We are so excited to welcome Dr. Bethany Sakowski as the newest addition to the Knoll Animal Hospital team. To get to know Dr. Sakowski, please read her bio below. We can't wait for everyone to meet her!

"Ever since Dr. Sakowski was old enough to answer the question "what do you want to be when you grow up?" the answer was always "a veterinarian". She attended every vet appointment with her parents, and after getting a tour of the clinic at the age of just five or six, Dr. Sakowski knew for certain that veterinary medicine was her calling. Having a meaningful impact on the lives of pets and their owners has been a dream come true for Dr. Sakowski!

In high school, Dr. Sakowski began shadowing at the same clinic where she received a tour as a child. That experience was the beginning of her journey. She eventually became a veterinary assistant and worked her way up to a vet technician. She also volunteered with multiple rescue groups and wildlife rehab facilities. Dr. Sakowski received her bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences from the University of South Florida and studied veterinary medicine at St. George's University.

While finishing up her final year of vet school, Dr. Sakowski saw an ad for an employment opportunity at Knoll Animal Hospital and their dedication to mentorship and fear free medicine really stood out to her. After a phone call and visit to the clinic, it truly did feel like the perfect fit. She officially joined the team in August of 2024. Clinically, Dr. Sakowski enjoys the intellectual stimulation and the reward of helping pets and their families. She also has a special interest in internal medicine, exotic-pet care, and diagnostic imaging.

Outside of the clinic, Dr. Sakowski has seven pets of her own, including three dogs, and four cats. Archer is a silly pit bull who always has to be laying on a fluffy blanket. Callie is a sweet hound mix who loves car rides. Bronco (named for the car, not the football team) is a grumpy old min pin mix. Kitties Celestine Percy, Alli, and Eevee are independent but enjoy being loved, as long as it’s on their terms.

Aside from animals, Dr. Sakowski’s other passion is traveling. So far, she’s been to 30+ states and five different countries. One of her fun goals in life is to visit as many national parks as she can. To date, she’s been to 14, with her favorites being Kruger (where she saw the Big Five on safari) and Yellowstone. She’s also a huge foodie and loves trying new restaurants."

Dr. Knoll and Dr. Maas are excited to work alongside Dr. Sakowski to help even more pets. Thank you for coming with us on this new journey!

The 4th of July is quickly approaching, but what do we do when our pets may be sensitive to loud noises such as fireworks? We may be able to help! Check out these helpful tips that can not only help for the holiday, but all year round! 🐾🎆

We're starting to get some more frequent questions about when we're moving and the answer is...we don't know, but definitely this summer! Don't worry- as soon as we have a tentative date, we'll: send an email, post on social media, send out a PUSH notification from our app, and even change our phone recording because moving a business can be confusing for everyone involved...so please stay tuned.

So what have we been up to since we announced that we got the keys to our "forever home" in March? We're staying busy by working with an architect, applying for permits, starting construction, moving over some lesser-used items, and getting all of our services transferred over. If you're curious about updates- feel free to check out our blog: https://knollanimalhospital.blogspot.com/ We update whenever we have a new, exciting change- which should be more frequent when we've received all of our construction permits.

Happy Veterinary Receptionist Week, Donea! Donea joined our team in October 2022- making her one of our newest employees, at almost 2 years(!) with Knoll Animal Hospital. Donea is well-versed as a very experienced CSR, and starting to consider another role at Knoll. Donea is passionate, driven, and fierce. She is always working hard to meet whatever goals she has set for herself, and keeps her eyes on the prize. She could teach all of us something about motivation. Thank you for all you do here, Donea!

Continue on to read her staff bio:
"Unlike many of her colleagues, Donea didn’t initially set out to work in the veterinary field. It was just something she sort of “fell” into. She’d recently left a job she wasn’t passionate about and decided she needed a break to recover and reset her mind. During this hiatus, she would frequently drive by the hospital and wonder what it would be like to work here. After coming across an ad for an opening, she applied and the rest is history!

