This weekend we lost a friend. Atticus has been coming to visit us at daycare for about 3 years, & we consider ourselves so lucky to have met this gentle giant. Big dog or small, Atticus loved them all. He was pretty lazy most of the time, but he loved being included nonetheless. Sometimes when his group would get running, he would walk in between them & wag his tail slowly, as if making sure they knew that although he wasn’t going to run, he appreciated being a part of the fun with them. His sister Mollie was always looking out for him (unless she has the zoomies, then it’s every dog for themselves if you get in the way of those legs!) & he couldn’t have had a better sister by his side. She always alerted us if he had a seizure, or as he aged & his legs started failing she would tell us we needed to help get him up. This duo was truly such a sweet, bonded pair & we loved getting to see their relationship every week.

Some of our favorite moments with Atti Bear are as follows:

-he drank a LOT of water due to his medications, & he would whine at the door directly AFTER his takeout, so we had to take him on a leash out front so he could p*e & watch the cars drive by. I’m still fairly certain he held it on purpose sometimes knowing we would take him for a little stroll😉

-one time when he first started, we hadn’t yet learned his cues for needing to p*e. & when this guy had to go, it was a LOT. he tried to tell the employee in his room at the time, but she didn’t understand fast enough. so he started to p*e & proceeded to follow her around the room p*eing, trying to make sure she knew he had an accident & she had to clean it up. we still laugh about that 3 years later.

-he was always a clumsy guy, even before his mobility issues. he once slipped & got his toe stuck in the bathroom door & dana had to kick the door in to free his toe. thankfully he was 100% fine, albeit a bit angry with dana for a few months despite her being a hero🤣

-atticus loved to swim. & by swim we mean put his front feet in the pool, & drink as much of the pool at once as he could. big water bowl for a big guy🥰

There are so many more instances we could name & memories we could share. But we are so thankful to have been able to be a part of his life, & especially thankful to his parents to have trusted us with such a special guy. We will miss him endlessly, & we are sending all our love & thoughts to his parents & sister during this difficult loss. The Rainbow Bridge is lucky to have you Atti.🌈🫶🏼
