🎉🐾 Happy National Cat Day! 🐾🎉

Meet Ash and Killian, two dashing brothers from the exact same litter — though you might never guess it from their opposite personalities!

You’d think Ash would be the gray one... but nope! Ash is the gray and white social butterfly who strutted into the clinic like he owned the place. 😎 He soaked up every bit of attention, rolled in catnip like it was spa day, and insisted that his exam take place on the counter (because exam tables are so last season). 🩺💅

Meanwhile, his brother Killian, the darker gray gentleman with just a hint of white, took a more “strong, silent type” approach. He wasn’t exactly looking to mingle — but even he couldn’t resist a few chin scratches and a little catnip bribery. 🌿🐾

🐱 National Cat Day isn’t just about celebrating the feline divas, cuddle bugs, and sass masters we share our homes with — it’s also a reminder that keeping up with their health is one of the best ways to show our love. Cats are experts at pretending they’re fine (even when they’re not), so those annual wellness exams help catch issues early, check dental health, and make sure everything from nutrition to weight is right on track. 💪❤️

So today, give your cat some extra love — or you know, just the exact amount they allow. 😉 Maybe toss in a little catnip, a sunny window nap, and a reminder that they run the household (because we all know they do).

🛁🐶 Meet Penny, the adorable King Charles Cavalier who recently got the fresh start she’s always deserved! 💕
Penny was adopted from the Aspen Animal Shelter by our amazing practice manager, Cheryl — but here’s the sweet twist: Cheryl adopted her for her mom, who lives out of state and recently lost her beloved pup. ❤️ Sometimes the right dog just finds you, and in this case, Penny was the one.
After adoption day, Penny came in to Alpine Animal Hospital for a well-deserved mini makeover — complete with a bath in our treatment room sink 🫧, a little trim, and a full once-over. She absolutely soaked up the attention (literally and figuratively 😄) and was a total doll through it all. Penny’s got the sweetest personality — she adores people, is full of confidence, and can make friends with just about anyone she meets. 🐾
Penny’s story is especially special because she spent most of her life as a puppy mill dog, living in a kennel and raising puppies. But those days are officially behind her! 🙌 She’s now headed into a happy retirement filled with love, snuggles, and long naps on soft blankets. And once she gets her dental cleaning, she’ll be 100% ready to rock her new forever home! 🦷💖
✨ Adoption truly changes lives — not just for the animals, but for the humans too. Our local rescues and shelters here in the valley, like the Aspen Animal Shelter and so many others, do incredible work finding forever homes for pets just like Penny. If you’re thinking about adding a furry friend to your family, consider adopting — you might just find your perfect match waiting for you! 🏡🐕

🐾💥 Sweet Luna, a 6½-year-old German Shepherd beauty, had quite the ruff day recently! She was out for a peaceful walk in front of her house, minding her own business, when an off-leash dog decided to start some drama 😬 and gave her a bite right on the face as you can see in the photo! Poor Luna ended up with some serious swelling on the side of her face that just kept getting bigger — so her dad, being the awesome dog dad that he is, brought her straight in to see us. 🐕❤️
When we took a closer look, we found a pretty significant puncture wound on the outside of her face. Upon further investigation the inside of her mouth had turned into what we call an open abscess (sounds gross because… well, it kind of is 🤢). An abscess is basically a pocket of infection under the skin that fills with pus — and when it opens, that’s actually a good thing! It means the infection is draining out instead of staying trapped inside. 💧🩺
Since Luna’s abscess was already open and draining, we treated her conservatively with antibiotics, pain meds, and anti-inflammatories to help her heal and feel like herself again. And guess what? Within a few days, the swelling went down, the infection cleared, and Luna was back to her happy, playful, tail-wagging self — probably telling her dog friends, “You should see the other guy” (even though she got the brunt of the incident). 😉🐶✨
We’re so proud of this brave girl and grateful for her dad’s quick thinking! 💪🐾

Meet Asher — our 5-month-old heartthrob who came in for his neuter appointment and totally stole everyone’s hearts ❤️ (even while rockin’ the dreaded cone of shame 😅).
This handsome little gentleman, with his white and grey markings, was not about to let a cone stop him from getting attention. Nope. Not Asher. He just kept reaching his tiny paws out of the kennel like,
“Excuse me, ma’am… I require snuggles. Immediately.” 🐾💔
Unfortunately for our Romeo, his new accessory wasn’t just for fashion — he just couldn’t leave his surgery site alone 🙈. But don’t worry, Asher is doing purr-fectly now and back to his usual kitten chaos.
We’re happy to report he’s healing up, feeling great, and probably plotting his next round of zoomies as we speak. 🐈💨

💚 Healing vibes for Dr. Gisleson’s sweet pup, Claire! 🐶✨
Our very own Dr. Gisleson has been busy helping her Boxer pup, Claire, recover after undergoing a TPLO (Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy) surgery on her knee. 🩺💪
A TPLO is a specialized orthopedic surgery that helps repair a dog’s torn cranial cruciate ligament (similar to an ACL tear in humans). Instead of replacing the ligament, the surgery changes the angle of the tibia to stabilize the knee joint — allowing for better comfort, strength, and long-term mobility. 🦴🐕
We’re so grateful to have a board-certified veterinary surgeon, Dr. Imhoff, right here in the valley performing these incredible procedures for pets in need. 👏🐾
Dr. Gisleson has been using laser therapy to help speed up Claire’s healing, reduce inflammation, and ease discomfort — and we have to say, they both look pretty fabulous in their matching laser goggles! 😎🐶💖
We’re thrilled to report that Claire is doing amazing! She’s a few weeks post-op, healing beautifully, and well on her way back to her playful, wiggly self. ❤️
Here’s to strong knees, modern medicine, and the love between a vet and her dog. 💚🐾

🐾 Meet Sophie, the 4-month-old Bavarian Mountain Hound. Her parents recently brought her in because she developed a golf-ball–sized lump just under her chin. At first, they thought maybe she had been stung while chasing bees and wasps , 🐝😅 which she does frequently. But when it didn’t go away, they brought her in for us to figure out what was going on.

Sophie was an absolute angel 💕 and let us aspirate the lump so we could peek under the microscope. What we saw looked like an inflammatory mass with a bit of bacteria. Luckily, her lymph nodes were calm and quiet 🙌, so we started her on medication for infection, inflammation, and discomfort. A few days later, her family happily reported back that Sophie was bouncing with energy again—feeling so much better than they even realized she wasn’t before. The lump was nearly gone, and Sophie was back to her spunky, stunning self!

✨ A quick note on her breed: Bavarian Mountain Hounds are rare, originally bred in Germany as scent hounds to track wounded game. They’re intelligent, loyal, and hardworking, with incredible noses. And those ears!!!! While they don’t get giant, they do grow into a solid, athletic medium-sized dog… which means Dr. Biggins won’t be able to hold her like this for much longer! 📸

We can’t wait to see Sophie again in a few weeks when she’s back for more of her puppy vaccines. Until then, we’re so glad she’s feeling happy, healthy, and full of puppy energy! 🐶💖
