We are now 3 weeks in. So far all of our original ladies are still "alive and chicken!"
They have moved to a new house each weekend and as of today we built this cute coop from Tractor Supply. (note: pretty easy to put together. It does take 2 people mainly for one to hold the nut with a pair of pliers so it doesn't spin when adding the bolt).
Shout out to my brother from another mother, Chuck Simmons, for coming to the rescue. He and my Uncle Wayne and Chuck's kiddo, helped with the finishing touches on these weird little nails I couldn't figure out.
Also shout out to my mama who was the pliers holder and the chick wrangler...she got the chicks all boxed up and into the coops.
What you also see is some newbie chicks. Rog and I decided that it would be fun to have some show chickens for the girls to show off and also some guineas to help with pests, rodents and snakes on the property. Yesterday Dedeaux posted that she had just what we were looking for so we drove out and met her and Lawson Pearson and got us 8 guineas and 8 b.e.a.utiful Golden Seabrights.
All of the teenagers are in the new coop (for now...we have another one to build to "keep 'em separated")...and the guineas are in the rabbit cage (also from Tractor Supply). Links below to each.
They are all now in their new homes outside under mama's shed. Uncle Wayne helped make sure that nothing should be able to dig under. The babies are all nestled in for the night. Here's hoping they are all still "alive and chicken" tomorrow morning.
