Say hello to Talisker—the stunning 6½-year-old red Golden Retriever who turned all our heads the moment he walked through the door! 🔥🐶 With that rare deep red coat and those soulful eyes, this handsome guy is a total heart-stealer. 😍

Talisker came in with a very sore, irritated ear that had been bothering him for a few days. His loving grandparents had been trying to help while his parents were out of town, but despite their efforts, the infection wasn’t getting any better. His ear was super red, had a funky odor, and he just didn’t want anyone messing with it anymore. 😢👂

💙 Talisker was understandably hesitant, but he trusted us enough to let Dr. Davis gently examine him. Sure enough, he had a pretty severe case of otitis with both bacteria and yeast causing discomfort.

We used a long-lasting treatment that works over about two weeks, so he doesn’t have to deal with daily ear meds 🙌—and because of the inflammation and pain, we added a steroid to help him feel more comfortable faster. 💊✨

Swipe through to see the adorable pics of Dr. Davis applying the ear medication—Talisker even let her give a good ear massage to make sure the treatment got deep where it needed to go. 🥰🐾 He was such a champ!

We’ll see him again soon to make sure his ear is healing just right. Feel better soon, sweet boy—we loved having you in! 💕

🐾 Field Trip Fun at Alpine Animal Hospital! 🐾

We had the absolute pleasure of welcoming about 30 bright, curious students from Blue Lake on a special field trip to Alpine Animal Hospital! 🎒🐶

The kids got an inside look at what goes on in a veterinary hospital—from caring for patients to learning how we help animals heal. After the tour, Dr. Gisleson took the group outside for an extra fun and interactive activity. Each student received their very own bag full of bandaging supplies to practice on their stuffed animal “patient”. 🧸🩹💼

With Dr. Gisleson leading a hands-on demo, every single kid got the chance to learn how to wrap a pet’s leg, practicing step-by-step on their own stuffed animal. The focus, concentration, and excitement on their faces said it all—they were totally engaged and loving every minute of it. 💙

These kinds of moments are more than just fun—they’re meaningful. They spark curiosity, build confidence, and give kids a chance to see what it’s like to care for others, even in small ways. We believe it’s so important to share our profession with the next generation and show them just how rewarding a life of service to animals can be. 🐾✨

We’re honored to be part of this amazing community, and we’re so grateful to the students and staff at Blue Lake for spending some time with us. We had just as much fun as the kids did—and we hope a few future veterinarians were inspired along the way! 🩺🌟

🎆🇺🇸 Stars, Stripes & Wagging Tails! 🐾🎇

We’re taking a paws this Friday, July 4th to celebrate Independence Day with our families—and we hope you and your furry loved ones are doing the same! ❤️🤍💙

🎉 Our clinic will be CLOSED on the 4th of July so our team can enjoy the holiday, but we’ll be right back to care for your pets the following Monday!

As we celebrate all things red, white, and woof, here are a few friendly reminders to help keep your pets safe during the festivities:
🐶 Keep pets indoors during fireworks—those booms can be scary!
🍗 Watch out for BBQ scraps and party foods (no bones or onions, please!).
💥 Make sure collars, tags, and microchips are up to date—just in case.
🔥 Keep sparklers and fireworks far away from curious noses and paws.

From all of us to all of you, we wish you a safe, sparkly, tail-wagging 4th of July! 💫🇺🇸🐾

📸 Drop a photo of your pet showing off their best red, white & blue look in the comments—we’d love to see them! 😍📷

Today we treated Mini, a 13½-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer, who presented on emergency after a serious encounter with a deer on her property.

Mini had gone outside for her normal morning routine when the incident occurred. Although deer usually avoid confrontation, they can become aggressive if they feel threatened—especially during fawning season.

On exam, Mini had multiple lacerations, including a large gash along her body wall and deep wounds in the groin area. These wounds were consistent with trauma from hooves or possibly antlers. Thankfully, the injuries were limited to the skin and subcutaneous tissue—there was no involvement of deeper muscle layers or internal structures.

