From the Carol Stream Animal Hospital:

Protect Your Pup: Cicada Season Safety Tips!

With cicada season just around the corner, it's essential to be mindful of how these buzzing insects can impact our furry companions. While most dogs will be just fine after snacking on a few cicadas, it's crucial to prevent them from overindulging in these crunchy critters.

Here's what pet owners need to know:

**Potential Risks**: Dogs that gorge on cicadas may struggle to digest their tough exoskeletons, leading to issues like upset stomach, pain, vomiting, and diarrhea. To avoid these serious consequences, it's best to keep a close watch on your pup during cicada season.

**Watch for Signs**: If your dog exhibits any signs of discomfort after ingesting cicadas, such as unusual behavior, vomiting, or diarrhea, contact us immediately for guidance and assistance.

**Outdoor Supervision**: When spending time outdoors with your dog, especially in areas where cicadas are prevalent, ensure they are under close supervision to prevent them from feasting on these buzzing insects.

**Maintain a Clean Environment**: Keep your yard tidy to minimize the presence of cicadas and reduce the temptation for your dog to snack on them.

Remember, your pet's safety is our top priority at Carol Stream Animal Hospital. If you have any concerns or questions about cicada season and your furry friend, don't hesitate to reach out to us. Let's work together to keep our pets safe and healthy this summer!
