the show!? 🌟🐾
Big thanks to the Calendar Girls for being pawsome supporters of Dogs Inc.! I’m so lucky to have them in my corner.

🚨 HURRICANE MILTON ALERT 🚨
As Hurricane Milton has now reached Category 5, we want to ensure our community is prepared and that your pets remain safe during this critical time.
Key Tips for Pet Safety:
🐾 Make sure your pets are wearing ID tags and have updated microchip information. Many local shelters require up to date vaccines. Make sure you have necessary vaccination record paperwork with you as well.
🐾 Stock up on pet food, water, and any necessary medications for at least 7 days.
🐾 If your pet suffers from anxiety during storms, contact us about prescription anxiety medications.
🐾 Create a safe, secure space indoors for your pets during the storm. Never leave them outside.
🐾 Have a pet emergency kit ready, including a leash, carrier, litter, and comfort items.
If you need any assistance or advice on how to protect your pets during this hurricane, please don’t hesitate to call us. We’re here to help!
We will be open regular hours on 10/7 and 10/8. We are expected to open sometime later this week, however, depending on the outcome of the storm, our opening hours may vary. Please check back for updates.

Merle: "I'm in my spooky era!" 🎃👻💀 "Happy October, everybody!"

🐾 October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month 🐾
Did you know that breast cancer doesn't just affect humans? Our pets are at risk too, especially female dogs and cats. Mammary gland tumors are one of the most common cancers in female pets, and early detection is key! 🎀
Here are a few important tips for pet owners:
🩺 Spaying your pet can greatly reduce the risk of mammary cancer, especially when done before their first heat cycle.
🐶 Check regularly for lumps: Be proactive about checking your dog or cat’s abdomen for any unusual lumps or changes.
🐱 Annual vet visits: Regular check-ups can catch problems early! Don’t skip your pet’s annual exams.
🌸 Healthy lifestyle: Keeping your pet at a healthy weight with a balanced diet and exercise helps lower cancer risks.
📞 If you have concerns or notice anything unusual, don’t wait—schedule an appointment with us! Call us to schedule! (239) 574-9005

Hey friends, it’s Merle Moment time 🦕 and as most of you have probably heard, the Shell Factory, in North Fort Myers, has closed its doors for good. 😢 I may be a young pup, but even I know how special that place was to so many people (and their pets!)
The Shell Factory wasn’t just a store; it was a North Fort Myers treasure for over 80 years! 🐚✨ It started out as a seashell shop in the 1930s and became the place to find shells, gifts, and Florida memorabilia. But it was so much more than that—it had mini-golf, bumper boats, nature trails, and even a fun little animal park! 🐕💙
Over the years, it brought the whole community together. Families, tourists, and even service dogs in training, like me, made some paw prints around that ol' place. Now, the Shell Factory is closed, but the fun, love, and memories we made will live on in our hearts, fur-ever. I'm so glad I got to go before it closed it's doors, permanently!
The community sure will miss this ol' Florida treasure!
Have you ever been there? Share your favorite memories below—I’d love to hear them! 🐾💬

⚠️UPDATE⚠️
'Wolfgang' (formally 'Bear') is doing 👍GREAT👍 in his FURever home!! 🏠 L👀K at him RUN!! 🏃
He clearly ❤️loves❤️ his family and we are so happy to see 'Wolfgang' thriving with his crew... human and canine alike! #Update #HeartWarming #LookAtHimGo
'Bear', a Dutch Shepherd puppy, was brought into Santa Barbara Animal Hospital non-responsive, and after only a day of treatment, the original owners wanted to put him to sleep. Since he was so young, Dr. Alexander (the veterinarian/owner of the practice) wanted to give him a chance, and asked if they would be willing to surrender him. They were, and the clinic took ownership of little 'Bear' when he was just under 4 weeks old.
That was back in January. Since then, 'Bear' has had much done including: bloodwork, neuology exams, a spinal tap, and an MRI. Now that the scans are done, and the results are in, BEAR IS READY TO FIND HIMSELF A FOREVER HOME!!
The scans show that 'Bear' has a congenital malformation of one of the vertebra in his neck. This malformation caused an infarction (or an obstruction of blood flow) and caused young 'Bear' damage to the radial nerve in his left front leg. Bear's new family will have to make the eventual decision on whether or not it is in his best interest to amputate or keep it. A prosthesis, to help him better utilize his leg, is also an option for 'Bear' and his new family.
Because of this future and unavoidable expense of either an amputation surgery or a prosthesis fitting for 'Bear', Santa Barbara Animal Hospital will not be asking for a re-homing fee for this little guy. We just want 'Bear' to find himself a loving, caring, and VERY UNDERSTANDING family.
If you are interested in adopting little 'Bear' ... we would LOVE to talk to you, in detail, of what it takes to care for this precious boy, and what to possibly expect in the future. Please stop by Santa Barbara Animal Hospital, and ask for Brenna! 🙂