Mini was sedated for wound exploration and treatment. We thoroughly cleaned all sites, sutured the lacerations, and placed a drain in the abdominal area to allow proper fluid drainage from the deeper gouge wounds.

Her owners had also noted that she had been shaking her head and appeared irritated by her right ear. On exam, there were signs of past trauma and inflammation, and while there was no active hematoma, there was residual swelling. During sedation, we found and removed a grass seed from the ear canal, which likely caused the irritation.

Mini recovered smoothly from anesthesia and is now healing well with appropriate pain control and antibiotics.

⚠️ A reminder to pet owners: While deer are typically non-confrontational, they can pose a serious threat if startled or defending young. Always supervise dogs around wildlife, especially in rural or wooded areas.

🇺🇸🎆 BOOM! BANG! BOOM!
The 4th of July is right around the corner... and Migas the pug wants to remind you: sleeping through fireworks is way better than panicking through them. 😴🐾💥

Fireworks may be fun for us—but for many pets, especially dogs with noise phobias, they can be downright terrifying. As the evening goes on and the booms get louder, stress levels often skyrocket. 😰

That’s why now is the time to plan ahead. If your dog struggles with noise anxiety, give us a call so we can help set them up for a calmer, more peaceful holiday. 🩺📞

👉 For many pups, a combination of medications can provide gentle, effective relief.
👉 For dogs with more severe anxiety, we can explore additional options to help them feel safe and secure.
👉 No one wants to give their pets medication, but sometimes it’s exactly what they need for their safety, sanity, and well-being.

💤 Just like little Migas here—who is peacefully snoozing in his kennel instead of stressing over every firework—sometimes a nap is the best option. ❤️

In addition to medications, here are some helpful tools to keep your pet more comfortable:

🔊 Background noise helps! Turn up the TV, play calming music, or run a white noise machine or fan.
🏠 Create a safe space. Set up a cozy, quiet spot in the house where your pet can feel secure—think comfy bedding, familiar smells, and dim lighting.
🐶 Stay calm. Pets often take cues from their humans—so if you’re relaxed, they’re more likely to be, too.
🧸 Use calming aids. Products like anxiety wraps, pheromone sprays, or diffusers (like Adaptil) can help provide additional comfort.
🎯 Exercise earlier in the day. Get in a good walk or play session before the fireworks begin to help burn off extra energy.

The key is preparation—don’t wait until the booms begin! Call us today and let’s get your furry friend set up for a calmer, more comfortable 4th of July. We can also do tele-health consultations for established patients to make it even easier for our 4 legged friends. 🎆🐕💙

🎉🎂 Happy Birthday, Imani! 🎂🎉

We just celebrated Imani’s workiversary a few weeks ago, and now we’re lucky enough to be celebrating her birthday too! 💫 Talk about back-to-back reminders of how grateful we are to have her on the Alpine Animal Hospital team. 💙🐾

Imani brings so much light and calm to the clinic. She’s wicked smart, incredibly thoughtful, and always ready to lend a helping hand—whether it’s jumping in with patient care or simply being a steady, supportive presence on a busy day. 🩺💪

Working alongside her is a joy—she’s fun, sharp, and someone you can always count on. 🧠✨ Her warmth and calm energy help make Alpine feel like a family, and today we hope she feels just how appreciated she truly is.

🎤🐶🍽️ It’s Friday. It’s the first day of summer. The vibes are high—and Ranger the Labrador is making sure everyone knows it’s dinner o’clock. 🔊💥

The second the word dinner is mentioned, Ranger launches into full celebration mode: barking, bouncing, spinning, and giving an Oscar-worthy performance as the official spokesperson for hungry dogs everywhere. 🐾

In the background? Ursa the little Rottie, pacing with grace and patience like, “I’ll wait… but only because I’ve done this dance before.” 😅🖤

Together, they’re the perfect summer duo—Ranger bringing the chaos, Ursa holding it down. The message is loud, clear, and adorable: let the weekend (and the kibble) begin. 💛☀️
