We have restocked the available pet food just in time for food pantry hours TODAY!

As a reminder, the shelf is located at the address below:

Leave it to Chef Rotary Serves Food has a community food pantry at this address. They are open from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Fridays If you are in need of pet food, you can visit our shelf today (Friday, June 21st at 11:00 a.m.)!

❗️Urgent: Foster Home Needed for Two Beloved Cats!❗️

A fellow community member, Martha, needs our help after a severe storm caused significant damage to her home. While she waits for the insurance process to determine if her house will be repaired or rebuilt, Martha is living in temporary housing. 😔

Martha has two beloved cats, Georgi and Frankie, whom she is doing everything she can to keep. Sadly, they can't stay with her at her temporary housing and are currently in a less-than-ideal situation in her damaged home.

She is urgently seeking a foster home for Georgi and Frankie for approximately six months. They are…

- 3 years old
- Up to date on vaccinations
- Spayed (Georgi) and neutered (Frankie)

Although The Stable Pet Project does not have a foster program, this unique situation is one where fostering can help Martha KEEP her pets. So, we are asking our wonderful community on her behalf: Can anyone step up to foster these two cats temporarily? 🥹 (You would be fostering independently but we would be happy to help with any questions or concerns you might have!)

While we don’t anticipate any medical needs, any that arise will be covered.

We are excited to announce our first free pet food shelf is now available! (We are actively working with other organizations to provide and stock additional shelf locations! Stay tuned for updates as they become available!)

Leave it to Chef Rotary Serves Food supported by Rotary Club of JWCS has a community food pantry at the above address. They are open from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Fridays and have graciously allowed us to provide a shelf there! Our first in-person fundraising event was a success! A huge thank you to Leave it to Chef Rotary Serves Food supported by Rotary Club of JWCS for providing the space and delicious cookies! 🍪

Indulge in some freshly baked cookies while supporting a good cause! 🍪 Join us as Leave it to Chef serves up delicious cookies on Saturday, May 25th, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at 216 N Washington St. (across from the Center for Empowerment and Justice) in Carbondale. Simply purchase the quantity of cookies you want and feel extra good that the proceeds from your sweet treat will benefit The Stable Pet Project (TSPP)! 🐾

TSPP is a nonprofit that helps pet owners who are experiencing hardship to keep their furry companions. We do this by providing temporary financial aid for vet care and/or giving them essential pet supplies — buying them time to get back on their feet and keeping their beloved pets where they belong: HOME 🏡. This also reduces pet surrender rates and overcrowding of shelters, helping the community and pets within it from multiple angles. 🧡

We have officially entered kitten season! 🐈🐈‍⬛🐾 It’s the time of the year where we commonly come across adorable bushels of kittens outside. If you find some, don’t panic! Here is a list of helpful questions to consider before committing to caring for the kittens yourself or surrendering them elsewhere.

In most cases, mother cats are still caring for their young — even if you don’t see them. So, it's important to determine the best steps before intervening (if intervention is even necessary).

Following these recommendations can greatly contribute to saving lives, especially with the current issue of overpopulation in shelters. 🧡🐾

As someone with 7 adopted pets myself, I care deeply about keeping animals out of shelters whenever possible. I hope that can help keep pets in their homes, reduce the overcrowding of shelters, and keep animals from being at risk of euthanasia.”

Today, we have a somber update to share. Sweet Slim Jim has passed away. He was a vocal, affectionate, and determined little guy. With our combined efforts to have him seen by a vet, we were hopeful that he would recover and he really did give it his all. 😔

We deeply appreciate everyone who supported him, providing him with the best possible chance. Though not every pet we attempt to help will overcome their challenges, our commitment to try remains steadfast.

Rest peacefully, Slim Jim. 🧡🌈🐾

✨Update on Slim Jim✨

With the help of some very caring donors, Slim Jim was seen by a vet today! 🧡 A physical exam and x-rays were done. Here is what we learned…

Foreign object(s) were ruled out. Slim Jim did have food in his belly and has the will to keep on living! His liver looks a little small which could either be hereditary or a Congenital Portosystemic Shunt (an anomaly of the liver common in both cats and dogs).

These have different abilities to treat and additional, more expensive testing is needed to determine what it could be (or if it’s something else entirely). 🩺

Since Slim Jim’s weight and size is most concerning, he will now be getting Prozyme Powder mixed in with his food at every meal. This will help his body process the nutrients in the food and allow him to intake more calories.

He has energy, the loudest purr, and still so much love to give! His caretaker will be monitoring him closely while we wait to see how he does with the powder first! 🐾