While Donea’s primary role here at Knoll Animal Hospital is receptionist, she continues to hone her skills and often assists with patient care as well. Prior to joining the Knoll team, Donea has worked at a doggie day care, as well as another local veterinary clinic. She also had a brief stint in human medicine along the way, but quickly discovered that her heart belonged with patients of the four-legged variety. Her favorite part of the job is providing comfort and understanding to clients during difficult or stressful moments.

Outside of work, Donea is Mom to Seymour, a bossy 16-pound Terrier mix who is as sassy as he is sweet. He believes people are here to serve him, and demands lots of cuddles, pats and treats while in his presence. Donea’s personal interests include song writing, working out at the gym, and going dancing with her friends."

Happy Veterinary Receptionist Week, Lauren! Lauren has been a member of our team since the end of 2021 and is coming up on her 3rd anniversary soon. Lauren is energetic, exciting, and funny. She cares deeply about our clients and customer service; she always wants to make sure everyone has a good experience from the first phone call- explaining what sets us apart, to check-out where she goes over our rewards program and all applicable rebate programs without fail. Your pet's health is important to her, and she makes sure we make it as easy and affordable as possible. Thank you for all you do here, Lauren!

Continue on to read her staff bio:
"From a young age, Lauren Allen was infatuated with animals – particularly dogs. Today, as beloved receptionist at Knoll Animal Hospital, Lauren is able to draw from her personal experience with anxiety to help alleviate stress and make fractious animals feel more comfortable.

Lauren’s journey in the animal care industry began as a dog groomer. From there, she transitioned into the medical realm as a Veterinary Receptionist. After cross-training as an assistant, Lauren decided she preferred the responsibilities of being a receptionist and creating relationships with clients.

Outside the clinic, Lauren resides in Carol Stream with her girlfriend, Vanessa, and their zoo, which includes a very vocal Siberian Husky named Apollo, and two cats: Milo, a special needs gray tabby who loves to play fetch, and Sosa, a female orange tabby who enjoys causing mischief by throwing treats off the counter and trying to run out the door to hunt birds. They also have a leopard gecko named Liz Khalifa, a crested gecko named Ivy Oddly, a grumpy blue crayfish, an aquatic frog, several snails, and a plethora of fish, including bettas, plecos, yoyos, guppies and more!

When not spending time with her human and animal family, Lauren enjoys reading, writing, cleaning, traveling, spending time outdoors, and binge watching Rupaul’s Drag Race and Law and Order: SVU."

Happy Veterinary Receptionist Week, Haley B! Haley joined our team over the summer of 2021. She was still a high school student, exploring what her future might look like. Haley has been with us through her last half of high school, and now as a college student. It's been such an honor watching her evolve not only as an adult, but also as a CSR with her communication skills. She's our resident exotic-only pet owner, having only small mammals..and working on some reptiles in the future! Thank you for all you do here, Haley!

Continue on to read her staff bio:
"Animals have always occupied a special place in Haley’s heart. Doing her part to give something back to the earth’s creatures is a dream come true! She’s a proud member of the Client Service Team here at Knoll Animal Hospital.

Haley grew up in Northlake and Franklin Park and first came to Knoll Animal Hospital when she was looking for a summer job. She’s been here ever since! Haley loves to learn new things from the hospital’s doctors and support staff, and her favorite part of the job is getting to meet pet owners and their adorable companions every day.

Haley is currently in college, and majoring in architecture! While working in a veterinary hospital isn't her forever goal, she's learned so many communication skills here that will apply to her future as an architect while meeting with clients. "

Happy Veterinary Receptionist Week, Meghan! Meghan has been part of our team since March 2021- which means she's also been here almost half as long as Knoll Animal Hospital has existed! Meghan is dedicated and detailed; her work is always without error. She is a walking encyclopedia- from fun facts to home repairs, and would make a great team member for trivia! She's got a big heart and takes great pride in helping not only her friends and family, but our clients and coworkers. Thank you for all you do here, Meghan!

