SPREADING AWARENESS: This is key. Adult heartworms actually live in the heart and cause heart damage and failure over time. Many people treat their pets for fleas (because we can see them) and not heartworms. Both of these parasites can cause harm to your pet, but heartworms are the silent killer.

We have diagnosed too many pets this year. Remember, even if your pet is mostly indoors, heartworms are spread by mosquitos which can get in the house. Our winters are getting warmer and warmer, and mosquitoes are getting worse and worse. PLEASE keep your pet on heartworm prevention year-round. ❤️

How DOES heartworm disease happen? Hint: mosquitoes are THE key player. http://bit.ly/341dKjw

REMINDER: Keep a close eye on your pets and do not let them eat table scraps on Thanksgiving! The number one reason we see pets after Thanksgiving is for vomiting and diarrhea.

Today is - a day to bring awareness and educate about healthy lifestyles for our beloved pets.

Reaching and maintaining a healthy weight can reduce your pet’s risk of disease and injury and gives them the best chance of a long, healthy, quality life. Your veterinarian can help you determine whether your pet’s weight is healthy and can work with you to develop a weight management plan based on your pet’s individual needs. Summer is a great time for backyard BBQs. Grilling, fruit trays, salads, mixed drinks, and desserts are delicious for us but may not be safe for our furry friends. Foods to be on the lookout for include grapes/raisins, onions/garlic, chocolate, foods containing xylitol, alcohol, corn on the cob, and meat bones. Be on the lookout for hidden dangers during your next get-together to keep your furry friends safe.
