Did you know:
If you have a pacemaker, you can put it in your Will to have your pacemaker donated to a dog in need after you pass. Pacemakers cannot be donated to another human, but they can be donated to dogs with cardiac issues who would depend on it to stay alive.
You can have the pacemaker brought to a vet of your choice. So many of those get thrown away and dogs die because people don't know they can do this. It even saves the dog's owner the cost of the actual pacemaker which sometimes means the difference in being able to afford lifesaving treatment or not.

We have had two of our rescue’s adopted dogs receive pacemakers to save their lives Kingsten and Binx !!

Water 911. I’ve gotten three calls this week for wildlife so dehydrated they collapsed in yards. I advised each person to set Water down. All three animals recovered without needing rehabilitation efforts. PLEASE set water out, shallow bowls up high and low, placed in shade near bushes or trees (to help stop predator attacks). Provide fresh water a minimum of three days a week to help wildlife survive this heat and dry weather

Dear Mom and Dad,
Let me stay home. It's not nice for me to walk and run next to you. But because I am a loyal dog, I often go beyond my limits. So I walk and run beside you, standing still if I have to. All while I feel my paws burning.

Even as little as 5 minutes can be fatal to me and to my paws. I sweat through my paws, and in the heat I just can not get rid of the sweat. My whole body starts boiling, but I’ll keep going because I am as loyal as loyal comes. When you look at me panting and moving around you think I’m excited to be out here walking or running with you and I am, I promise you I am, but it’s more that I can’t cool off and my feet are in severe pain. My paws are literally cooking.

By the time we have gotten home my paws have been burning the entire duration we were out, my tongue is dry and my head is pounding in the heat that my body cannot get rid of.

You know when you ask if I want to go for a walk or a run I will instantly jump up and want to go because I love you so much and I love these activities but I also don’t know what awaits me. I depend on you to know what’s in my best interest. So instead, let me stay at home where I can enjoy the sun, with a large bowl of water, somewhere in the shade. A cool area with grass would be best.

With all the love I have in the whole world - I give it all to you - Love your dog 🩷🐾

Lee County Domestic Animal Services reminds you that 70 degrees is too hot

Fort Myers, FL, March 6, 2024 – Now that the temperatures are warming up, Lee County Domestic
Services would like to remind pet owners that it is not safe to leave your furry friends alone in your
vehicle.
When temperatures reach 70 degrees it is too hot to leave them unattended in a car. In fact,
when it is just 81 degrees outside the temperature inside can soar to 138 degrees within minutes.

County Ordinance 14-22 Section 3-23 states: The owner or operator of a motor vehicle shall not place or
confine an animal, nor allow an animal to be placed or confined in an unattended motor vehicle without
sufficient ventilation or under conditions which may endanger the health or well-being of the animal due to
heat, lack of water or any other circumstances which may cause suffering, disability or death.

The best thing you can do is leave them comfortable at home. They will be waiting there when you arrive,
happy, healthy and wagging their tails.

For more information call 239-533-7387 (LEE-PETS) or visit www.LeeLostPets.com. Find Lee County
Domestic Animal Services’ social media sites on Facebook or Instagram .

The unfortunate truth of owning and running an animal rescue .
Running an animal rescue is really hard .Its a time of happiness and joy and then sadness and feeling hopeless when you feel you failed an animal even though you did everything possible to save
What they don’t tell you is that it can cause severe stress and anxiety, It drains you mentally to the point of depression in even the most laid-back people.
People will talk about you, compare you to others, use you, they will view you as a service and not a person anymore. They think you can fix any problem of a lost or abandoned pet because “you do rescue” when in reality I wish I could but am limited to space , donations are at an all time low and adoptions have come to almost a complete halt due to the economy and housing crisis
Friends and family will expect favor’s and people will value you and your hard work less than a big chain store even though you are small and have a heart of gold and would save every animal in a perfect world but the amount of animals being abandoned and failed daily there is no way possible and I do not see this changing at all in the near future
You have to worry about if you forget to email/message/call someone back because you are taking care of multiple animals every day and hour because you promised them safety and love even when you find out they dont get along with other animals and now that time to take outside is doubled or tripled to be sure everyone in the rescue is kept safe and you have to crate and rotate ..Did you disappoint the person you forgot to call back? Will they hold that against you or understand the animals and children in the home are needed to be cared for first? When in reality you just can’t get to everyone’s messages and emails at times in 24 hours
Starting up and running a successful rescue puts incredible strain on personal lives and relationships, many of which fail because there is just often no work and life balance. All whilst being a parent, a husband or a wife, family support, friend...
There’s a reason you don’t see many people succeed in rescue after 5-10 years. If they are successful they are overwhelmed. It takes a toll on yourself and your fanily. It’s physically and emotionally exhausting. Especially the past couple of years when so much has been out of our control.
Here’s a small reminder please remember that we are just normal people with hectic lives and going though life with iur own personal struggles while trying to keep saving animals. Be kind, be patient, support small dog and cat rescues..many of us do not receive grants or large donations from businesses or individuals yet struggle daily to pay the medical vetting , daily food and medications for those we have promised to never fail again and hopefully more of us will stick around!
If you would like to support our animals please take a moment to donate any amount to our paypal the animals and I appreciate your continued support