Continue on to read her staff bio:
"Meghan has had a love of animals since she was born. At the age of 9 months, her dog Chauncey inspired her to learn how to climb gates so they could be closer together. At a year and a half, she was trying to convince the dog to color with crayons. Meghan’s lifelong passion for animals turned into a genuine interest in veterinary medicine when her sister-in-law brought home a special needs rescue dog who had been previously abused. She worked closely with the dog to get her acclimated to normal life, and the experience made a lasting impression. She knew that she wanted to help all the animals she possibly could! That’s why she decided to join the veterinary profession.

Meghan’s animal-care journey began when she started volunteering with the Almost Home Foundation. It wasn’t long before she started helping animals hands-on at a local grooming salon. Next, Meghan decided to dive headfirst into the world of veterinary care. She started here at Knoll Animal Hospital in March of 2021, and the rest is history. Meghan loves meeting pet parents and their adorable companions every day, and she particularly likes to help get new pet owners started off on the right foot.

Outside of work, Meghan’s interests include gardening, completing home projects, classic cars, collecting Snoopy plushies, spending time with friends, and doting on her own pets. She shares her life with Lucy, a mischievous Black Labrador, as well as four fish: Marco, Ernie, and Dot. She has also adopted Yacko the lizard and Rupert the gecko, and shares a cat named Maple Rose with her cousin."

Happy Veterinary Receptionist Week, Drew! Drew has been part of our team since February 2021- which makes her our longest tenured CSR and the one of the very first CSRs we hired during the crazy days of COVID. Drew is sweet, kind, and has this way of making you feel heard and cared for- client or coworker. Thanks for what you do here, Drew!

Continue on to read her staff bio:
"When she was young, Drew’s grandmother used to take her on tours of the veterinary department in the university where she worked. Those trips made a lasting impression on her. Drew was inspired by the staff there and their obvious passion for animals. She knew that she would like to make a difference in the lives of pets and animal owners herself! That’s why Drew decided to work in the veterinary field.

A native of Elgin, Drew joined the Knoll Animal Hospital team in February of 2021 as a Client Service Representative. She makes it her mission every day to give all visitors to the clinic a top-notch experience, whether they have four legs or just two. Drew’s favorite part of the job is meeting brand-new pet owners, and she loves being a part of a team that is so dedicated to the health and happiness of others.

Outside of work, Drew enjoys practicing yoga, finding something to organize, reading good books, and staying active with her dogs. She has two canine companions. Mali, who has a huge voice and personality, and the nearly 100-pound Blu as well as a cat, Onyx, who likes to think he’s a dog."

We wanted to wish our CSRs a very happy Veterinary Receptionist Week! The front desk is the face and voice of the animal hospital- and we like to think ours are the best around. Veterinary CSRs are so special because their job is to be the voice for YOU, the pet owner- having animals included is just a great bonus.

CSRs get to celebrate your victories with you- like getting a new pet, moving to our neighborhood, hearing how Fear Free worked for you and your pet...but our CSRs also have to have the hard conversations with you- many calls are emotional with the loss of pets, the stress of sick pets, price questions. They take all situations in stride and do their best to squeeze your pet in, rush that medication refill before the weekend, check back and give you an update on your hospitalized pet, and work diligently to get you answers and resolutions when needed...all while dealing with the stress from doctors and technicians.

We, your co-workers and friends, cannot say enough about how much we appreciate you, CSRs! In the stress of a busy day, it's not always clear but we all know- we couldn't do what you do! To our lovely clients, we hope you take a minute this week to say thank you to our amazing team- Drew, Meghan J, Lauren, Haley B, and Donea!

Check back everyday this week to learn a little bit about each of our amazing front desk team members!
