We have been in operation saving dogs and cats since 1975. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and your donations may be tax-deductible. Salem County Humane Society is a no-kill shelter for homeless dogs and cats, located on North Game Creek Road in Carneys Point, New Jersey. As a no-kill shelter, we work diligently to place animals in loving homes. However, dogs and cats who aren’t able to attract a ne
w family remain at the shelter permanently and see all the volunteers as their family. We operate strictly through donations and fundraisers, without relying on any local, state, or federal government funds. Our staff consists of 100% volunteers. We do not perform animal control duties; each township within Salem County has its own animal control officer. All the animals at our shelter receive veterinary care, including spaying and neutering. We never discriminate based on health or age, and we take in the abused, unwanted, and abandoned companion animals that other human beings have forgotten. We hope people will become more aware of the plight of homeless animals and recognize the benefits of adopting an animal in need. We encourage you to open your heart and home to one of these pets who is just waiting for the right person.
🐾New Volunteers Welcome!🐾
Volunteers play a crucial role in keeping the Salem County Humane Society operational, as we do not have any paid personnel. We welcome individuals and families of all backgrounds, including families with children aged 10 and above, retirees, and everyone in between. Our volunteer opportunities include:
• Daily Activities: feeding, medicating, and exercising the animals, cleaning the building to maintain a sanitary environment, and socializing all the dogs and cats. Morning and evening shifts are available.
• Vet Appointments: Volunteers assist by taking dogs and cats to their scheduled veterinary appointments.
• Maintenance: Volunteers perform necessary maintenance tasks for the building and grounds.
• Fostering: Providing temporary foster homes for young animals or those recovering from surgery or illness.
• Community Events and Fundraising: Volunteers participate in organizing and supporting community events and fundraising efforts.
