Home Pet Rescue (HHPR) provided emergency assistance to the Maine Animal Welfare Dept and the Caribou Police Dept. over the Christmas holiday of 2024 to rescue 9 cats from the Caribou Stream Trailer Park (former Noble’s Trailer Park). HHPR volunteers working the holiday rescue were: Isaiah Belyea, Peter Ellis, Donna Huntington, Kim Plavnick, Norma Milton, Brenda Perkins, Sharon Mahoney, Cheyanne Cormier. Pictured are 2 of the rescued cats delighted to be saved but still wondering what happens next. Cats will be adoptable when medical needs are completed including spay/neuter. HHPR is a federal 501 c3 non-profit, Maine state licensed pet rescue based with an ALL volunteer workers which provides 6 spay/neuter public clinics per year with a traveling vet Dr. Stone from Community Cats in Topsham, Maine.

This lovely thank you note was received from the Maine Animal Welfare Dept. in Augusta. At this point 9 cats have been rescued and are awaiting medical care as we have to travel outside the county to get our cats help.

"Good morning,
I would like to express my gratitude to the HHPR volunteers for taking on this situation and working tirelessly to ensure that the cats are safe, warm, fed, and provided proper medical attention. This type of case is difficult for Animal Welfare to take care of because an agent is spread so thin in Aroostook County. It would fall to the municipal animal control level so we sincerely thank HHPR for stepping in."

Halfway Home Pet Rescue is working a stray/abandoned cat rescue out at the Caribou Stream Trailer Park (formerly known as Nobel’s Trailer Park) on the Washburn Rd in Caribou. We encourage ALL park residents to keep their personal cats inside until Monday so that we do not catch an owned cat. The rescue is approved by the Caribou Police Dept, Maine State Animal Welfare Dept. and the original owner of the cats.

Graylynn is excited to think she might have a home by Christmas. She is about 5 or 6 months old, domestic short hair, not yet spayed. She is very anxious to have a home of her own or maybe a home with her twin sister, Graylee.

They both came for the same hoarder who obviously gave them a lot of loving – really wasn’t able to good care of them. HHPR has gotten rid of all the fleas, worms, given 2 distemper shots and are just waiting for their spay appointment. They are bonded twins but are adjustable in spirit.

They just want a home SOON. Graylee has a white neck and Graylynn has a black neck.

Halfway Home Pet Rescue is in urgent need of donations to support the growing number of cats in our care. With limited resources and increasing demand, the shelter is struggling to provide essential food, medical care, and safe shelter for these vulnerable animals. Every contribution, big or small, makes a significant impact in helping abandoned, stray and rescued cats find a second chance at life.

Your generosity can ensure these cats receive the love and care they deserve while they wait for their forever homes. Please consider making a donation today in ANY amount to help save lives and make a dramatic difference in a cats life.

Mary recently opened her heart and home to Molly, a depressed and scared cat from Halfway Home Pet Rescue. After visiting the shelter, Mary felt an instant connection with Molly, who had been waiting for a loving family. Now settled into her new home, Molly is thriving under Mary’s care, enjoying plenty of cuddles and a safe, warm space to call her own. Their bond is a testament to the joy that rescue cats bring and the difference an adoption makes in their lives.

"It is wonderful seeing Molly so happy. She was so depressed and scared for several months and hid, hid, hid. Now look at her – what a difference love and security made for her. This is just making my heart sing."
-Norma

"She's the best thing we ever did. Fitting right in."
