We have a few amazing adult cats with us right now that have yet to get interest.đŸ˜șMeet Dazzler, River Rock, and Breath of Fresh Air!

These sweet girls have the temperaments and personalities of angels.😇 They are so gentle, loving, and cuddly. They may want to play a bit once comfortable but really they just want someone to love and cuddle on and binge a good TV show!đŸ“șThey all seem to be good with other animals, with proper acclimation of course, and all seem like they wouldn’t mind children, as long as they are respectful and gentle. Breath of Fresh Air also enjoys having a good conversation with you!

If you are interested in either of these sweet girlies, fill out an adoption request form via our website acadianaanimalaid.org and our adoption coordinators will be in touch!

Meet Motherboard – A Gentle Soul Ready for a Chance

Motherboard is an incredibly gentle and quiet dog who is still learning to trust humans. She came to us after being rescued from a hoarding case, bringing with her a nursing litter of puppies. Her babies have all found their forever homes, and now it’s Motherboard’s turn to find hers.

Canine companionship brings out the best in her, helping her gain confidence and feel more at ease. She truly thrives in the presence of other dogs and would do best in a home with a friendly, social dog who can show her the ropes. But that’s not all—Motherboard also has a soft spot for cats and does wonderfully with kids!
While she may take time to warm up to people, her progress is a testament to her resilience. She needs a patient, understanding adopter who will give her the space and time she needs to feel safe and loved. Her ideal family will celebrate her small victories and recognize that love and trust can’t be rushed—they grow at their own pace.

Are you the kind, patient person who can offer Motherboard the loving home she’s been waiting for? If you have a calm household with a dog who could be her guide and best friend—and maybe even some kids or cats to share her journey with—she might just be the perfect match for your family.

We are CLOSED today due to weather but if you want to meet Motherboard and see the potential for a beautiful friendship to grow, be sure to fill out an adoption form at acadianaanimalaid.org/adopt. She’s been waiting for someone like you to give her the chance she so deeply deserves.

As you may have heard, CC’s is back and once again looking for a home to call her own.đŸ˜ș

This poor girl has been with us since the beginning of May. That is over 200 days now with no interest besides her brief time with her previous adopter who decided to dump her on their neighbor’s doorstep as a “stray”.😿 One thing we did learn from her time in the adopter’s home is that she thrives being the only cat. She was a cuddle master, purr machine, and great companion from the updates we received. CC’s knows what she wants and that is not to share her humans with anyone else if she has a say in it. She has coexisted with other cats just fine but ideally she may be her best self in a single cat household. She is a queen bee, a diva, and quite frankly she slays.👑 She is currently in a foster home so we can learn even more about her and she has been opening up a lot!

She has even revealed her full identity and CC’s stands for Calliope Cat!

So in honor of giving our girl CC’s a fresh start, meet Calliope Cat! She has been extra chatty lately, telling us all sorts of things. We don’t speak feline very well, however we understand her well enough to know she’s ready to settle down. Calliope Cat has a quirky personality. She likes to play with her toys, but only in secret. She can’t have people thinking she plays or anything. She’s secretive like that, look at how long it took her to tell us her name was Calliope.đŸ˜č

If you are interested in giving Calliope Cat (aka CC’s) a home, fill out an adoption request form via our website acadianaanimalaid.org. Our adoption coordinators are eager to answer questions and hopefully schedule a meeting with our girl!

**Our shelter will be closed to the public today, Tuesday the 21st, and Wednesday the 22nd due to the weather. We appreciate your patience!❄

Fostering saves lives, and a few pets need your help more than ever.

Meet Abby Lee, a sweet playful 1.5 year old. Abby Lee knows nothing but life in the shelter. At 3 months old, Abby Lee entered a municipal shelter and never left. For a year and a half, through her entire puppyhood and beyond, no one ever came for her. Since then she’s grown up quite a bit and now fostering could give her a calm environment to thrive. Abby Lee struggles to come out of her shell amidst the noise and activity of a kennel. In a foster home, she could gain confidence and learn to trust humans again.
Then we have Insulation. Fostering a kitten who has just had their eye removed is a truly special act of compassion. This little survivor needs a calm, loving environment to heal, build confidence, and adjust to their new normal. With your care, Insulation will quickly learn that losing an eye doesn’t mean losing joy, playfulness, or love. By fostering, you’re giving them the chance to recover fully and show potential adopters just how resilient and wonderful they are. Your kindness paves the way for a happy, healthy future for this brave little one.
Fostering is transformative for pets. In a home environment, animals learn social skills. Studies show that pets in foster care are less anxious, which makes them more appealing to adopters. As a foster, you’re also in a unique position to provide insights into the pet’s personality and needs, ensuring the perfect match with their future family. By fostering, you’re not just opening your home—you’re opening doors to a brighter future. Whether it’s a temporary weekend foster, or a short term foster your care directly increases their chances of finding lasting happiness. Fostering saves lives, one home at a time.

If you are interested in fostering please put in a foster form on our website! Acadianaanimalaid.org

In just the first two weeks of 2025, we have already taken in 88 cats and dogs! 66% of which are underage puppies and kittens. This doesn't even come close to the amount of animals who still desperately need our help. From being discarded in a dumpster, giving birth in a shelter in the cold, accidental litters due to lack of resources and education, and countless others who are born into an already oversaturated population of animals begging for help.

Our mission starts with YOU. Fueled by compassion and a drive to build a better future, together we can continue to save those that need us. These 88 lives will need daily and foster care supplies, food and ongoing medical care. Right now we are utilizing 46 foster homes in addition to our on site housing to care for 200 animals.

Join us in making a new year's resolution; a commitment to protect innocent dogs and cats by becoming a Guardian Angel monthly donor. Your monthly gift will provide lifesaving care for moms and nursing babies, vital resources for medical emergencies and routine check-ups, and a network of safety for vulnerable animals: acadianaanimalaid.org/guardian-angel. 💖

At 3 months old, Abby Lee and her siblings entered a municipal shelter and never left. For a year and a half, through her entire puppyhood and beyond, no one ever came for her. We met and took Abby into our care this past November, after she had already spent so much of her life stagnant and lost in the system.

Abby is one of thousands, overlooked and left behind. We knew there would be a rough journey ahead for her, but for as resilent as she has been, we promised to advocate for her. When she first arrived, Abby had sadly become so institutionalized that every single thing was SO brand new and intimidating. Her world expanded overnight, having to build new connections and bonds while learning and developing so many new skills.

Abby is a really, really sweet girl, who adores those who are patient with her while she navigates through her fears and strengthens her confidence. She spent her very first time in a home recently, with a foster, and she LOVED it! Abby has shown that she is a very well mannered house guest, having zero accidents and making great use of comfy couch naps. She does best in the company of other dogs, who help serve as a security blanket, best friend and playmate. Abby often enjoys playing with her favorite ball toys and getting love from staff/volunteers. Once she opens up, her personality shines and she is so silly and playful.

This shy, precious girl has waited a LONG time for this opportunity. She deserves to find a family who will meet her where she is and embrace her with kindness, patience and love. Help us find Abby the home she's been waiting for and if interested, please fill out an adoption form at acadianaanimalaid.org/adopt.
