Lyssa Noble-Dennis earned her B.A. degree in Clinical Psychology with a special emphasis in behavior research. After graduation
, Lyssa worked as an Animal Behaviorist for over three years at the UCLA's Neuropsychiatric Institute, researching primate behavior. Working among some of the leading psychiatrists and anthropologists in the field of primatology, Lyssa was able to increase her knowledge and experience in the field of animal behavior. Her specialized studies included male dominance aggression, inter-group dynamics and infant development and cognition. During her undergraduate work, she worked for over two years at the now famous San Francisco Society of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. She evaluated shelter dogs for placement and dealt with hundreds of phone calls each week on their national "Animal Behavior Hotline." Through the SF-SPCA Lyssa also taught Humane Education to hundreds of school children, as well as provided significant participation in the Animal Assisted Therapy program. These community programs bring warmth, companionship and understanding to people who may otherwise not be exposed to such a variety of animals. She was mentored by Gwen Bonenkemp, the SF-SPCA's in-house Animal Behaviorist and Vice President of Sirius Puppy Training created by Ian Dunbar. Lyssa also worked under the now famous service dog trainer Martha Hoffman assisting in the SF- SPCA's Hearing Dog Program. For the past 18 years, Lyssa has been intensely involved in obedience competition, showing her dogs at the highest AKC level. She has many students go on to be top competitors, even beating her at a few shows! Her students find preparing and participating in competition obedience to be a wonderful bonding experience between themselves and their dogs. Lyssa and her students also compete in Agility, which has become the number one dog sport in the Country. She has also personally put championship titles on many dogs in both local and national competition. Lyssa has trained over 12,000 dogs and owners in successful techniques during her sixteen years in business.
