Thank yall so much for the continuous trust and support! I truly love working with horses and learning more each day from them. It means a lot when people trust the process and listen to their horses needs. I still have so much to learn but there’s no stopping! My ‘WHY’ behind starting my rehab journey.
My first horse after taking a short break from racing. My first horse that ever had surgery.
This was a brand new experience that I had zero knowledge about. I started realizing how common it is for many horses to have surgeries or injuries that they need to be brought back from. I had some pretty good resources to help me but I still just couldn’t quite figure out why this happened, how I could potentially prevent it, how to rehab it, the craziness that comes with the dreaded “stall rest”, and all the in betweens of handeling this properly.

So here we are 3 years later from finding the injury and 2 years post surgery and our journey continues. I have learned so much in that short period and am still challenging myself to learn more!

Let’s talk about consistency. It’s something that continues to come up in this line of work. I believe in the program I’ve studied and tweaked. I have seen it work for my horses and client horses BUT it has to be followed.

Kate and Kate have been following a LARC TEST program for quite some time now. We tested Kate (the horse) at the MEGA and her results are posted. Fast forward to two weeks since then and with minor adjustments to the program look at where Kate and Kate are now. It takes longer than 2 weeks on this program for you to see the big difference. It takes some adjustments but once we get it figured out it usually makes for a successful journey.

Consistency is key but small adjustments are also extremely important to help the horse adapt to changes.

This covered equiciser allows us to work horses rain or shine and even when it’s too hot to ride. We beat the heat in the shade and by scheduling our workouts early before it gets too hot or humid.

Message me if you have a horse that is coming back from an injury, a break, or from having a baby. Our facility allows us to get those horses back in running condition. I work with vets and other experts to create a conditioning or rehabbing program that is just enough but not too hard on your horse!

Those babies are always watching their mama. We expose the babies to things very early over here. Little Charlie will be 4 months old this month. He is already halter broke, leading, and has even learned to throw temper tantrums.

YEP I’ve seen the post by Flair strips and the claim that “a horses lungs don’t improve with exercise” and well as much as I don’t agree with the way that information is presented… they aren’t entirely wrong either. 🤷🏻‍♀️

So let’s dive deeper… as I’ve mentioned and shared I’ve recently been studying a lot on the horses respiratory system, which for those of you that don’t know does include the lungs. lol My goal is to HELP the lungs improve OR be a stepping stone to figure out why they aren’t improving which typically requires us to get your vet involved. There’s a lot that could cause the respiratory system to not get the proper amount of oxygen needed. I won’t get into all that because that’s a whole post for itself. But anyways that is why I’ve been trained to focus on the lungs first before going any further. “Nothing else can improve if the lungs don’t function properly.”

Now, let’s talk about exercise and the effects it DOES have on the horses respiratory system. Lungs do not “change” necessarily but what does change is how our horses use the oxygen they are breathing in. If we are doing the proper amount of aerobic training the muscles will learn to utilize the oxygen more efficiently. If we do not train the muscles and heart properly they will rob the oxygen that the lungs otherwise need and not get enough of what the muscles require for the job they are doing. That is also where we start talking about lactic acid (lactate levels) and if those get too high we get into the danger zone of potential injury. You can also cause this by doing TOO MUCH and again robbing the muscles and lungs of what they actually need.

To summarize, everything inside the horses body matters and are all tied together. They can hurt or help each other. Training can also help your horse when done correctly. I am still doing a lot of research but this is what I have learned so far! Do with it what you will. 🙃

Side note: I’ve never used Flair Strips but do know there is research proving that they do help.
