Our family has been involved in Vizslas since 1980 when my mother purchased our very first Vizsla. This female was bought mainly for the purpose of a family pet and occasionally a weekend hunting dog. Vizsla fever caught and for the past 30 years we’ve had atleast twenty Vizslas that have been part of our family. After Linda and I had our first Vizsla for a couple of years, we decided that we want
ed a puppy out of her. We checked with Paul & Shirley Rothan who were instrumental in getting our puppy, they advised us to check with Bob & Mary Lee Sloan. When I paid Bob the stud fee for the breeding, he then said give me another $10.00. I am sure that I had this funny look on my face, but I did give the additional $10.00. He then stated that we were now members of the Miami Valley Vizsla Club, and that they were going to have a Versatility Test at their farm the following weekend. We went to see what this was and to check out the club. To make a long story shorter, Heidi received three blue ribbons for qualifying. They had us hook, line and sinker. So for the last 30 years we’ve traveled the country running dogs in just about every part of the USA and we’ve been pretty successful. We’ve amassed over 50+ AKC tiles & American Field wins while winning and finishing Vizsla Champions and National Champions. Its one thing to talk about being the best, but the titles say it all!! 6 Dual Champions, 2 National Champions bred by us one of which was trained and handled to their win by Denny, 8 Field Champions, 9 Amateur Field Champions, 15 Show Champions, 11 Versatility titles, 3 Mater Hunters & numerous Senior Hunter and Junior titles. We have been extremely fortunate over the years with our dogs and with the dogs that we have produced. We have received National Wins & placements, 3 State of Ohio Dog of year Awards, and numerous Vizsla Club of America Top Ten standings. In our breeding program, we strive to breed for the very best versatile dog. The main aspect is the temperment, the Vizsla has a very special temperment and we want to keep it in our dogs & puppies. The next thing on our list is the field ability of the dog. This is a sporting breed and a bird dog should be able to put meat on the table. Next is the looks of the dogs. We breed for dual type of dog. Our primary interests are field trials, hunt tests, conformation, obedience and the versatility program. We have donated a number of our puppies to the Ohio Pilot Dogs Program (Seeing Eye Dogs) and have successfully complete their training program. We recently entered one of our pups in NAVHDA in the natural ability test and she received a PRIZE1 with a perfect score. So I guess we will be getting more involved in that also. But the most important thing to us concerning our dogs is that they are part of the family first. Everything else is just icing on the cake. Over the last couple of years Linda has seen her fair share of health issues one of which resulted in a double lung transplant that while initially trying has resulted in a major improvement in Linda’s ability to continue to do the things she loves. It certainly doesn’t stop her or Denny from giving back to the breed they both love so much. Denny & Linda both have previously served or currently do serve in various positions within the national and local clubs. Holding everything from President, Vice President, Board Member all the way to we’re just happy to help out. On many occasions we open our home to the local clubs to be able to hold Hunt Tests & Versatility tests. Both Linda and Denny are recognized AKC Field Trial & Hunt Test Judges serving regularly in local and national trials. Recently Denny served as judge to the prestigious AKC National Pointer Trial held at Fort Robinson, Nebraska, but has also been a past judge for the Ohio Shorthair Championship, the Mid-America Championship and many others. On June 30th 2010 Denny retired from the F.A.A. as an Air Traffic Controller with 32 years of service opening a new chapter in his life…RETIREMENT!! Or so he thought…
Over the past 30 years we’ve opened our home to many of our friends dogs, trained and campaigned them for them with great success. With retirement from the FAA an outpouring of requests soon started pouring in for Denny to start training dogs professionally. So as of November 1, 2010 Denny officially turned Pro and will now start training and campaigning dogs towards their championships. We welcome this new direction with great enthusiasm as it gives Denny something to look forward to every day doing what he loves…working great dogs!
